Is it too early to be depressed that we won't sign a starter?

We have RLC and Traore. Two amazing prospects. Buy Schneiderlin and Sterling and they may as well go home, because they would never get a chance at Chelsea.

Both those two guys are going to be better than the two you wanted.

Promise.

I'm fine with missing out on Schneiderlin because of RLC. I'm less sure about Sterling though. I think RLC will get a decent chance to make the first 11, but even though I'm as excited about him as you are, are you sure the same applies to Traore? Especially if we buy Pedro?

My worst case scenario is we sign no one of the highest standard and after a couple of bad results, Mourinho reverts to relying on Mikel / Ramires / Pedro instead of these two.

Traore best position is by far as a striker. When he played out wide for Vitesse he didn't perform well, they changed his position to striker and he improved alot. I also don't want to see Remy, Ramires or Falcao playing out wide, waste of their talents.

That's a very bold bet Davey. Traore's done well for Vitesse but that's Mickey Mouse league nowadays, so I'll wait to see how he can cope at EPL. RLC only played in the youth team.

Everyone says we should buy at least a world class player, and yet when you ask them to name one they quickly disappear. If they're truly world class, chances are they're already at Madrid, Barcelona et al and They won't be selling them to us.

Tbh looking around I honestly don't see much to excite me. Even United's so called exciting signings have been meh.

RLC is 18. He's broken into the first team. Jose won't loan him out. Anyone who's seen the youth team'll know he's the jewell in the crown. He plays for England U21s, which is some feat at his age. He definitely has the quality and the physical attributes.

Traore is 19 and excelled at Vitesse, far more than any of our other loanees over there. He's genuine quality. He's got his work permit and Jose won't be loaning him out. That tells us all we need to know.

It's really not that hard to name a few, for midfield, there's Koke, Pogba, Gonalons, Carvalho etc. Some of them would probably be available at a fair price.

I'm getting a bit worried now. Man Utd have hugely improved their midfield, and are likely to be a genuine threat next year, and Arsenal were already starting to look dangerous. I'm hugely excited about RLC and Traore getting game time, but up till now we've largely stood still from last year. City still look meh and the others are too far behind, but Utd and Arsenal are getting a bit too close for my liking.

Midfield is looking alright now but their defence still consists of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Right now Wayne Rooney is the only decent recognised striker in their squad.

There's talk of them signing a central defender and striker too this summer... Maybe even a goalkeeper if De Gea does leave for Madrid but then their team for next season will potentially be made up of 6 maybe even 7 new signings.

That's a massive overhaul and there is no guarantees about how quickly those players will settle and adapt to their new club.

Spending money is the easy bit. Building a team is the hard part.

Have to hand it to United.  They did exactly what chelsea did last season.

Targeted certain positions and got their guys relatively early

For around 70 million pound they revamped their midfield, signed a promising winger, and solved a problem area at right back.

Should they get a striker and an established defender to partner Smalling they will have a great squad.

Their current bench:

Jones

Evans

Valencia

Blind

Fellaini

Young

Mata

Wilson

Probably better than our bench.

Well our bench is currently going to be made up from:

Begovic

Zouma

Luis

Ramires

Mikel

Cuadrado

Remy

Falcao

I don't think they have a better overall bench than us, of those players you've listed only Mata is the standout player, everyone else is more or less equal to each other.

Okay maybe not Cuadrado.

hardly a mickey mouse league and talent is talent no matter what. traore has so much ability and being in a side like chelsea will only enhance that. there is no guarantee sterling will live up to the hype anyway, it's all guesswork at the moment. there are always pacey young wingers who will stand out, but then they never reach their ceiling or their ceiling isn't that high. traore is the same age (or a big younger) than sterling and could reach a higher ceiling depending on how he is developed. RLC is the same, so much talent and ability, with the right tutelage and development, he can become a really solid player.

United have paid £30m for Depay from the Mickey Mouse league.

Compare Depay and Traore's output last season and there isn't a massive amount in it. There's nothing to say the boy can't come into our squad and contend for a place, especially when you consider the current lack of competition for a stating place in the attacking midfield 3.

I think if United can get otamendi from valencia, they will be serious challengers again next season.

City didn't really have any significant weaknesses, I think complacency was there downfall last season, so with Sterling coming in, and a couple of new faces to freshen things up, you would have expect them to be alot closer this year.

Arsenal probably still need another striker, and I think they're challenge will come down to keeping players fit. Cech is a massive boost to them in ability and leadership, and I don't think they'll be far off.

We aren't any better off yet personnel wise than last season, we have young players like Hazard and oscar that will no doubt improve, but we also have terry and Ivanovic who could possibly start to decline. If we are going to win it this season, it's going to be a much closer call as things stand.

I think we need something more going forward, if there is no chance of bale, rues, greizmann, or Isco, then I think pedro would be a good option. Maybe traore will step up, but I think it's a big ask for someone so young in his first year in English football.

I'd also like another defender to come in, but it's a tricky situation, as we don't want to bring someone that will block zouma's path, but at the same time we need someone who is good enough to step in when required. I would love john stones, but with the prices of english players at the moment, I can't see us spending the £30m odd it would take to bring him here.

Nobody questions their talent, they wouldn't be at the club otherwise. But having a talent and being able to perform at the top level aren't the same thing. You said it yourself, they're amazing prospects, prospects being the key word. That transition between a young talent and a starter at a top club is the hardest step and that's why so few manage to make it.

Sterling and Schneiderlin are established players of quality, despite former's age. I'd be very happy, if Traore and RLC manage to reach their level, but you go as far as claim they'll be better and that's a bit of wishful thinking at the moment. It's possible, obviously, but there are no guarantees.

Obviously no guarantees but how will we know if we continually buy players that block their path ?

Edit: I think these two are worth the punt.

Difference being that Depay has had two successful seasons and some great performances for his national team.

If you compare Piazon and Traore outputs there isn't a massive difference either and we all know how that turned out for Piazon. Don't get me wrong, I think Traore is a good player but I don't put him on a pedestal above our other youth like others seem to.

I was more highlighting that you can't write off a player simply because he's been playing in Holland.

I apologize to any of our resident Dutch posters, I meant no disrespect when I questioned the quality of the Eredivisie, but it's clearly a long way from the 90s, when it had amazing world class talents coming through on a regular basis. I watched a few Vitesse games and some league highlights and the level of defending, for example, is quite poor.

Why does everyone think that Taore will be a squad player next year?

Think because Jose used him in pre season and liked the look of him however the work permit issue meant he couldn't be part of our group the past 2 seasons.

Now he has one and has done well in Holland the next step seems to be integrating him with the first team.

The pressure will be on United to win the league this season I think. Purchasing Di Maria, Shaw, Blind, Rojo, Darmian, Scweinsteigar, Schneiderlin and Depay in the last two years is massive investment. I feel Van Gaal will be gone if its a other trophyless season for them.

Far away hills are green...maybe we'e got the best squad and that's why we're not very active at the moment. Our rising stars are now more established and have a PL title under their belt and should be just as formidable this coming season.
