November 12, 201510 yr I'm proud to announce that after receiving it at 10am Tuesday morning, when I saved it last night around 10pm Wednesday night the game told me I had already sank 24 hours in to the game ! Stuck in the office today but back off from tomorrow until Tuesday so I'll ploug some more hours in over the weekend! Holy sh*t! Only put a couple of hours into it so far. I'm at uni working all day then I have a shift at my part time job this evening! Nothing major on tomorrow so hopefully I'll put a good few hours in tonight. It really is testament to the game's beginning that I'm still thinking about it and excited to get home and play it. Very rare that a game does that for me. Hopefully it stays that way! Very rare that a game does that for me. Hopefully it stays that way! Completely agree mate!! I'm addicted to it! Such a fanboy haha! I'm gonna write my thoughts so far minus spoilers later on when I'm not at my desk!Yeah it is wonderful how it has that draw, I just can't wait to get home and play more, thankfully I had unused holidays this year for a change so thought what better time to take them?!
November 12, 201510 yr Author I've sank nearly 40 hours into the game and my uni exams are in 2 weeks' time. This game is seriously addictive but I'm enjoying it. Might have to stop playing soon though. Damn it.
November 12, 201510 yr I'm on my lunch so I'll post my thoughts so far! At 24 hours I think I've got a decent amount of knowledge haha, disclaimer though I am not a games reviewer or graphics software buff. I won't post spoilers either.. The good: I've waited for this game for years and hyped it up a lot since its release, so far I'm really enjoying it, feels great to be out exploring the wasteland again. As much hassle as Bethesda are getting for the graphics I think they're actually pretty good! I think the sceneary is terrific. I'm playing it on hard (had to take it down from V Hard!) I think it's much more difficult that fallout 3 which IMO is good, the ghouls are no longer whipping boys and can be tough opponents now! I've not done a huge amount of the main story believe it or not so can't comment on that but the side quests are brilliant, creating your settlements in the wasteland is great fun! There's variety in the quests. I love the changing weather, very refreshing compared to fallout 3's constant dimness. As usual they've nailed the soundtrack but they always do with this! The weapon customisation adds a lot to the game as well particularly when it changes the look of the weapon. It's completely open for new people to the series to jump in because of the fact it's all new. The bad: Obviously there are bugs in it, I got stuck in a space and couldn't get out for 5 minutes so had to load my save which was luckily only a few moments before to get out. By trying to make the settlement builds an optional part of the game so not to force it on people they have really messed up what had potential to be a top addition to the game, the buildings don't sit right on the ground if it's slightly uneven it'll float, the stairs don't fit with the floors to go up a flight. The facial expressions aren't great when talking to NPC's which would annoy someone who didn't know what to expect or was big on graphics. The companions can be really irritating, getting you stuck on stairs etc by being too close behind you etc which is frustrating. I've had to be careful what to say so not to ruin it for anyone who might buy it so there's obviously more but that's the general things I think stand out for me.
November 12, 201510 yr User Reviews are the ones who actually paid for it and play it though, I'm always skeptical of critic ones, as firstly there are far fewer, so the average scores won't be as accurate as user ones, and secondly you don't know who is getting paid to review it well. Obviously the user ones aren't much better, but with thousands of review scores, I've got to assume the average rating will work out to roughly correct.
November 12, 201510 yr I didn't pre-order the game...but I kind of want it. I haven't played the older Fallout games (though I have New Vegas sitting in my steam library). I have played Skyrim though, and loved it. The problem is...I don't have a powerful PC...I have a good laptop, but not one I can trust to reliably run a game like Fallout or GTA5. The other problem is, after trying to play Skyrim on the PS3 a couple of years ago, I struggled, and didn't end up playing it until I bought it through steam sales on PC months later. I found playing on the computer so much easier...just using mouse and keyboard, and having quicksave options etc was all just so much better. My fear is, if I get Fallout 4, I'll need to do it on PS4, and I don't exactly excel at console combat. Edited November 12, 201510 yr by Cam
November 12, 201510 yr FWIW you can quicksave Fallout 4 on consoles. (Well, Xbox anyway, I assume it's the same on PS4)

