August 25, 20169 yr Taking things out of context. There were 3 other lines in that post too and this one was just to make a point. Is there any other player in our squad who spent his whole career in an academy like La masia that I could have pointed out just to show the impact of training, running plays and playing to a particular philosophy. If there is I will retract my words right now. For the sake of argument you do raise a valid point though I agree with FC that your incessant ranting about Pedro/Oscar is becoming a tad tedious. August 25, 20169 yr For the sake of argument you do raise a valid point though I agree with FC that your incessant ranting about Pedro/Oscar is becoming a tad tedious. Fair enough. But is not their inclusion in the team a bit tedious to say the least? Again fair enough and I ll try to keep my rantings and ravings to the match day thread/pubs.
August 25, 20169 yr He's been there about 2 weeks and people are expecting wonders. Judge him at the end of the loan. If i remember correctly he wasn't great at Vitesse until the new year. Give the lad time to settle in and adapt his game. Well, if you start being reasonable....
August 25, 20169 yr He is 20, his game is not a finished product. Its evolving and we should make sure it evolves the way we want it to. WHich will happen when he stays, trains with the team. There is a reason why pedro has looked so poor here but "looked" like a decent footballer in barca. I think FIFA and FM have actually made a myth that young players need loan spells and they come back better. If our loan system is anything to go by, it for sure does not seem that way at all. Young players need to play games. The more games they get the better. You cant simulate match experience in training, you just cant. Training at a big club offers vey little, most of the sessions are either recovery sessions or tactical approaches for the upcomming game, its a little better this year since we dont have have the extra CL game but still. Just training with a top club offers very little as far as development goes
August 25, 20169 yr He'll gain more on loan at Ajax than he would of on the bench with us. This is true but it's still a shame to see him go. My thoughts are do we plan to sign another striker and sell Remy? If that's the case it seems a waste of money and talent to have jettisoned Traore to Ajax for the season. I wonder if we forego a third striker and use RLC as Conte has suggested recently.

Just training with a top club offers very little as far as development goes I have a bit of a different school of thought in this. I totally agree that gametime and pressure actually gives you experience which at a certain point in a player's career can be his most vital asset, I dont necessarily think game time "improves a player". Lets take Oscar for a moment. Or rather mikel since if I talk about Oscar people would think its simply because I dont rate him despite him being the perfect example to the situation. I think oscar/Mikel had a lot of potential when they came here but their development stalled and they never seemed to be working on improving their games. Mikel seemed too comfortable taking the backseat and making those 2 yard passes to Lamps rather than getting out of his comfort zone and making things happen. Some of the performances he has put in for nigeria shows how different a player he could have been. I dont know how this loan spell will affect traore. But I think gametime for a 20 year old is way over-rated. If lukaku had looked at improving his shortcomings like first touch, back to the goal play when he was 20 rather than carrying WBA on his shoulders, I feel he would have been better off. Also, I think it depends a lot on the player in question. I feel traore has a lot to learn and improve in his gameplay. Whereas someone like NAT looks to have a good allround game play and should be gaining experience. Honestly think Nat should be out on loan to a lower PL team playing each game and getting experience.
August 26, 20169 yr Have to agree. A loan to a Championship club would surely have been better? He's way too talented for the Championship. Based on the potential he showed last season, he deserved to get regular chances with us, not to be shipped out again and have to go through an adjustment process again. Based on the potential he showed last season, he deserved to get regular chances with us, not to be shipped out again and have to go through an adjustment process again. Agreed on the Championship. With plenty of premier league teams (Everton, West Ham) searching for strikers, im sure someone would have been willing to give him a chance in the prem. And failing that, being 3rd choice for us isnt so bad with costa's injury record
August 26, 20169 yr He's way too talented for the Championship. Based on the potential he showed last season, he deserved to get regular chances with us, not to be shipped out again and have to go through an adjustment process again. Not many young players are too talented to play in the Championship so I'd have to disagree. I do agree and would rather have seen him stay with us, but his chances would be limited with Costa and now Batshuayi ahead of him. Can't see too many PL clubs relying on a 20 year old unproven player, whereas the Championship would have been ideal - as we are currently seeing with Abraham. Trouble with most youngsters is their inconsistency and I think we've seem that already with Traore - some games just pass him by. If he was getting regular games he would hopefully improve week by week. He may get those games at Ajax, but having been at Vitesse already, going back to Holland just looks a wasted exercise IMO. Don't like writing any young players off as they all develop at different stages but you get the feeling if a player has been our books for a few seasons and gets to 21 and isn't regularly making the first team squad, it would suggest they won't have a future with us.
August 28, 20169 yr Played 90 minutes today, Ajax won 3-0, but he hasn't scored. Seems like he was a winger today.

Do you know how old Kane was when he made his breakthrough with Spurs? Was he like 21?
September 16, 20169 yr Honestly not having the best start of the season for Ajax though... Has not replaced Milik. Hopefully he just needed to hit his stride. The game vs Go Ahead Eagles was arguably his best, won a penalty, had a few great shots from outside the box, had a great little dribble from midfield in the second half and won MOTM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49Rup8R8RSI Edited September 16, 20169 yr by Jon Stakes
September 16, 20169 yr Was a decent finish to be fair, managed to wrong-foot the keeper (although he did have the space to switch to his right foot, which generally makes for a greater chance of scoring).

September 16, 20169 yr That's why he's better on the right side with that left foot of his, he was lucky to squeeze that one in.

September 24, 20169 yr Nothing but pure class of a goal today. Makes it looks easy. Finding his feet at Ajax? The composure reminds me of Thierry Henry. Nonchalant, but deadly. Lets see if he can keep this up. His second MOTM for Ajax. Really hope someone makes a Traore vs Zwolle video, because his dribbling was superb. Nothing flashy, but he made it look just so simple, a turn here, a nudge there. Just so confident. Other player to watch was Ziyech. He could be a handy option for an Oscar replacement. BTW Was moved to right wing at Ajax. Edited September 24, 20169 yr by Jon Stakes
