Thats the crux of it, Nibsy. If they are good enough they will find a way to force themselves in. If not they go to a club with less realistic ambition, and we buy players to match our ambition.

Posted

Heres a question, how would people feel if the club made a statement along the lines of:-

"we have decided the academy will not be good enough to bring youth players through to the first team, we feel it would take an incredibly exceptional once in a lifetime talent to make our first team. So we now will use it to educate young players to sell, the money going towards buying players for the first team."

Basically admit we are not going to use youth players. Would people accept that?

i think most would understand it, but stating that as our aim would stop young kids from signing with our academy and would then mean we had no academy whatsoever

Again a vast majority of us would accept a couple of years of mediocrity whilst the crown jewels are being built

Where does this expectation come from that these kids are going to become the crown jewels of world football? So after a couple of years of basically giving up good chances to win titles and trophies, we should just expect that the team will magically win everything for the next 10 years? We'd all like to see some of the kids come through, because having Chelsea products making it to the top would feel special, but being willing to accept several seasons of failure for it is insanity. It'd be nothing more than a complete gamble. What happens if one of those kids then gets a bad ACL injury and another just doesn't make the grade we'd expected? Do we then just become the next Arsenal and start competing for the Top 4 trophy every year because the top names no longer want to come to a club that isn't competing for the title?

Isn't it massively entitled to willingly accept being mediocre for a couple of seasons. So few teams have the opportunity to experience the things we have and yet some are saying that they'd forgo that to do what exactly? Put 11 academy kids on the pitch? Bizarre

Posted

Particularly at this time, when we have potentially the best crop of players we've ever had. We really could go on to dominate the PL for the next 5-10 years, and I'm damned if I see anything worth risking that for.

Sadly no team challenging for the title will be able to blood multiple youth team players. The last 5 years have seen United, City and our selves win the league. In terms of youth players that have played a key role in that you have JT and hart... Go back another 5 years and you can include Gary nevil.. So in 10 years three academy player have had an impact on their team winning the league. This is not a Chelsea problem, or a Jose issue

Neville, Neville, Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Butt, etc...

Pretty sure it can be done...

It's been 20 years since they broke through.

But United do seem to be trying with Blackett and Keane having regular roles in the team. And Arsenal have found a gem in Bellerin.

Zeta I used the word impact for a reason. Because we could also include Welbeack but hey they let's include RLC.

I'll give you Scholes and gigs but as has already been posted they came through over 20 years ago, as did nevill.

Is our youth really as good as we thought they were? We haven't seen them against the likes of madrid's youth, or barca youth, or bayern youth, so are we overestimating how good they are in comparison to maybe, poor english youth teams in general ?

The only players I would like to see come through and prove they're the business are RLC, baker and solanke. Bamford isn't a youth academy product, but that doesn't matter as seeing him break into the first team squad alongside the other 3 would be fantastic.

blackett played 6 times I think, most when they had an injury crisis. Which Keane do you mean? If it's Mike then he's only played one league game. Our youth policy sucks, but I don't get why other clubs get theirs praised when they also no longer bring many through. Arsenal for example, this mythical youth team that will take over the world, they currently have one regular first teamer, Gibbs. Wilshire is in and out, the rest were bought or brought in.

At this stage i can see loftus cheek and maybe ake getting some minutes, other than that i'm doubtful of any of the others. It will be good to give them a chance, just not at the expense of results.

We have beaten Barca's U19's. I don't recall us playing Madrid or Bayern but we have beaten teams like Sporting, Ajax and Anderlecht who have beaten them and they are also highly rated.

Is that a seperate team to Bayern B? Because I'd imagine the best youngsters are at B not the youth team.

Well, they keep winning the F.A youth cup and they won the Youth Champions League this season. They must have something good about them.

Don't know the set up of the club Stim, just saw a few games where they didn't look very good at all

Why?

As for our team , they are currently rated the best in Europe, what more can you ask of them?

Neither do I, I don't follow youth football really. My personal POV is that the truly great youngsters don't play for youth teams but play for first teams.

My prediction........ Falcao will be far more successful for us than Torres.

My thinking? Falcao's superior skill set and a greater hunger to be the player he once was.

I don't know what to make of this rumour. Two years ago I would have gone after Falcao wouthout any hesitation but injuries, loss of form and morale, and failing at Manchester United are reasons why I would be reluctant to obtain him but on a loan basis maybe it's not so bad especially if he doesn't reproduce the golden form he was capable of back in 2012/2013 but is it worth a risk?

I'm not against obtaining Falcao on loan at all but i would like the club to survey and consider all other options before deciding to jump the gun on Falcao because of his past reptuation and good partnership he had with Costa at Atletico Madrid a few years back.

Rumour?

I think it's safe to say now, it's a lot more than a rumour.
