when he plays, you are almost going to cry   because you are going to realize how much chelsea loses, going forward on that left. To even add to that, his style of attacking and overlapping is just a joy to watch and will compliment hazard who is always looking for an extra outlet on the left when he cuts in. Against NYRB, i love Azpi, but several times, his inability to join the attack fluidly on that left hurt chelsea

This might be a tad controversial but as much as I like ivan, if Baba works out as well as you're saying on the left I wouldn't be wildly opposed to having dave on the right and ivan either taking Cahill's place or on the bench, for all his good last season William was either getting him out of jail or he was costing us goals, and on the left azpi offers nothing on attack, but is so solid teams playing us just commit attacks down our left side for the most part, having an attacking minded left back with hazard would be devastating to our opponents and William wont need to track back as much on the right and may offer more going forward or ideally cuadrado if he can get his act together..

I don't get the logic with overpaying for a sub when we know Jose will never bench Bran, I can see Baba kicking up a fuss in a year's time and we end up loaning him out since no team will match his overinflated transfer fees.

I'm not so sure, I know Branna is only 31 and was good last year but a fullbacks shelf life is not as long as a centre half. He will get isolated a lot more and when age starts to creep up he MAY struggle a touch. He may prove me to be a c**t and play til he's 35 :)

I don't think Mourinho plans him as a sub. I don't think he planned Filipe Luis to be a sub either, its just that Mourinho ended up not being impressed by the purchase. 

 

Chelsea has some 60 games next season, if all goes according to plan. Thats 40 games per player between Ivanovic, Rahman and Azpliceuta. Ivanovic played a total of 49 games last season, he could obviously use some more bench time and Azpi can revert back to RB.

 

And in all honesty Azpi and Baba are both better than Ivanovic.

Really? If Luis satisfied Mourinho than how come he's back at Athletico after just one year and playing less than a 1000 minutes of football...It doesn't make sense. Ivanovic didn't have to play all those games, especially against scrubs.

 

Baba Rahman is arguably the best LB in Germany (albeit Ricardo Rodriguez is also in contention). The guy would be a starting LB in almost any European club after his debut season. 25 mln EUR for a substitute player? I know Chelsea can be ridiculous, but they aren't Man City ridiculous.

Because Ivan and Azpi are his first choice options and it made sense to sell Luis as he was on a big wage and we were getting most of our money back.

Luis was a very good player for us when played, it's just Jose has his first choices and Azpi is one of Europe's best players in that position.

This guy wont be replacing him, he will be taking up a Luis role for sure.

I can't stand that guy. Every so often he will say something is going to happen and when it happens he writes the old "i told you so" tweet. I don't think he knows as much as he says he knows. He may know the odd thing here and there before others but i usually here news on things from somewhere else before he says anything about it.

Deal makes more sense than the Luis one.

Not necessarily a signing for right now but Jose is recruiting some decent players for the future.

Probably but taking His age and Ivan's into account I think most likely scenario is he gets some game time this season and next season or Dave on the right Baba on the left and dare I say stones and Zouma in the middle

Out of contract next summer, I think it's likely we'll offer an extension but 31 isn't exactly a good age for a RB...
