Guus Hiddink - New (old) Chelsea-manager

Featured Replies

Yeah I do. With finishing top 4 pretty unlikely, the only way we can get CL next year is to win it. I don't think the board have said "you MUST win the CL" rather its a "do what you can in the league but focus on winning the CL".

For what it's worth, I don't think we'll even make it to the CL final.

Hope that eams playing time for Traore and RLC, more first team appearances for Rahman and Remy, Mikel becoming more of a regular... and just the one chance for Djilobodji.

That is a lot - Kennedy, Traore, RLC, Baba - that is already 4 young players fresh to the league in a time when the club is at the lowest point. I expect more run ins for Remy but i do not anticipate a whole new youth set up to be coming through this season. Expect to see more of the old faces - maybe more motivated.

The squad is small enough to warrant the use of those four above - especially with busy period coming up.

Baba is actually the only natural left back in the side.

Loftus Cheek is versatile enough to play three positions and is more reliable on the ball than Ramires as a box-box player. He offers height and strength as well for the more physical games.

Hazard, Pedro and Willian are the only three widemen in the squad and Hazard has been pretty awful all season - which gives Kennedy and Traore reason to be used. Add to to that the Falcao and Costa situation, Traore has even more of a reason to get minutes.

We're winning the CL. Best bet to qualify for next season and it will probably push a direct rival out.

His record in his first spell was very impressive. 22 games, 16 wins, 5 draws and 1 loss

Got a lot of respect for Hiddink, he's become a bit of a cult hero for us IMO. This is the 2nd time he comes in after we've fallen apart. Hopefully this spell will be as good as the first

Hiddink: "I had big plans. In the winter we escape from Europe. This time was Asia, somewhere in India. I had to cancel it"

Hiddink: "At home they were... how do you say it in England? P***** off. Yes. But the second reaction, almost in the same second,..."

Hiddink: "...was to say that you like your job so much and you still have the desire and passion to do it. She could see it in my eyes"

Hiddink: "So she’s going without me. Maybe it’s too late, but I might ask Chelsea to pay for it."

Last time he was here, the players bought Hiddink an engraved Rolex watch as a going away present after the 2009 FA Cup win.

Hiddink: "It has a very prominent place in my house in Amsterdam. I'd like another one now."

I'd like to see Guus here for 18 months, managing & bringing through Didier & JT as our next management team.

Let's face it, we're not in Europe next season, making it tough to attract a top level manager.

Let's build for the future

I do like that notion but is it realistic?

Firstly, and most importantly, will Roman accept such failure? The up coming transfer window could be interesting.

Second that is a big risk by Roman. He saw the reaction to bringing in Rafa, then sacking Jose. If Didier and JT fail and get sacked, what will that reaction be like?

Also will Guus build for the future? He pretty much played who Jose played today, dropping the one young player we have used often for a veteran.

He's got to give the senior players a chance to prove themselves, like he said. A clean slate, or else he loses respect, integrity, etc. If he sees a lack of desire or good reason to drop players, I'm confident he'll do just that.

Hopefully you are right. In which case he starts with Matic after today.

Matic.. the least explainable form/quality drop in the history of the game.

We were much better today

If Didier or JT get sacked it will be presumably because they're out of their depth, which fans will more willingly accept as a reason for getting sacked. I think most of our fans see the Jose ordeal being down to Jose vs. Players.

At least it only took him 45 minutes to work out Fabregas is sh*t

Hopefully, it will take just 90 more to realise that playing more or less the exact same team that got Jose the sack won't work either.

Surely 2 consecutive top paid Managers can work this one out ... surely ???

Football ain't rocket science ...

steve holland should be getting majority of the criticism tbh. he has been here ages and was jose's sidekick for almost 3 seasons, he should be helping guss out. give hiddink some time, he's hardly stepped foot back in the club.

Why did we bring him if he does actually the same?

Because the management is convinced that there is a "Palpable Discord" between the manager and players and only that needs to be blamed for our table position. When they realized that our squad has regressed and that we did not get reinforcements then they will get it right.

In all honesty, I too was off the opinion that our squad is good enough and that we will battle for the trophies, But so far it is crystal clear that a lot of players are beyond their sell by date and our youngsters are not trusted enough to start.
