May 16, 201610 yr Worst. Season. Ever. '81-'82 finished 12th in the second division that was not a great season.
May 16, 201610 yr Next season we should aim for top 4. The margins are so so small in the league. When you take away our outstanding player in Eden(form wise) , see a drop in many of our best players' form combined with early exit from title race you see us finishing 10th. We are not that far from the top!
May 16, 201610 yr Good riddance. Worst season since the Hoddle days but back then we had Paul Furlong up front and Andy Myers at the back.
May 16, 201610 yr It could help us in the long run, maybe it will give the club and fans the collective shake we need. > Too complacent with not adding quality to the squad > Players too complacent and/or moody > Fans too complacent
May 16, 201610 yr From 87 points to 50 points is a disaster, no more no less. We we're also hugely unsuccessful in every cup we entered. One of the worst declines this league has seen not least with the squad we have. Whoever says they feel this is the worst season it is. Even historically which is irrelevant anyway. We are not a club that aspires to stay in the league we aim to win it every season. I don't expect us to win it next season but to challenge for till the very end.
May 16, 201610 yr We got to the knock out stages of the champions league, we went unbeaten in the calendar year until, (god knows why the most disappointing part of this season) we threw the towel in. We stopped Tottenham's title aspirations and they went on to finish 3rd hilarious ! We had a good cup run (albeit a disappointing end) All in in we have had a lot, lot worse seasons; and in Roman's era I would say being managed by FSW was worse. Yes he won a trophy but it felt like the club was going no where trying desperately to get Torres form back.
May 16, 201610 yr Winning a European trophy was miles, MILES better than what we got this season regardless who was manager IMO Edited May 16, 201610 yr by Chelsbear
May 16, 201610 yr Leicester finished 13th or something got a new manager and won the league. We can do the exact same thing

We finished in the top 4 and won the Europa League which I'm sure you celebrated.
May 16, 201610 yr Ah- ha ....so it is all about trophies after all ? now we are getting somewhere....... It is not dissimilar to the modern players saying it is not about the money. Take away the money you will soon see how much they love the club.
May 16, 201610 yr As someone who supported the club through the seventies and eighties I can't rank this as one of our worst seasons. Looking forward... Conte turned Juventus around very quickly - albeit he was experienced in the Italian league and is new to the EPL. This season we had too many players who didn't start playing until Christmas hopefully that lesson has been learned by all parties. We have an amazingly successful academy set-up, let's just hope that some of the get the chance to shine. My main concern for next season is our defence, we seem to lack any strength in depth there. Can Ivan return to form with a proper pre-season? What will happen with JT? Will Zouma return as the player he was before the injury?
May 16, 201610 yr Definitely the worst season we've experienced in the Abramovich era without question and probably the worst we've seen since the late 80s and early 90s in my time of supporting them. I don't know what to expect next season but if Conte can get us back into the top 4 within one season I will be thrilled. A rebuild is required in all facets of the club and I hope this season is the wake up call we desperately need. I'm still very sad and bitter that Jose was sacked and while it's hard to let go at certain times, I along with others who were very fond of him need to move on and see this as a new era dawning for the club rather than us entering a dark period. I hope we're entering a new golden era rather than regressing and stagnating but time will tell how that transpires. Looking forward to seeing what Antonio Conte can produce with the right backing and patience from everyone in the club. Edited May 16, 201610 yr by Jezz

Take away the money you will soon see how much they love the club. Not really no. We finished with CL football which is more than we have done this season regardless of winning the Europa. We were also not defending champions that season so the failure of challenging wasn’t as hard to take as it was this year given we romped the league a mere 12 months ago. Regardless any season where you win a trophy, finish in a CL place is always going to trump being 10th, knocked out every cup you enter and spend most of the season trying to fend of relegation. So no it’s not all about trophies but in the grand scheme of things it’s pretty obvious this season is the worst under Roman, it’s there in black and white.

Take away the money you will soon see how much they love the club. Football is about winning things, who said its all about trophies though? Many of us have simply said an improved season would be better but aiming for trophies is what we should always do otherwise what's the point competing if you don't think you can win?
May 16, 201610 yr 93/94, we finished 14th, we went on a late flourish and little Mark Stein found his shooting boots, otherwise we could have gone down. I believe this season is our lowest finish since then, with much bigger expectations too, one too forget, looking forward to see what Conte can do and hopefully we see some fresh faces. May 16, 201610 yr That was the season I started supporting us, first game I saw on TV was when we beat Spurs with that late Stein penalty. That was a classic game, I love re-watching that, great first game to watch.
May 16, 201610 yr Compare this season to those bad ones in the 70's and 80's and you could argue that this worse. Yes we are top flight, top half of the table (just), but then look at the resources available, the supposed world class talent, a wealthy generous owner, massive under achievement this year. Those teams in the 70's and 80's were exactly who they were meant to be.
May 16, 201610 yr Author That was a classic game, I love re-watching that, great first game to watch. It's the game that started me as a CFC fan, only thing is I can't remember if I watched the whole game it just highlights it was so many years ago.
May 16, 201610 yr I just hope we learned from this season. I don't want to see players like Costa, Hazard and others completley unfit for preseason and spend several months into the season to improve their fitness. We can't stop trying to improve our team each season either, wich I felt we did last summer. Edited May 16, 201610 yr by comtrend
May 16, 201610 yr Author Spot on comtrend, Charlie Skillen's been saying for ages that it's our pre season prep that's been the biggest factor in our season's woes.
May 16, 201610 yr Worst. Season. Ever. Not even in my personal top, or bottom, 10, not by a long stretch.
May 16, 201610 yr Leicester finished 13th or something got a new manager and won the league. We can do the exact same thing Except we'll be competing with pep and (maybe) mourinho. I doubt the top teams will be as incompetent as they've been this season, including us. It will be tough next season but i am confident.
