Maybe I am understanding the rule wrong but as far as I read it if the ball touches elbow or below and the same player scores a goal then said goal is always disallowed.

However if what happened last night was Alonso has his shot saved by Tibo then Havertz turns it in the goal will stand even though same phase of play. Is truly a stupid rule but one th refs followed.

From the PL website, you're right:

"If an attacking player’s accidental handball immediately precedes another player scoring, the goal will now be awarded, when last season it was likely to have been ruled out.

However, a player will still be penalised if he commits an accidental handball immediately before scoring himself."

A very stupid rule because it's not like Alonso had his hand or arm separated from the body and helping himself with the hand.

Yeah it is a stupid rule because my above example is then correct.

Or even worse Alonso smacks to ball which hits Werner and goes in. Goal stands cause is Werners goal. However if it hits Alaba and goes in it is disallowed as Alonsos shot is still on target.

Crazy.

That just makes it even stupider doesn't it, lunacy.

Wouldn't stand.... werner would clearly be offside 🤣

He’s such a handy player to have in the squad but my god he does go through really awful phrases.

It’s frustrating because when you get Alonso like against Real Madrid, such a good player.

Alonso basically swings the way the team is playing. If we play well, he plays well, if we are playing poor, he plays poor.

Especially in a week when one of our best and most important players decides to leave.

He's been a great servant who gets some unfair stick from some of our fans. He's a very talented player who's scored some memorable goals. I'd also like to see a compilation of his best nearly-goals, as there have been plenty of them.

I believe he has a year left on his deal. My concern would be he is already on the downturn like Brana was.

Especially if we do switch to a back 4 we may want to look at selling him this summer, or just allowing him to leave for a free next summer.

Reckon we go into next season with 3 LBs/LWBs.

Think Tuchel will have a full blown aneurism at the thought of having only Alonso if Chilwell gets injured again.

If we go to a back 4 in theory we could sell Alonso and have the full back positions covered without the need to spend:

James and Dave

Chilwell and Emerson

That leaves the CB positions where he so far has:

Silva, Sarr and Chalobah. Here is where we would be left short.

Alonso has got some stick over the years for some of his performances but we have had many players during his time be consistently worse. Yes he isn't up there with the greatest ever but as a footballer he is a model professional (albeit you might think twice about being in his passenger seat).

1. Never moans to the press

2. New contracts are not a drawn out ordeal.

3. No sulking when he is dropped even for long periods of time.

4. No onfield or off field tantrums.

5. Doesn't dress like a fanny and live his life through social media.

6. Isn't Welsh

Everything you want in a squad player.

Emerson's contact is up this summer and Alonso has a year remaining and on 100kpw. Can't see us selling him.

Emerson has one more year after this summer, he signed the one year extention before going on loan. Lyon can buy him but sounds like they won't.

Cheers didn't know that. 65kpw I'm seeing and based on his performance at Lyon this season we may find some suitors for him to sell this summer.

Or Tuchel may end up using him.

Apart from his little paddy when Lampard subbed him and he sat on the team coach instead of on the bench. Always one exception to the rule.

If we move to back 4 there will be big questions on all of our cb ability to play in back 4 including Silva.

Plus we will have midfield problem. I don't like our team in back 4 without Kante n we all know we can't expect kants to be fit all season.
