Guus Hiddink - New (old) Chelsea-manager

Featured Replies

Lots of talk about top 4 but i think most people will admit it's gone. It's probbarly going to be Leicester and United that get the final two places.

United are on abit of a free fall but I don't expect it to last too long. I think we've got too much ground to make up.

Last time gus came in it was at the end of Feb, he had 13 games, one loss and one draw, so dropped 4 points and picked up 33, not bad. But quite a few where 1-0 wins so the crazy irrational match threads will still be a go .. Phew

Well sacking a manager cleans the air and my word did we need that. It really doesn't matter who is our coach end this season. Guus has enough authority to keep things in balance. We will be an opponent teams don't want to face.

We'd have to make up 11 points on Spurs and United. I think Southampton were 4th last Christmas but they eventually dropped off.

Anyone think Leicester won't make top 4?

Does anyone recall what his preferred tactics and lineup was last time around. Did he make any signings?

He played 433 with either Mikel or Ballack at the base of the 3 in midfield, he seldom played them together, unless forced to by injury. He obviously deemed (correctly) that having both in the side made us too immobile.

He also got Malouda playing, that's the thing I remember most. Malouda was awful prior to Hiddink's arrival but he was excellent for Hiddink and carried on that form the following season under Carlo, before he returned to being sh*t again in Carlo's second season.

We have to remember Hiddink had Cech, Terry, Ivanovic, Cole, Carvalho as his back four. He had Ballack, Essien and Lampard as his midfield, he had Drogba up top. These players were all in their prime. A lot of strength, a lot of character and a lot of quality. He's got his work cut out this time. We are a very lightweight side. Our defence, midfield and our striker are nowhere near the quality of yore, though if he can get Hazard and Oscar playing, as he did with Malouda, then we have a chance, because they are seriously talented footballers, especially Hazard.

Very happy he's back. He brings harmony, not just with the owner but with the fans, which is very important. At 69 he'll be realistic about his long-term prospects, so he'll understand if we pursue other targets, and of course he's familiar with the place.

The club have got his appointment right just as they got the sacking right. I'm only amazed they left it so long.

I do hope Leicester strengthen their squad through signings or loans. Need the depth for that title push!

The last thing claudio needs is options, vardy will end up at left back
