June 29, 201610 yr Deal done? There's nothing on Sky Sports 12:18 BREAKING NEWS Chelsea look set to beat Crystal Palace to the signing of Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi after tabling a £33.2m bid. It’s been reported that he’ll be given special dispensation to have a Chelsea medical, possibly in France, before Belgium’s Euro 2016 quarter-final against Wales on Friday.
June 29, 201610 yr It's on ESPN. Always nice to have a new name and 22-24 is the right age. He can have a season or two understudying Costa and then be the main man for another 5 years if he turns out to be the real deal. Didn't really show that much in the cameo against hungary so just have to wait and see. I'm pleased to see we have done this deal early and on the quiet. Shows intent and execution. June 29, 201610 yr From the Mail.... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3665540/Chelsea-set-beat-rivals-signature-Michy-Batshuayi-Belgium-starlet-bring-England.html What type of player is he? Formerly of Standard Liege - where he scored 39 in 97 league games - Batshuayi knows where the net is. Marseille saw the strength of his game and snapped the 22-year-old up two seasons ago. He can play with his back to goal and provides a really physical option when teams are playing long out from the back due to his ability to shield the ball well from defenders using his body. He is a target man type and for me he is ideally suited to playing on his own rather than as part of a front two - which Marseille experimented with towards the tail end of the season with mixed results. I feel he is best suited to playing as the sole striker or as the central point in a front three with wide players providing for him. Strengths? He is quick and shows great acceleration in one-on-one situations. Michy has the ability to show quick feet and work himself into areas of space to get a strike away. A key component of his play is his ability to use both feet, capable of scoring off the right or left, he provides defenders who would normally force an opponent onto his weak foot a real headache because he doesn't have one. Aerially he is not a towering striker but he shows a great leap and can more than handle himself in high-ball situations. Ratio wise he works out around one in three for Standard Liege and has a similar record to date for Marseille. Weaknesses? Supporters can expect moments of brilliance from him but should also be prepared for long periods of frustration. Batshuayi can be hugely selfish in front of goal and at times it looks like he is playing for himself. Far too often when the pass is glaringly obvious, he shoots. You can see in his team-mates' body language at times just how frustrated he makes them. His decision-making can really make you scratch your head. Oh, and don't expect to see him helping out in defence too often. Who does he suit? Teams who prefer to play with one up top or if needs must, teams who have a front two which involves a hard worker who will do the pressing and allow him to take up poaching positions within the box. The talk is Chelsea, Tottenham and Palace. Of those teams I think he may find it difficult to dislodge Harry Kane from the starting XI and I don't see him being able to play alongside him unless he adapted his style of play. Chelsea have favoured the lone striker approach in past seasons and fits that system. In Diego Costa they have someone with experience who knows how to get into the heads of opponents. Batshuayi is not that type of player and shows on pitch immaturity at times but he will offer a faster option up top which may suit Conte's new-look approach. At the head of a front three with Hazard and Pedro either side he could find a lot of chances coming his way but it's a risk for a new manager to put his trust in a player so young at a team like Chelsea where success is demanded. Palace are crying out for a regular goalscorer and he could bring a different dynamic to what they already have upfront, but without the work rate he would find himself on the bench quickly. Whichever team and manager take him they will have to do so on the understanding that he needs to be taught real focus in terms of teamwork and decision-making. How far can he go? He has the potential to develop into a very good player. He is different in style to what Belgium currently have to choose from. More mobile than Romelu Lukaku, more creative than Christian Benteke and slightly more on-pitch intelligence than Divok Origi, but he also has far more greed in his play and a bigger selfish streak in the final third than the rest. Time will tell if he can adapt those parts of his game but if he settles and feels wanted, he can be a real goal threat on his day.
June 29, 201610 yr 5 months younger to lukaku, and atleast a couple of levels lower than him. Well, so much for "progress". He is a decent prospect. 33mil pounds is a joke though.

June 29, 201610 yr Funny I just bought him for Chelsea in Fifa16 a few months ago. He is currently my fourth choice behind Costa, Aubameyang and Morata [emoji1] Edited June 29, 201610 yr by evissy
June 29, 201610 yr Had a hand in 33 goals last season for OM. 23 Goals and 10 assists, 18 more than any other OM player apparently.

June 29, 201610 yr I didn't expect this one but nevertheless I'm pleased he's joining. Hopefully he doesn't join our B team in the Netherlands on loan and provides quality backup to Costa. If he does sign however it more than likely spells the end for players like Remy and Bamford
June 29, 201610 yr I don't much about the guy so I can't judge but the price seems steep and if we were battling Crystal Palace for him is he all that good? I still really hope we sign morata too
June 29, 201610 yr ^ I read somewhere that Palace were never seriously intending to sign Batshuayi, but merely put in a bid to grease the wheels (and therefore assist Marseille) to help them in their bid for Steve Mandanda.

June 29, 201610 yr you obviously dont know the reliable sources on twitter. Yeah the guy who posted Hulk was about to join is a name I always see floating about on here regarding transfers. Twitter is full of tripe.
June 29, 201610 yr He's followed Chelsea and some Chelsea players on Twitter as well as the premier league, so either he woke up and decided to become a Chelsea fan, or he's joining.
June 29, 201610 yr Wilmots also picks Fellaini over actual footballers so I wouldn't read too much into that. True! ha.
