Yes he isn't up there with the greatest ever but as a footballer he is a model professional (albeit you might think twice about being in his passenger seat). 1. Never moans to the press 2. New contracts are not a drawn out ordeal. 3. No sulking when he is dropped even for long periods of time. 4. No onfield or off field tantrums. 5. Doesn't dress like a fanny and live his life through social media. 6. Isn't Welsh Everything you want in a squad player. He does look like Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. Slightly unsure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
April 28, 20224 yr Best finisher in the club. Also one of the best controlling the ball....Play him up top!

Not a big fan of alonso’s defensive work damn near awful at times but the idea of converting him to a striker has been mooted on a few forums of late. I think he would do a good job up there if our strikers are struggling.
April 29, 20224 yr He’s definitely no striker and we’ve played well recently when both Alonso and Reese are pinging the balls in…. We just need someone capable to get on the end of them!
April 29, 20224 yr Honestly whoever trained him from a young age and told him to be a left back robbed the world of potentially one of the best strikers of his generation, such a good natural finisher
April 29, 20224 yr Another well taken goal. The man is clinical and loaded with technique. Nice goal Marcos!
April 29, 20224 yr I like Alonso, scores great goals and when others are struggling to finish chances gives them an example of how it should be done and is good for the team. No doubt defensively he is weaker as he is too often caught out of position. Yet a known quantity for the manager to handle.
April 30, 20224 yr Cult figure? Been a good signing overall. Few dodgy moments sure but overall, very good.
April 30, 20224 yr It’s weird for a left back but I’ll remember him for his brilliant finishing and free kicks. If it were up to me, I’d keep him. He seems ok with being back up and damn, he is handy to have. A ball is flying into the box, who do we want to take it? Of course, Alonso. Such a good finisher.

Is a delect balance of picking the right time for him to go. We always have Branas time as a warning. If Barca are willing to offer a fee of say around 12mill or more with him having a year left on his deal is worth considering.

I certainly can see him going down Ivanovic route so yeah now may be a good time to sell him. I’ll remember him fondly though.

May 5, 20224 yr Man, Marcos A has been a polarizing figure for Chelsea. Been absolutely massive for us at times, and also incredibly frustrating to watch as well.

Part of the old Chelsea for me. We have an opportunity to rebuild under new owners and move on from the Roman Era, as we did from the Ken Bates Era. Be good for the likes of Alonso and Dave to join Toni and AC out the door. Along with Bruce and Marina too.

Only thing about losing all those players at once.. makes replacing much more important and difficult; can't afford to screw it up. I like Dave staying an extra year for a transitional purpose and plus he's a great teammate, leader, and he always works hard. You never have to worry about that, so I have no qualm if Dave stays past this season. Colwill coming in should get an opportunity to make the squad and impress TT, but we shall see how that goes.

Whilst that may be true, age is coming at him rather hard. He's prone to errors which directly come at a result of being pressed. If Kounde is certain coming in I reckon that's Dave off.

But, having that leadership in the dressing room, showing the younger lads how to be a proper professional and teaching them the little things, it could be truly valuable. Now, whether he would be willing to really accept less playing time and that role, is up to him. But he seems like a true professional, so I don't think that would be an issue.

From what I've read he's keen on leaving. I get the leadership/dressing room notion but let's be real here, we've progressively moved sideways season after season since 2018. I really doubt his influence is that much. There were several instances this season where Chalobah arguably should've been playing over him. Kounde, Chalobah at RCB and James/Sterling at RWB and I reckon we will be more than fine.

Don't forget Colwill coming in from loan, as well. He's looked really good this season and could fight for minutes back there as well -- at least I hope! But we shall see if that materializes or not.
May 6, 20224 yr I think he’s a fabulous footballer, perhaps not the best defender, nonchalant Spanish skills, so good to watch, and boy can he finish…..
May 9, 20224 yr Last time we`ll see him play I expect after he an Tuchel had an argument at half time.
