April 1, 201610 yr You prefer a right back to a left back? He seems less likely to leave since we sacked Jose, a lot the the youth believe they have a better chance now Jose has gone. He has played both positions smart ass
April 25, 201610 yr http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/ola-aina-leaving-chelsea-as-arsenal-liverpool-circle-4126701 Looks set to leave. This is sickening if he leaves due to lack of first team opportunities when Ivanovic was so bad at RB and Baba at LB this season.

April 25, 201610 yr Looks like Mourinho has little to do with the decision. Is it equally sickening if he decides to leave because he simply sees that since JT, no player has graduated into the first team from the academy? I dont think that's the case, why would that in particular have anything to do with it? JT was the last player to break through.. .that means I'll never make it here. I think that's also a bit of a false narrative considering we had an academy graduate start the CL Final and his name wasn't Terry. More likely he doesn't see a path to the first team, he's 19 so he's probably getting ahead of himself anyway, and he wants to leave. I don't blame him. If the guy above me in the pecking order was the worst player on the pitch for a few months and I didn't get so much as a minute of playing from it I'd say f**k this and walk out too. There's still time for Conte to convince him to stay if he fancies him. Or not. Personally this is probably the player I'd be least concerned about leaving if this Sterling kid is as good as some on here are saying.
April 25, 201610 yr I think you're the one playing the false narrative regarding Bertrand. That finals appearance was his only appearance in the CL that season and he made a grand total of 7 league appearances that season. We all love to trot that out to opposition fans but if the strategy wasn't park the bus and the context of key defensive players missing,Bertrand never makes that final. It was the product of, at the time, unfortunate circumstances and not proof of the existence of a path from the academy to a regular first team role. said player earned a spot on last season's PFA team of the year playing for another club while we still splash big cash on that position And it would, in particular, have something to do with it as it shows that never under Roman has an academy product become a regular first team player at this club. That the only CFC academy player to do so under Roman was, as pointed out by another poster, one that we had to buy back from a club for over 20millionn just a short while after selling him for peanuts, relatively. Because it shows that the lack of a path to the first team is a systematic problem for this cluband has been for almost as long as Aina has been living on this green Earth.... and not the actions of one manager, no matter how desperately some would like to portray it as that. I wasnt aware there was a narrative going on about Bertrand, maybe Ive started one!He made 50 appearences for us that season and the next, in my mind that is a fair shake at it. The rest is all speculation on our part isnt it? Im not having a go at you. I think its more likely he sees the players abead of him and a new manager and thinks hes got no path into the squad plus Im sure there a few people in his ear about how he would start some games for other clubs. Rather than oh look JT is the only one in x years to stay in the first team, Ive got no chance. If thats his mentality, good riddance. I understand these young players have won everything they can already and want more (which is awesome) but should we be handing out fat contracts and guarantees to them all at 19 or 20? They could be worked into the squad better, this season was a great chance to do so, and its true we have failed them in every possible way so far. Edited April 26, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues
July 6, 201610 yr Signed a new 4 year contract. Maybe this will stop some people there sh*t until something actually happens.
July 6, 201610 yr seems like a big turn around for him to have signed a new contract, lets see what happens over the summer regarding his first team prospects or shunted on loan
July 7, 201610 yr Loaned out to Vitesse today If we sign another fullback next month, his Chelsea career will be officially over
July 7, 201610 yr I cannot find any official news that he's been loaned out to Vitesse. Edited July 7, 201610 yr by Jezz
July 7, 201610 yr Signs a new 4-year contract and is then loaned out to Vitesse! Never change Chelsea! Where has this been reported?
July 7, 201610 yr Where has this been reported? I took it from Scott's post that he was being loaned out until I checked myself and couldn't find anything to suggest that. As a result, I edited my post.

July 18, 201610 yr Little interview on the official site: http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/07/aina--making-an-impact.html On his performance against Rapid Vienna: "I was very pleased with my performance, I just wanted to have an impact and try and do what the manager asked of me. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though the result didn’t go the team’s way. It was a good experience in a packed stadium. At half-time the manager just said to me and the team that we should press higher, and that everything we do should be press, press, press. It did seem to work as I thought we were edging to get a goal in the second half. It was unfortunate it didn’t go our way." On Conte: "I heard him a lot! It was really good. I would much rather have a manager telling me ‘Ola here, Ola there’, than not hearing anything at all and being left in the dark. It was really good for me and playing on the left is normal for me as well. On that cross/shot which hit the post: "It was definitely a shot! I just tried my luck and it was unfortunate to hit the post." On signing a new contract: "I am delighted to sign a new four-year deal and commit myself to the club for that period of time. I am very happy and I want to keep progressing this season."
July 18, 201610 yr He's looked excellent for years in the youth team. At first team level he looked a level above Baba in terms of composure, strength, distribution, first touch....... just about any quality you look for in a full back. I've really not been impressed by Baba, and I can't think Conte would have been on Saturday.
July 19, 20169 yr It really does say a lot when your youth players are out performing £15m+ signings. Think Ola has shown why we need to start showing faith in our youth and not wasting money on people like Miazga, Baba etc. Edited July 19, 20169 yr by RIP Mourinho
July 20, 20169 yr Author I think he's ready to make his big step in his life. Very talented defender, he can do the job, he will reach more experience and he will become better and better.
July 28, 20169 yr Surprised no one is talking about him.Deserves a starting place ahead of baba and iva.
July 28, 20169 yr Surprised no one is talking about him.Deserves a starting place ahead of baba and iva. Yup, and if we dont plan on starting him, i hope we can find a great team where he can play first division football as a starter. No bench please unless we plan on giving him meaningful minutes.