I don't think you need a high-end model to run this. I'm playing this on PC by the way, but I'll frequently switch between playing it on my keyboard/mouse (especially during combat) and gamepad (everything else). Edited November 12, 201510 yr by Zinc
November 12, 201510 yr My laptop is fine...plenty of RAM, it's the graphics card I don't think is good enough to run the brand spanking new games well. I also don't have a cooling system, and am hesitant to run a game that will tax the computer to the max. Not to mention, if I was to get it on PC, it would probably be through steam, and there's the 30GB odd download on a metered internet connection.
November 12, 201510 yr Loving it so far. Started building my fort last night thinking it as a waste of time, spend 10 minutes to pass the quest. 2 hours later and I've remodelled it twice, lovely rooms with furniture, some gun emplacements, light etc. I need to get back to killing things ha ha... User reviews are best ignored, you usually find those that love it don't feel the need to review it, trolls, imbeciles and moaners do. Edited November 12, 201510 yr by dkw

You'll be missing out on all the fun though :) . Loving it so far. User reviews are best ignored, you usually find those that love it don't feel the need to review it, trolls, imbeciles and moaners do. My thoughts exactly. To be honest, apart from a few genuine user reviews I've read, most of them are either from trolls or haters who wants to ensure their favourite game stays top (yes, it sounds stupid) and not get eclipsed by a potential competitor. Some didn't even bother to play that game, while others played it with bias-tinted glasses. Nice try to scare off potential players though.
November 12, 201510 yr Metacritic trolls. You're an idiot if you rely on user reviews to gauge how successful a game is. To be honest, the same can be said when listening to payed reviewers. Reviewers at places like IGN are no different really. The best way to judge a game is to play it yourself. I have never let a review influence my decision when it comes to buying a game or not. If i listened to reviews, i would have missed out on some of my favourite games. Edited November 12, 201510 yr by Scott Harris
November 12, 201510 yr Critic reviews and user reviews both have positives and negatives. Critics have often been accused of being paid to give positive reviews and there's certainly an inherent bias towards big games - they're very reluctant to give a big (COD) game a bad review. However, they generally know what they're talking about with regards to gaming. User reviews can be biased by someone with a grudge or who is a fanboy and the fact that anyone can leave a review means they're not one hundred percent to be trusted. People who have had a negative experience of a game are also more likely to review it than someone who enjoys it. The majority of user reviews are still decent enough though. Both types of reviews shouldn't be discounted, just treated with caution. Going home to play it now yay Edited November 12, 201510 yr by RichardCFC

November 12, 201510 yr Yeah, because the reviewers who give it a 0 for having the smallest of glitches, are credible. As I clearly said - I know the user ones aren't much better than the critic ones, but with critic reviews you have a sample of less than 100 usually. User reviews you have thousands, so with a larger sample size you generally get a more accurate score. There's no need to get so defensive about it.

User reviews you have thousands, so with a larger sample size you generally get a more accurate score. There's no need to get so defensive about it. I find that often with user reviews it'll often either be given the highest score possible or the lowest score possible and it's not a great reflection on overall quality. Personally I read a couple of reviews and not just look at score ratings. With console games I listen to a podcast Kinda Funny Games which is a couple of former IGN editors who left to do their own thing. They talk about all things not just the games themselves but with big release games like Fallout they'll dedicate time talking about it and their experiences playing it. It's a good way to for getting a feel for what's good and bad in games and where they aren't sponsored it's unbiased opinions.
November 12, 201510 yr Just encountered my first glitch. Shot some guy I clearly wasn't supposed to using VATS and it did a slow-mo with his head getting blown off. A second later and he's fine and we're talking about a mission for me! Whoops. Still loving it.

Rubbish, but OK. You're basically favouring quantity over quality. Edited November 13, 201510 yr by JoeyN
November 13, 201510 yr Brother bought me this yesterday. Never played a fallout game and not really into RPG's so have my doubts if I'll play it for longer than a week or so
November 13, 201510 yr Author Just rushed home from school but I have to take my dog to the vet later. If nothing goes wrong, I should be playing the game again in 3 hours' time. Hopefully I can put a good 6-7 hours in tonight before putting it on hold for my revisions. My German Shepherd is tempting me to play it on my PC now... Anyway, I've spent the entire morning (like the days before) planning on which quests and things to do. The last time I've done this was for Witcher 3. Loving it. Brother bought me this yesterday.Never played a fallout game and not really into RPG's so have my doubts if I'll play it for longer than a week or so Have fun playing this. Hopefully it'll be one of the first few RPGs that interests you.
November 13, 201510 yr Had an offer to join the Brotherhood of Steel and an offer to lead the Minutemen. Declined both for now, want to learn more and explore further before committing to a faction.
