July 21, 20169 yr What's the skinny on this fellow? Apparently the Benfica CB we are interested in. 09.19 BST: Portuguese newspaper A Bola is reporting that Benfica are hoping to resist interest from Chelsea in centre-back Victor Lindelof.
July 21, 20169 yr Let's just give that spot to Aina, we can grow our own RB which is ready to give everything to the club. Grew up here, we have to give him that chance to prove himself on high level.
July 21, 20169 yr Aina isnt a CB, they arent competing for the same spot My bad, I thought Lindelof is RB.
July 23, 20169 yr can't say i know much about him. If we were to sign someone i think we need to sign a proven defender rather than a promising prospect. We have promising prospects in our academy.
July 23, 20169 yr can't say i know much about him. If we were to sign someone i think we need to sign a proven defender rather than a promising prospect. We have promising prospects in our academy. We don't really have much choice to be honest. Have you seen the prices going around for defenders?.
July 23, 20169 yr Author I wish we'd get on with signing a Chelsea class defender or two or two. I did like the look of that manolas but what do I know.
July 24, 20169 yr £25 mil for someone who has played for Benfica B team the last 4 season and just 15 first team apperances. I would rather pay the £50 mil for Koulibaly then. Edited July 24, 20169 yr by comtrend
July 24, 20169 yr the problem is, we obviously have a budget and the board aren't just going to go out and pay full wack for these players. we need to be smart and efficient in the market because clubs are being fleeced left and right at the moment. i feel we've done great business so far considering what we've spent, so i put trust in the people in charge to bring the quality to the club while also working within our budget. if other teams wanna go out and spend for the sake of it, that's their choice, but like conte said recently in a presser, we aren't rushing decisions and we're looking at targets and making the signings logically, rather than off emotion.
July 24, 20169 yr Why does some fans think it's 10 years ago when we had complete control over the transfer market we are just about in the top 5 of clubs to choose from now with all the money flying around we can't just go out and outbid other teams anymore Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk Edited July 24, 20169 yr by Brutos
July 24, 20169 yr I think the issue is fans look at teams that work within a budget (like Arsenal) and equate that with us no longer being successful (again, like Arsenal). I'm happy with the club working hard to secure the right players for the best price. Conte and the board won't let us down!!

So playing for benfica B team is not a bad thing at that age. If the top 3-4 targets are not gettable we should quickly move on to the next in line. Imagine if we had given up on stones early and went down to Alderweirald last summer.
August 8, 20169 yr He is out 4th choice in the market but will be better than all our current CBs apart from Zouma. Summarises the crap position our defense is in right now.
August 8, 20169 yr Summarises the crap position our defense is in right now. Such is the level of confidence in our defence I'd be happy if we signed Jonny Evans tbh Edited August 8, 20169 yr by the special one

August 8, 20169 yr You have got to be kidding. Wish I was... sorry to be so pessimistic but unless the formation is something like 4-3-2-1 with 3 holding DMs to protect the back four I've seen enough last season / this pre season to suggest the Cahill -- JT partnership is finished. I'm glad JT signed for another year, but for me a 28 yr old Jonny Evans is certainly as good if not better than a 35 (soon to be 36) yr old JT.

Just for that kung fu kick on drogba would be enough for me to say no...let alone thinking he's crap. The united fans thought they had a real gem on their hands didnt they? August 9, 20169 yr Don't want to see any of those United arseholes here. Evans looks like a huge c**t. An okay player, nothing more.

I actually think Terry is in the best shape of his life. Age certainly is being friendly do him, the guy is a beast. I'd suggest he is fitter than the majority of 30 year olds, not too concerned that he's (nearly) 36.
August 9, 20169 yr Author I actually think Terry is in the best shape of his life. Age certainly is being friendly do him, the guy is a beast. I'd suggest he is fitter than the majority of 30 year olds, not too concerned that he's (nearly) 36. You must be joking. I've seen him grimacing and limping in back play already in preseason. Never mind the lack of pace and lack of agility. His positional play is still good as is his touch and he is strong in the air. It's just not enough. His ability to lead the team goes down because the rest of the team start to see him as more of a liability than an asset.
August 9, 20169 yr Makes you wonder if giving a new contract was a gift and a curse. We would have made a CB a priority well ahead of preseason without the contract. You can't just play more than one of Ivanovic/Terry/Cahill at any given time. Scares the sh*t out of me knowing all 3 might be starting against West Ham.
