Another player I've never heard of. I suppose I should watch more football than just Chelsea matches. But... Can';t be bothered.

Don't blame you, the Serie A has been dire. This is a goal Darmian scored against Juve...

Yohan Cabaye has just made career suicide. He goes from Newcastle to PSG, now is going to Crystal palace. Didn't PSG pay quite a bit for him? Surprised they're letting him go that cheaply.

Probably the only reason he's going there, no-one else would be silly enough to give a near 32-year old striker with a history of injury problems a contract until he's 36.

For £10 million it's a bit of a surprise that no proper clubs are in for Cabaye, including Chelsea.

To be fair I don't think there's much use of him trading PSG's bench for Chelsea's. I think it was the Pardrew factor, London and first team football that sealed it.

Has he played at Selhurst Park before? I think he might be a bit disappointed with what he expects of London when he's walking around Thornton Heath lol

Quite the opposite to career suicide, if anything it will revive it.

PSG was the big club move he craved but he's barely played for them and there's nothing to suggest he'd play much more for any other league contending side in the major European leagues.

He's got the Euro finals coming up at the end of next season so he's moving to be at a team with a manager who clearly rates him and will make him the focus of the team, playing regular football, if he has a strong season he has a chance of being called up for France.

I say good on him for seeking regular playing time rather than stagnating on the bench.

Cabaye must be very fond of working under Pardew! To be honest he has definitely played for Newcastle sides which were worse than the current Palace one.

Presumably he's been convinced that Palace are going places, and he would complete a quite excellent midfield of himself, Jedinak and James McArthur. The signing might convince the likes of Dann and Zaha (i.e. the kind of players whose heads might be turned by a bid from a team like Liverpool) that Palace can match their ambitions and might be good for a run at a European spot in the next couple of seasons. Either way it's good to see him back, a player as good as he was for Newcastle shouldn't really be rotting on the bench.

Marcell Jansen has retired after being released from Hamburg. Apparently he couldn't bring himself to play for another club as he feels it wouldn't be the same as playing for Hamburg:

“I thought about it on holiday. There were a lot of good offers but for me carrying on is not an option. I am fit, can move on a free transfer, could still earn good money but I prefer to renounce the money.

“In the last few years I was very emotionally tied to HSV. I will continue to live in Hamburg and will always love this club. Gladbach, of course, as well. But now some new club? No, I don’t want to lie or deceive some other club or fans when I am no longer fully behind it. I can’t just suddenly kiss another badge now. That wouldn’t be right. I am myself too much of a fan for that.”

He might as well have said "I'm minted now, can't be f**ked to play anymore".

That's what I took it as myself. Probably wont have to buy a pint when he goes to the local bar anymore.

Yeah, the Everton fans will love him.

Another former player in the media has joined in to fling crap at Sterling.

Have to say I agree with Gerrard, What kind of player refuses to sign a new contract and comes out and says he wants to leave after ONLY being offered 100k? Oh wait... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/4653041.stm

Tired of all these former Liverpool players acting like their club were noble and pure whilst Sterling is the devil. Liverpool are the ones who started this sh*tshow by talking about his salary negotiations.  They lack any credibility saying that he's not work 100k a week but is somehow a 50mill player.

I think both the club and play haven't helped them self in thus situation. I really do think Liverpool have come off looking desperate in it all aswell and the way ex players have backed them up has been cringeworthy. Liverpool are typical if a club who went from a lot of success to very little and they still cling on to that.
