Goals, assists and wins are stats as well. Plenty of useful stats out there as well as unuseful. Im not sure about the Downing bit but if you say so. I personally think he was nowhere near our 2nd best player but if we're judging subjectively then we have to agree to disagree.

There are no useless stats. Only people who have no idea how to use them in their 'analytical endeavours'.

Yes behind Hazard.

There seems to be this obsession with stats in the UK.  On the continent it's nowhere near as important.  We look at what the player does and how he plays within the team.  If we're going by stats probably stewart downing would be a better player than Iniesta.

I don't think it's just a UK thing. One of the best players in the world right now is obsessed with them.

I think the problem mainly stems from cherry picking that stats that suit whatever bold statement they are trying to make.

'Goalscoring chances' is a bit of an iffy stat to be honest. As with assists, it only focuses on the final pass as opposed to the entirety of the buildup, which is why players like Modric, Carrick, Willian (etc.) are often statistically unimpressive, despite it being widely recognised that they are qualitatively excellent.

In 2010/11 (I think) Malouda created the most goalscoring chances in the league, and in addition he had double the number of the next-highest player (I think it was Nasri). In addition, according to this, he created more goalscoring chances in a single game (11) than any other player in the league against Birmingham. We lost 1-0.

Not that I disagree much with your overall point, but to be fair, Modric and Carrick are considered good without these stats because most of their ball possesion is consentrated around midfield. Willian receives his around the box. Very few players with meagre statistical output that plays as high up as he does are considered great players.

I'd give anything for a greedy AMC who looks to shoot rather than for the pass. Everyone in our first team is so busy looking for the pass that we allow their defences to catch up or squander our chances entirely.

So what you're saying is, is that we should sign Hulk?

YAY! 2015 Hulk rumour confirmed.

It wouldn't be a Chelsea transfer window without a Hulk rumour.

Not really a fan of hulk but I do struggle to think of AMC's who regularly score 10-15 a season, arriving late in the box.

I've said pretty much the exact same thing during last season minus that clever malouda example Willian is strong in transition and bringing the ball from deep he starts most of our attacks in that way and is usually involved in a term I don't really like but the secondary assist

So back to Rahman....what is the delay about agreeing price with Augsburg? They paid 1 million for him....they are at least going to increase that by 1500%. Why so greedy?

Because they want to make the most out of one of their best players. They know we're desperate to sign a LB aswell so I'm not surprised we're having our pants pulled down.

Maybe we like having our pants pulled down. Brings back the good old days of the mid-2000s....

Has it been that long mate? I'm sorry to hear that :(

Without paying for it. If we do count those times your mum was round last night. *Bosh*

Playing for Augsburg v Elversberg right now , suggests there isn't a deal anytime soon. It's on Kodi for anyone who wants to watch.

Also suggests he ain't forcing through the move by being difficult.

He wants the move, his agent has confirmed terms have been agreed and all that's left is for the clubs to agree the fee.

Basically, Augsburg have got us by the short and curlies.

Tomorrow the season starts and inexplicably we have only two full-backs, both right-footed.

In fact, we only have five (count them) defenders, and one of them is 20 and hardly has any experience.

Now, imagine tomorrow one of our defenders gets injured, all of a sudden Augsburg are in an even stronger bargaining position, and that's saying something.

They know we want their man, they know all this talk of Rose and Telles is just us trying to be clever, and they know we ain't fooling anyone.

Since Marina Granovskaia started negotiating deals we have done very well but maybe she's taking too much pride in her work, trying to negotiate the best possible deals for Baba and Stones, when really, she needs to start clinching deals.

It's no secret we need a left-back at the very least.

Bite the bullet and pay the money and get him over here would be my advice, sometimes you have to pay over the odds and this is one of those times.

It's been dragging on a little too long for my liking, and I dare say for Jose, after all, he wants to have his troops assembled at this point, he wants to integrate his new man into the squad.

If she's a tough negotiator I'm happy, but if you need something that badly, sometimes it's worth a little bit more.

I think this is the most profound thing I've ever read you say.....there was me thinking you were a pure gags man. Wonders will never cease.

First time I've seen him tbh.Decent going forward defensively though his positioning needs polishing. Very hard to udge off the or match maybe we just don't see his value at what is being quoted. Then again as you rightly stated its a sellers market now. I'm very surprised we let Luis go with no replacement firmly lined up.I'd imagine José is frustrated by the saga.

He is a gags man. For profound posts he's got a speechwriter.

these teams are taking the piss now. we will need to have a plan for someone else because we can't rely soley on azpi at LB, and i am begging to see azpi at RB, but the likelihood of that happening are zero; f**king pains me to see him playing there.
