Guus Hiddink - New (old) Chelsea-manager

Featured Replies

Let's give Guus a bit of time to evaluate the whole squad...not sure what he could do tonight without any fit strikers...I'm no fan of the false 9 either but not sure what else he could do

I agree, he needs time to evaluate the current situation and players. This is the way of good management skills when taking over any new project. Admittedly we are in a dreadful situation and need to climb the league right away but I am sure Gus will identify problems and make changes as required in a controlled and sensible way rather then making a large number of changes all at the same time which could result in even more chaos and confusion among the team

We can't expect Guus to throw 5 or 6 youth players in and get us up the table. One or two would be nice tho

Delighted the win would give him the platform to get the players to buy into his ideas along with his excellent man management, he can breed confidence/competitiveness into the players . Hopefully we get the much needed results in the coming weeks.

Days at the end of this article no matter what happens between now and the end of the season he stops. So we can probably rule him out being here any longer than that.

It's a shame because i wouldn't mind him staying on if he does a good job.

Fair play to Hiddink - he is slowly but surely turning things around. Still early days but the signs are good,

Must admit I was disappointed when I saw the starting 11 today but in hindsight think he played it spot on. Only difference I would have made would have brought Traore on 10 minutes earlier. I thought RLC might come on for Ramires rather than Oscar but I guess Oscar will start he WBA game midweek so it made sense the take him off.

I wouldn't give him credit in such a hasty manner, not yet.. for all I can see, we turned things around in a straightforward manner right after jose was sacked and I didn't see major improvement from that sunderland game so I would like to preserve the praise for a little while longer..

He's an experienced manager, his quality should come in handy later on in the big games, even though I was disappointed with the tactic against MU but I would give him the benefit of the doubt, for now...

With regards to Oscar, he seemingly has an injured toe, so he was brought off.  However, Guus did say that he'd still have used his 3 subs on the kids, which is a great thing to hear too.

I'm also very much enjoying HIddink's demeanor in the press conferences; far less combative, honest, and non-adversarial

"We have some youngsters and I am getting to know them better day by day. I now have a good impression of all the guys, and Kenedy is one who will stay until the end of the season because we might need him and we might give him more experience. He came on in the last game and he did well."

Dreams come true

Hiddink went on to add:

"Traore? He can f**k right off"

So Hiddink's record in the league since coming in to replace Jose.

P4 W1 D3 L0

Both home matches we've drawn despite scoring first.

Our win was against a Palace side missing all their best attacking players.

Is this really an improvement from Mourinho?

We're unbeaten since Mourinho left, so yes.

We got 4 points from Jose's last 4 games.

6 points from Guus's first four.

You'll excuse me if I keep the champagne on ice on for now...

Under Jose our players would have bottled it even worse and lost a couple of the matches we've drawn so yes, it is an improvement.

Improvement enough to justify sacking our most successful manager ever off the back of league and cup winning campaign?

Not for me.

We have improved despite the draws, today was the ref, against Watford we missed the crucial pen, United a smash and grab from the Matic chance was possible.

Under Jose a lot of games we lost/drew I just sat back in defeat, there was no arguing the result.

Also Guus is making a lot more effective and logical subs unlike Jose's ones which to be honest I mostly didn't understand the point of.

Today Matic for Cesc though didn't work, it should've been for Oscar.

You'll excuse me if I keep the champagne on ice on for now...

You'll do as you like, but if you ask a question you might not always like the answer. Even if the improvement hasn't been all that big when it comes to points, but in general we've looked better since Guus has come along.

Not for me.

That's a different question altogether and I would agree with you on that.

Jose's previous success is irrelevant when you have a season as bad as we've had with no improvements in any way on pitch from week to week. If we were 4th to midtable then yeah should have stuck with him but we weren't, we were/are in a genuine relegation fight. The club had no choice.

Hiddink has done well in the time he's had I just hope he can improve on the utterly turgid, slow, lethargic football we're playing before he leaves.

But the point I'm making is, off the back of such a successful season we've sign a minor improvement in results and performances but once again we're looking at a situation where we've got an interim manager.

Come the summer we're again scratching around looking for a manager to start all over again.

I'm not seeing seeing justification enough for parting with Jose when come the end of this season we're likely to finish off no better than we would have if we'd stuck it out with Mourinho.

Not for me.

It's not like we were slipping out of the top four when he got the sack. It seemed like a real possibility that we could be relegated this season, so as much I hated to see it happen, I think it had to be done.

And to be fair, I think Guus deserves a few more matches before we make any judgement on his time here this season.
