Is it too early to be depressed that we won't sign a starter?

I never understood why so many people talk about stats.

It's a very British thing which quite frankly i think should come completely secondary to watching how a player performs a role and how the team as a whole perform.

In Europe it's not really as important.

Especially the midfielder that scores goals crap that i always hear.

Yes Frank scored loads of goals and we were lucky to have him.

But you know who was arguably the best attacking midfielder of the last decade.

Iniesta.  And we all know that he doesn't score or assist many so i guess he was never good enough for Chelsea.

Willian was fabulous the second half of this season and on that form very few players would get ahead of him.  It's not just about goals and assists...

10.8% of people agree with you.

think about it this way, anyone we do get will most likely be only to strengthen our squad depth. We certainly won't be buying a player to come into our first team because our first 11 are strong enough, so don't expect a top, top talent. i think bertrand traore will surprise a lot of people next season, he is incredibly gifted; what a player!

Im still a little surprised we are not in for Schneiderlin considering he isn't that expensive, homegrown and is a quality player. He for me is every bit as good as Matic. Also considering Mourinho started using Fabregas as a no.10 a lot towards the end of the season, Matic next to Schneiderlin we would barley concede a shot on target let alone a goal.

I agree with this.

Reminds me of Thierry Henry.

Crucially for us, he's left-footed.

So far United have signed:

Depay (unproven outside of the notorious Ervidevise)

Schneiderlin (good but not top tier)

Schweinsteiger (an excellent piece on whom can be read here: http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33494019)

Darmian (another Rojo I bet)

Arsenal did well to get Cech but have done feck all else and the bin dippers are spunking cash on flavour-of-the-month Brazilians and youngsters. As for Citeh they are pinning a lot of hope on a stroppy teenager.

Is this how people want us to be? Or should we realise we have a good team already and look to buy only if there is an actual target worth having? The market is crazy at the moment. I don't see the value in rushing out and buying for the sake of it.

It's nice to not be linked with every player going for once!

We have a great team, it just needs a couple of players to develop from the fringes to be on future starters. Our biggest problem last year was that certain players looked tired at times. If we could get a couple of youth team players to step up to take the pressure off, then the transfer market could go f**k itself!

Liverpool have got Milner, Ings, Firminho and Clyne. Thats pretty f**king good.

Milner is ok but only that. He's a workhorse I guess.

Ings is possibly a new Carol.

Firminho is a gamble.

I have to say I do like Clyne though.

United have strengthened considerably. Particularly if you take a two season view. Depay, schweinsteiger, schneiderlin.

Citeh have Stirling. Views are mixed but for mine he clearly strengthens them. I wish we'd bought him.

Arsenal have done less but obviously strengthened at goalie.

Pedro seems to be another Willian standard player, good but not good enough to make the current barca starting 11. Hope Oscar is fully fit because our thin and risky (costa injury, Terry age) squad will have to be better than last season in my view.

Aside from Ronaldo and arguably Hazard, Bale and Robben, who else in world football would be good enough to start for Barca in that wing position? It's an absurdly high standard to compare players against. Just because someone isn't better than Neymar or Suarez doesn't mean they aren't quality.

Chelsea will not sign Pogba or Griezmann in this window. However, I know that even if we don't sign them that is in no way proof I knew what I was talking about. I have it on good authority Jose is not interested in either player. Whether that's at their current price or whether even if we were offered an exclusive option to buy them we wouldn't because Jose doesn't think they fit in our team, I don't know. That also doesn't mean we won't change our minds but as far as I'm aware as it stands were not interested in either.

Yes, I too read Rob Beasley's twitter.

Manchester united's squad is starting to look formidable.

They have a very good midfield now with a lot of depth.  Schneiderlin is a great buy, prem proven, one of the three best prem. midfielders last year.

A three of him, Schweinsteiger and Herrera is very good and if they continue to improve on their passing game Manu will be strong title contenders.

City will be better with Sterling and i think more motivated to win the title, they know they have underachieved.

I don't think we can afford to stand still.  Hopefully signings will be made because an injury to Matic, Cesc or Hazard could possibly be the difference between champions and coming fourth.

Could be we are looking at just bringing in Traore and RLC as part of the youth movement but this could backfire.

For me, if we were the ones to bring in Schneiderlin and Sterling, no matter the cost, we would be pretty much guaranteed to dominate the next years.  Those are the two signings who would've made a massive difference to this club (as well as Varane).

Now who's out there that's available and that would strengthen us.  There are just not many players out there that would improve us.  We just missed out on two.

Personally I think Sterling's attitude stinks and I'm glad we don't have him. He is disruptive and that is bad for a team who won by working together.

Schneiderlin, maybe but I feel like there is a big step up from Southampton to United or us and there is little proof that he is worth £4m more than Matic.

Milner, decent.

ings....mid level

firminho, gamble.

clyne, decent.

Oops, that's a bit rude of my "liking" a post that says you're going to top yourself!  Don't do it - wait until we're not winning 3-0 to Swansea after 10 minutes.

We have RLC and Traore. Two amazing prospects. Buy Schneiderlin and Sterling and they may as well go home, because they would never get a chance at Chelsea.

Both those two guys are going to be better than the two you wanted.

Promise.
