The lame pundit that is Phil Neville just said he's bored of the pl and standard is low...you just know he wouldn't be saying that if Utd were top of the league..,he's also timed this lazy rant to coincide with lack of champions league challenge from pl...I think the pl hype is ott, but Neville is just trying to be controversial/cutting edge by slagging it off

That is what English Pundits do these days - I remember when Portugal won the Euros & mcmanaman didn't want to give any praise to Portugal - instead he took the opportunity to rant on how poor the competition was - TBH I hate that sort of commentary - I understand you didn't want Portugal to win it but don't be a blatant hater on World Wide TV - IMHO that is very unbecoming & shows a lack of class

When he said that he turns games off because he is so bored, i said to myself "why the f**k are you hired as a pundit then".

If he isn't watching the games, how can he sit there and be critical or praise players performances ?

I do agree with him that the Premier League teams aren't good enough to compete with top teams around Europe, but i don't agree with his reasons, there are some world class players playing in the Premier League right now. Here's my reason why i think we aren't competing as much as we were a few years back.

You look at us and United when English clubs were doing well in the Champions League a few years back, look at the world class players we had. In Chelsea there was, Cech, Cole, Terry, Carvalho, Essien, Ballack, Makelele, Lampard, Drogba. In United there was, Van Der Say, Vidic, Evra, Ferdinand, Scholes, Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez. The amount of world class players in each side was huge, we don't have that anymore in the top 2 sides. If those players were around today, it's likely they would have been more spread out over the top 6 teams. Today, the top 6 teams in the Premier League can all afford £40 million players, you wouldn't have seen that a few years ago. So maybe, because the money in the Premier League is shared out so much, it's actually weakened  English teams in Europe. Would you see the likes of Hazard, Sanchez, Aguero, Fabregas, Costa, Kane, Alli, Kante, Ozil, Pogba and Ibrahimovic spread out over the top 6 teams in Spain, Germany or Italy ? hell no. If it was in Spain, all of these players but the odd one or two would be playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona, if it was in Germany, they would all be in Bayern Munich, if it was Italy, they would all be playing for Juventus.

For me, this is the main difference now compared to a few season's ago. The very best players aren't just playing for the top 2 anymore, they are playing for the top 6.

Standard of the premier league is poor and I don't think currently there is a English team who can compete with Europes best. City IMO could of got further if they had a different manager who can set up a defence. Monaco are a great young team though.

Even though Mourinhos team he built in his first stint never won the champions league that was the best team I have seen which could go toe to toe with any club in Europe.

The point about the very best players not just playing for the top two clubs is a good one but how many Liverpool, Arsenal or Utd players would get in Spurs and Chelsea's teams, just Sanchez and maybe Coutinho. City have Aguero who IMO is better than Costa and equal with Kane. There's others like KDB, Silva and Sane. In other positions I can't see where players from other teams would improve Chelsea and Spurs.

I'm really starting to go off the idea of trying to get Sanchez. He must be terrible for morale, to have a player constantly bitching and moaning at his teammates every time they don't pass to him.

i think it`s only because he`s playing with utter sh*t team mates game after game...don`t think he`ll moan has much here

When you are talking about european competitions, you cant talk of it in a Vaccum. PL takes a lot out of its teams. Each game, and no where near the crap standards of other lower level teams in Spain, Germany and Italy.

Point being, if Benzema is injured, RM can call upon Morata who is being talked to lead our line next season. Bayern can call upon Muller (if Lewa is injured). Now lets see the comparision with the english teams:

Chelsea: Michy (LOL)

Arsenal: Giroud/Welbeck (None of them is good enough to be a starter or a 2nd striker for any european elite team)

Spurs: Jansen (LOL)

City: Jesus (good talent)

United: Rashford (decent talent)

Pool: Origi (LOL)

Its not just about improving the first team, but the squad as a whole. Having world class players like Vidal/Alonso/Alcantara/Renato fighting for 2 spots. Ribery/Robben/Costa/coman fighting for 2 spots etc etc.

None of the pl teams can boast of such squad depth/quality in depth. Which simply makes the PL teams redundant in CL.

Can't see premier league teams competing unless we scrap a cup competition and have some kind of mid season break Neither of these things i really want to happen but it definitely hinders us in Europe.

We would struggle to compete in the CL unless we strengthened. We'd probably get to the knock-out rounds, maybe the 1/4 finals, but no further. We need another quality wingback or 2, a real quality CM, a 2 good strikers to replace Costa and Bats, and maybe even another quality attacking player to replace Willian.

Who's fault is that? Real Madrid have Benzema and Morata. Chelsea have Batman as backup, that is Chelsea's fault and not the rest of Europe.

Bayern have a big squad even though the league is over early and has no competition. Maybe that says even more about the the premier league.

It definitely does. It says that the top players would rather go to pool/spurs or everton (Lukaku) rather than accepting bit part role in the top PL clubs. Add to that the insane costs of english homwgrown players (Stones and sterling) and we have a bit of a lack of decent back ups.

Regarding Morata though it looks like his leaving this summer because his not happy with a bit part role. Bayern don't really have another top forward it's just Muller can play about 3 different positions. Then there's teams like Monaco, PSG, Juventus, Barca, Atletico and even Dortmund.

Getting rid of cup replays, any team playing in the champions league plays on a Friday if they play the following Tuesday and Saturday if they play on Wednesday, stopping pointless international friendlies would all be a start.

Amen to that!!

In fact, stopping international football altogether wouldn't be a bad thing.

Pointless international friendles definitely should be scrapped throughout the season. They should play any friendlies/qualifiers in the Summer imo. The season would probably be able to end a bit earlier too and then the friendlies/qualifiers wouldn't eat into the season or even the players holidays.

Heck why not bring back the Home Nations tournament for the in between years of International tournaments. At least that way they'll be playing in a competitive environment and it won't effect the league seasons.

Anyone seen this? That moron Neville blowing a gasket because some Arsenal and Man U players exchanged pleasantries in the tunnel before the game.

Cech and Mata used to be Chels, of course they're going to hug! And of course JM is going to shake Cech's hand!

I would prefer to see some vicious fighting and blood myself, it has higher entertainment value

Having said that, most pundits are brainless idiots.

Strange how far apart the Neville's are when it comes to punditry. I could listen to Gary all day, Phil on the other hand doesn't have a clue most of the time.

Was pretty much the same on the pitch.

Was listening to intent to TS Gough n Durham show, AD already incensed with unappreciative Geordies, and compares them to Spurs for not accepting their bottle job (it was a tenuous link, but he loves trolling anyone , but Spurs at the moment), cue a Deluded c**t of a spurs fan that proclaims winning the title isn't everything, it the way you play etc blah blah f**kin blah, at that moment Durham goes apoplectic at what he insists is typical the Spurs fans mentality, total and utter Gold........

I'd actually like to see him go there, would be good if more English players truer out playing for teams abroad.

I agree. Too many of them stay here. The ones that i don't understand are the ones that are content with sitting on the bench. If you can't get game time then go abroad. It seem's to be an English thing. Even Wilshere had a chance to go to AC Milan this season, but he went to bloody Bournemouth........that's a crazy decision and a decision that hasn't worked out well for him at all.

Yeah totally, I think it would make them more cultured and would probably have a good effect on the national team too.
