Goodbye to our worst season (of the Abramovich era)

Featured Replies

This may seem spoilt or I may just not be of the right age to have seen worst (or remember worse) but this has without doubt been the worst season supporting Chelsea that I've seen. I know when I started supporting Chelsea around 1994 we finished a lot worse in the table (but I was very young then) but I've never see such dross from a Chelsea side. The only standout things for me we're doing the double over Arsenal (even though they had players sent off in those games and failed to dominate them) and of course beating Spurs. Other than that there's been nothing to get excited about, poor form, a manager (Jose) who quite frankly (IMO) had become poisoness both verbally and with his actions, Eva gate, Ivanovic been a shadow of his former self, poor defending, a returning Guus Hiddink having very little effect in the side and possibly losing our Captain John Terry whose only been offered a contract at the eleventh hour etc.

Looking to next season, it's both exciting and nervy to think about. Hazard if he can bring back his 14/15 form, youth players, potential new signings and Conte are all exciting to think about. But reversing those negatively makes it nervy, as does the fact we may have a first season in many without our influential Captain.

I'm sure I've missed stuff but what's everyone else's feelings (I'm sure they'll be similar to mine) and what are you looking forward to next season?

This is our first worst season and the last one as well. I think it's legit that a top club will have a bad season, we already could see that because a lack of transfer actions this season and lack of motivation of players. But we should not focus on that now, we have to work harder to fix this and get ready for the next season. Conte probably already made plans and he's coming to build a new team, that's what we need. Let the players play in the Euro, clean their heads and get them fresh for the next season because I feel that next season we're going to smash the league.

It could have been worse. We weren't relegated. Just one significant injury. None of our lads died on the pitch.

Granted it could have been better, or less of a soap opera, but in the scheme of life... This season was Leicester's.

Next season here we come.

We have not seen as much youth as we would have wanted, however, given their limited time who do you think has shown the most promise? RLC ? Tammy? Traore ?

On limited viewing I think Bertie has something special.

Traore has the most promise for me. No qualms if he's with us next year, his goal v Stoke demonstrates he has quality, and his first half performance v Liverpool (and a similar performance earlier in the season, I forget who it was against) convinced me he can only improve as a false nine.

Like Zeta i'm starting to feel RLC isn't even PL quality, let alone the quality we need to help us be competitive next year. I wouldn't mind if he stays next year, but used sparingly as a squad filler and only given minutes under specific tactical conditions. I'll be happy to change my view if he demonstrates he has quality.

Tammy I want to say i'm optimistic about, but can't help but have doubts - it's too soon to say though and he deserves the benefit of the doubt. I think he should go out on loan next year and play week in week in out.

Tomori again too soon to say but seems to have something that implies he may have what it takes.

I must say that talking of Tammy, That is a tall lad, If he works on adding some muscle mass while not losing out on his speed, then we may have a good striker in our hands. Truth be told he needs loan deals in premier league like Lukaku got.

Worst season since i became a Chelsea fan. I would love to just forget it and move on to be honest.

Hopefully next season is an improvement but i'm not banking on it. I have no idea what Conte will do, he won't have much time to get things sorted because of the Euro's and we still have people in charge who make crazy decisions. It's not only on the pitch where we have problems.

I'm getting the impression that the majority on here are assuming or highly confident that as rapidly as we went from 1st to 10th, we're going back to 1st. Obviously that'd be great, but I just can't see it. I think we've got a massive job to sort this mess of a season out. And we've got a new manager coming in possibly quite late following the Euros and he's then got to find his feet back in club management and in an increasingly competitive Premier League. Our spending power is apparently less than it was a few years back and we're without the attraction of any European football.

I think a fight for 4th will be a major achievement for us next season and I'll be pretty happy if it goes well enough that Conte manages to still be in charge on the final day.

I also hope this Terry mess is sorted out fast as I think after this seasons Eva sh*t, we could do without off field issues casting a black cloud over our start to next season. I do fear that the opening home game could be notable for Terry based animosity towards the club.

Hopefully in the next two or three months some stuff will happen to lift my spirits because they need some lifting.

To be honest, i would be fine if we did an Arsenal last season and just got back to being a top 4 club. Winning a cup would be fantastic too but we want to get back up there with the top sides as soon as possible and we need Champions League football to do that.

:laugh2:

Scenes on Chelsea TV as dialogue not for broadcast heard as they speak over presentation. "We done?" "Polished a turd as long as we can."

I think Top Four is a must next sesson but we should definitely aim higher IMO, given we have no Europe I think Top Four is the least we should aim for. I'd take Top Four as a good season mind, anything else would be a bonus. Top Four and a trophy would be wonderful.

I don't expect us to do it. I don't expect us to not do it either. The league is becoming less predictable (a good thing in my opinion).

I'll be very satisfied with Europa qualification. The most important thing is to stop the slide. Once a slide gains momentum, it's hard to stop. Think of Aston Villa, Fulham, Bolton, etc.

I don't think Conte is coming here to finish 4th ... going to be an interesting ride, and it is encouraging what the likes of Carlo say about him for sure.

Which is why I said we should aim higher, but if lowest we finish is 4th I'd say it will have been a good season

Well.

This season wasn't exactly ideal, but it reminded me that I support Chelsea no matter what. I just couldn't suppress the occasional curse when some of our players didn't show the commitment and the drive I expect of our players.

So now we will get our usual summer bickering over totally nothing, pining for next season. Come on you Blues!

No we f**king won't !

If we rectify our transfer team and hit our targets early, not Pedros but maybe a Griezmann, we would have a chance to arrest the slump and maybe make top 4. Brain dead last minute Papy deals or fairy tail Pogba offers is not going to cut it. If that's the case again, we will be hovering around where we are now. Conte is a good coach but not a magician. Just like Jose wasn't. Don't know what to think to be honest.
