January 24, 201610 yr Results under Guus in both spells as a manager: W19, D9, L1. I know our 08/09 squad was a completely different animal compared to what we have today, but you can't deny we're hard to beat under him in any format. Also whilst WBA and Everton at home were disappointing results, we are unbeaten in 7 in all comps since he took over again. Costa and Fab have noticeably improved in recent weeks as well. Got to give him a bit of credit for steadying the ship, although there's a long way to go
January 24, 201610 yr Guus is a safe pair of hands and very thoughtful and calm with no big ego unlike the other big time Charlies being put forward. Stick with Guus - give him a 2 year permanent deal at the end of this season and we will can bring in Drogba to assist. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know - let's have a couple of years of calm management ......all we need is for Guus to bring in some of our home grown top youth players mixed in with some astute new transfers in.
January 24, 201610 yr I still would prefer a much younger manager with lots of energy and ready to take on the world. Simeone or even Pochettino would fit that.

Guus has said many times he is not staying. At 69, he doesn't want to be a full time club coach.
January 25, 201610 yr It different saying that when you haven't been offered the job to when you actually have received that offer from the club. With the way things are going I do hope we at least offer him the position If he still doesn't want it he can of coarse turn us down but I like us to give him the decision. I like the idea of a younger coach and if he was a young British coach all the better. Of course the fantasy stuff would be Lamps or JT and it would be great if Hiddink stayed on and guided one of them for a season or two until they fully took over the reigns (although that's not working out very well for Giggs under LVG). But that's probably unlikely and probably doing a dis-service to the likes of Holland and some of our other coaching staff who perhaps deserve to be considered ahead of the bigger names / "fans favourites".

So basically what you're saying is: Eddie Newton should be the new Chelsea manager. Personally I'm on board with this.

January 26, 201610 yr Yea we sacked the club legend who managed us to a CL title. Well then say that. Bad enough without adding to it.
January 26, 201610 yr Well I think we're gonna have to accept that no one lasts forever, especially Chelsea managers. We may as well just enjoy the brief ride whenever we manage to snag someone good. As well as the obvious successes in Europe and the FA Cup, I seem to remember us playing some great football at the beginning of Robbie's second season, and we'd just signed Oscar and Hazard!

What was the saying back then? 3 Amigos or Hazmatcar or something to that effect
January 26, 201610 yr Before his return, apparently Guus had the best win % as a BPL manager (having managed more than 10 league games),,,EVER with something like 85%,
January 26, 201610 yr What was the saying back then? 3 Amigos or Hazmatcar or something to that effect Mazacar!!!
January 26, 201610 yr The club, probably with some advice from Guus, appear to be clearing the decks ready for a summer overhaul. If Remy goes as well as Ramires and Didgeridoo with Falcao surely not staying on either then it's a good platform to rebuild.
January 26, 201610 yr we bring back ake, christensen, promote musonda to first team squad and buy a couple more experienced players for midfield and defence, i think we'll have a good base to start the rebuild. we can TRY sell salah and the other fellow cuadrado for a good prices, sell a couple others and make a nice profit from those sales, then we can think about replacing them better players. it is all dependent where we end up in the league of course.
January 26, 201610 yr I have said from his appointment that if it goes well we should do everything we can to keep him. Give him a 1 year contract- sounds like it could suit both parties if he doesn't have aspirations to be in it for the long haul. I would love nothing more than to embrace the idea of a new, young manager etc.... but we have been there before... we have tried every type of Manager in the book and the result is always the same. We sack them. Rightly or wrongly, we do not give any manager time to ride out an ugly season, or even patch of form. I have never wanted a Manager to stay for the long haul like I did Jose Mourinho and I really thought he was the right man to build a dynasty at the club and I thought everyone, him and the board, had learned something over the last 10 years that would make it work this time. I truly believe Abramovich thought that and wanted it too. We all know how it ended. I just can't see us ever having a Manager for more than a few seasons at best, so I am of the opinion if Goose is a success this season then we should give him a rolling one year contract for as long as both parties are happy. January 26, 201610 yr Problem with that is how do we build a side with a manager who will be looking to leave in 12 months time? What happens when he leaves and the new manager has other ideas. I don't think we can go down a rolling contract route, if Guus is to be kept on then it shouldn't be a short term thing
