His days as a defender are numbered. He'd be better off converted to a left winger or support striker

Bamba made a fool of him imo

Sadly true. So did Weah.

I thought he was alright in the 1st, currently Chalobah that worries me he is being caught out by shorter defenders that turn quickly.

What I have noticed with Alonso and it reminds me of Pedro in his last season too, they are not pulling off the moves they are good at.

Alonso used to be a good set piece taker just think he has given up extra training as he is not being played regularly so he is out of practise when he gets set pieces like yesterday.

He's still good at them, it's just that we don't get enough dangerous free kick positions whenever he plays.

Declined worse than Brana at the end.

He was always poor defensively but now I would not expect him to get the better of a 13 year old in a 1 on 1, and on top of that he offers nothing going forward anymore. Total liability.

Hope Maatsen really shows Tuchel something in pre season so we never have to see this guy  play for us ever again.

If he plays in any of the games v Madrid he's capable of almost single-handedly send us out of the Champions League. He's that bad.

Tuchel needs to find a way to keep him out of the side on Wednesday. Azpi and James as wingbacks I suppose with one of them taking the left side.

James certainly did not look comfortable there the other day.

It's a while since Azpi played there and Azpi can at times get caught upfield.

That leaves Sarr, Kenedy or Pulisic.

On Pulisic after his goal for the US that would be sad if we put him in as a LWB.

Yep forgot about Saul not convinced either would rather try Sarr for me.

Sarr, a player who is not good enough on the ball as a cb playing as lwb.  🤢🤢

Yeah he was at fault for all the goals on Saturday! Kenedy woukd have done a way better job.

How he is still playing at this level is absolutely astounding. He wouldn't fill the 2nd LB spots at any of our rival clubs around Europe so how he has gone this long for us is beyond biblical. Terrible player, on his day can score a great goal though, I'll give him that. It just highlights how utterly shambolic our transfer policy has been defensively in recent years that he is our back up.

Tbh the only match i saw kennedy play was terrible. He is not good enough to play for us and there is a reason why Tuchel is not giving him any minutes.

I am not familiar or up to date with our youngsters in that lwb position but am sure they will not be much worse than alonso and Kennedy in there.

Was more meant as a tongue in cheek comment as Alonso came off at 1-2, wasn't really at fault for the goal and Reece didn't do much better.

Lets shed some light on Alonso. Had a good game, nearly a Goal too and his height really helps out in defence or for goal kicks. He still has it in him but only really in a back three.

Had a good game and tough on him to get his goal disallowed by a really stupid rule (if it was a defender, that wouldn’t be considered a penalty).

Although never world class he has so many memorable Chelsea moments. Certainly think he's a position to upgrade but been a good player over the years.

Defiantly IS or at least was and now shows streaks of world class levels.

He plays a sweet few games, Has a mare and everyone writes him off only for him to hit back like will smith

Been the same since he turned up, Dividing your critics is a good litmus test of success.

Its a ridiculous rule, it goes entirely against almost all the other rules in the game that are based around intent. To just say any touch of the ball by hand is a free kick is pathetic.

Agree, and it is biased against the attacking team as it is a free kick even if the attacker has the had pressed against the body while it is not considered a penalty if the defender has the arm close to the body. It doesn’t make sense.

Maybe I am understanding the rule wrong but as far as I read it if the ball touches elbow or below and the same player scores a goal then said goal is always disallowed.

However if what happened last night was Alonso has his shot saved by Tibo then Havertz turns it in the goal will stand even though same phase of play. Is truly a stupid rule but one th refs followed.
