Marcos Alonso

Featured Replies

209 games for Chelsea 28 goals and 22 assists. Not too bad for a leftback. In terms of footballing skills he is one of the best in the squad. When you look at him shoot you always think why can't our attackers shoot like he does. It would be a good asset to have as an attacker. When he leaves we will miss him that is for sure.

We all know he is very limited defending against quick wingers which is a real downside.

So he had a hated argument with TT during half-time hence the sub (v. Wolves).

Makes sense now.

Alonso had an argument with Lampard and now Tuchel.

I do not expect him to start anymore unless Tuchel's desperate.

But I don't care, he is one of the key players that needs to go.

Last time we`ll see him play I expect after he an Tuchel had an argument at half time.

They argued? I missed that tidbit completely. Was it about socks?

Ah, the number of times I've thought we'd seen the last of Alonso in a Chelsea shirt...

Don't care if they argued. I don't want Sarr starting any games.

Will probably be Saul mate or CHO if fit. Also I don't understand the Saul situation. He looked awful at one point and TT kept playing him and then he started to look good and he was dropped. He caught covid but after being recovered for a long while we've barely seen him. The only reason I can think is he needed longer to recover or TT just doesn't rate him.

Should be replaced by a youth player, but Tuchel doesnt seem to want to play them at all for some reason, other than the established ones from before he arrived.

So Sarr at wing back for Liverpool, lovely.

Either way I’m happy for Alonso to go. If he did this during Lampard’s tenure and now did it during Tuchel’s he’s obviously a problem.

Alonso has popped up with some great goals over the years, but his overall play has put us more at a disadvantage over the years.

I'm really not bothered at all about most of our defence moving on as they have been a liability. Stronger defenders with better mentalities are required, as well as players better with the ball at their feet.

Ah this game perfectly sums up Marcos Alonso. Lazy defending plays its part in us letting a goal in, then he goes and does that at the other end. Lol

It summed up his career with us beautifully, and hopefully is his final game. Garbage, lazy, embarrassing defending, just looked so disinterested. then a back post volley with perfect technique. Cheers Marco, now f**k off somewhere else please.

Has his uses, but maybe it is time we started using him more upfront rather than as WB. His finishing is lethal, but that space he left in Leicester's goal was just embarrassing. But I felt that Rudi was also partly guilty. He had been rampaging up front forgetting to keep his position, a la David Luiz, and that left side was just barren of any defender in their counter. Rudi afterwards started to keep more in position afterwards.

With respect, I think this is slightly harsh. He has been a good player down the years and played an important part in Premier League, Champions League, and Europa League winning seasons. He has also popped up with some massive goals over the years.

Chilwell got injured this season in November/ December time meaning Alonso has had to play pretty much every week since with little rest or cover, and all things considered I don't think he has done too badly.

Now is 100% the right time to move him on, but I do think his time and contributions here have been broadly positive. (He has had a few stinkers but who hasnt?)

I do think we will miss his goal contributions, and certainly his threat from set pieces. I think we now only have Ziyech who can take free kicks and I don't think he has scored one for us yet.
