January 26, 201610 yr It would be no different to what we have done for the last 10 years except without the sacking and multi-million pound pay off each time. We would just shake hands at the end of the season in question and hand the batten to the next guy.

We would just shake hands at the end of the season in question and hand the batten to the next guy. In theory but not many of those managers were hired on the basis of short term especially when a rebuild is required like next season. The man they choose might not last very long but he has to be seen as someone that will be here with the squad he builds as it wouldn't make sense any other way.
January 26, 201610 yr You're probably right. It was half tongue in cheek and it will never realistically happen as 99% of Managers will also want a long tern contract. I would not be against it in the specific case of Hiddink though if it kept him around. I just can't bring myself to get all excited about the next guy at the moment as I just can't see it ever lasting more than a couple of seasons and then we will be back to square one again.
January 26, 201610 yr Its very easy to get attached to Hiddink, he's a very decent human being, honest, calm and easy going. Edited January 26, 201610 yr by Zola
January 26, 201610 yr I know it's not, but I also like to think in my own head that his real name is 'Guustavo'

If we get the next hire right, hopefully we won't be going back to square one once he leaves. Its a dream, but look at how Barca are run. They don't go back to the start when they change managers. It's more of continuation with a tinge of whatever personal take the new manager has on how/who to play. Let's say we hire Simeone. (as an example) He finds success, continues his brand of football here and in 3 or 4 years goes off to coach a national team, PSG, or whatever. As long as someone steps in to continue that success its not a problem IMO. You don't have to start again, you can build onto what he's left behind, assuming he hasn't left behind an old destitute squad. Realistically if say Drogba or Terry take over in a few years time they won't exactly bring any radically new ideas on how to play to the the club. I would imagine they would be have philosophies similar to Simeone/Jose which is essentially the style we're associated with
January 27, 201610 yr I am strongly against signing Hiddink on a permanent basis. If we fire him in the future, we don't have anyone else to run to.
January 31, 201610 yr Roman should persuade Guus to stay at least one more season. We need him to stay and keep things calm. The suits have been scouring the world for a long term manager and there is no one out there who is either 1.) available or 2.) better than Guus. So logically we must hold onto our Guus ! He certainly won't be coming back again to safe us if we f*ck up with the next appointment !
January 31, 201610 yr Hasn't Guus said he does not want to stay longer term, he wants to retire and smell the roses?
January 31, 201610 yr I don't care what Guus has said before, I want Roman to persuade him to stay for one more season until we find the right man to replace him. We can't afford to rush into f*cking up the next appointment. We need more time to get it right and Guus is doing a good job.
January 31, 201610 yr Hasn't Guus said he does not want to stay longer term, he wants to retire and smell the roses? You could argue that there's no such thing as long term with Chelsea ;)
January 31, 201610 yr You could argue that there's no such thing as long term with Chelsea ;) Note I said longER as opposed to long...
January 31, 201610 yr I like Guus want him to stay but wouldn't it just be nice to let a manager go without being sacked for once
January 31, 201610 yr Hiddink really has been a like a breath of fresh air. As it was touched on in the match thread and as Mikel hinted at in the interview on the TV, the whole place just seems a lot happier. We look to be enjoying our football again and we're getting results on the pitch. Happy Times are here Again - thanks Guus!!
January 31, 201610 yr Since he came back I've advocated giving him next season, and grooming (not in the bad way) the next manager! The club needs to build an identity as things stand our only identity is that we've got a rich owner!
January 31, 201610 yr I am strongly against signing Hiddink on a permanent basis. If we fire him in the future, we don't have anyone else to run to. Good point, but I'd love him to stay.
January 31, 201610 yr To be honest if he wanted JT to stay and the board didn't then I don't think Hiddink really is a choice. Even if he wasn't really one in the first place and I just wanted to believe it.
February 1, 201610 yr I am strongly against signing Hiddink on a permanent basis. If we fire him in the future, we don't have anyone else to run to. This is a REALLY good point that I hadn't thought of. I feel that Chelsea needs to take a risk with the next manager the way Barcelona took a risk with Pep Guardiola. As with any risk, the potential gain is greater, but so is the potential loss. Having Guus Hiddink on "standby" allows Chelsea the security of being able to take a risk. If the risk turns out badly and they're one point above relegation in December again, they'll know that Guus can come in and salvage a mid-table finish and hopefully a cup run. In other words, hiring a risky manager won't be so risky.
February 2, 201610 yr I want Guus to stay for a long term contract contract of at least 1 more year ! Because we need stability and calmness. 1 year as manager of Chelsea is a long time to survive, Lol joking aside its reality !
February 2, 201610 yr I'd keep him in a heartbeat, beg Mrs Hiddink if we have to. Send Blueblur to her - he's charming to older women so I hear!
February 2, 201610 yr I am strongly against signing Hiddink on a permanent basis. If we fire him in the future, we don't have anyone else to run to. There's no way we can keep getting gus to come in and steady the ship. He's either going to stay on or retire.
February 2, 201610 yr We could easily give him a one year extension if we can't find a suitable man to take over. I wouldn't mind at all if he stayed.
