September 17, 20169 yr I think what is the most frustrating is not the losing of any game, but management ignoring the most glaringly obvious. Most CFC fans have continually pointed out our weaknesses since last season, both in terms of tactics and players, yet surprisingly not seemingly recognized by the Manager(s) or those responsible for recruiting players during the off season. This game exposed our entire portfolio of weaknesses, and Liverpool did not have to try that hard, so let's hope Conte wakes up to the fact before we start suffering defeats on a weekly basis. He's new to this league, I get it, he is still learning but you mean to tell me he didn't see the warning signs against Watford and Swansea in that we have not really progressed from a 10th place finish.....and any thoughts of playing 3 at the back are a long way off (I hope) until he gets this utter sh*te of a defence sorted out. I am not necessarily mad at the players themselves, I am just upset they have been selected week in week out and offer up the same dross more often than not; pedestrian football for the most part, allowing the opposition time to set up, then failing to penetrate even the most basic of defences. Some of our members here select far more sensible teams for each game than the manager does....perhaps he should pay us a visit now and then Rant over.......lets hope this team get's their act together before the Leicester game but we will find that out when the lineup is announced.
September 17, 20169 yr Having slept on it, we were beaten by their desire and work rate, you have to take a long look at yourself if you need a whole half and a bollocking at half time to get anywhere near their level. The first goal was quite possibly the worst bit of defending from us in recent years - and there has been some sh*te! The 2nd goal is either unstoppable or row z as it was from Henderson, Sod's law it was the former. Subs came too late. Oscar shouldn't have even come out for the second half, and we should have made further changes when we scored and were the more offensive team - turning the screw. Liverpool are defensively fragile and we failed to exploit that when we had the chance. I just don't see how Cesc doesn't start now next time. Edited September 17, 20169 yr by Blue Exile

September 17, 20169 yr Don't post on here too often but got to say, that was a horrible performance last night. I genuinely think that this team will let down any manager, and I think that when the going gets really tough, sticking with the manager will be very important and let him sell and buy in the players he needs to get this club back to being world class on the pitch. I do think conte made a mistake yesterday though in allowing Liverpool to take the game to us. He didn't want to expose our slow aging defence against their forward 3s pace but if you attack and cut off the supply lines, we would have been able to handle it. Doesnt surprise me Liverpool look a solid team. It's a team with a number of home grown players and when you consider our team at its best, man utds team at its best, they all had a nucleus of home grown players. Think we need to give Rubén more game time personally. anyway, felt the need to get that off my chest, bring on Leicester!
September 17, 20169 yr Looking at the table again gets me pissed off that Manchester City are getting more comfortable on top of the table.
September 17, 20169 yr What happened it was everything about last night starting from players saying 1 what a good team POOL a 2 , the pethetic light show 3, lack of atmasphere,. no passion, poor tactics we are playing liverpool ffs this is a war , some one give Conte a vidio of our previous battles against them (to late now ) the tactics were poor to say the least , with playing only one up front and having two holding midfielders matic ,kante , with the later seeming to have the job as play maker , unless we passed the ball back , and back to david luiz to fire a 50 yard pass to either Hazzard or Brana which often went astray meaning they were caught up field leaving us hoplessles exposed and chasing shadows and with liverpool out numbering us in midfeld and are lack of attack allowed them to move defenders into midfield as well , we gave ourselves very little chance to win from the offset Its very easy to knock our players but we need to give them a chance by not playing them in postions they are easy to mark out of the game , come on Boss if ever a game was calling for two up front this was
September 17, 20169 yr In the first half Liverpool's press forced us into mistakes and quick turnovers of possession, and on the transition they were just too good. That said for me it was poor marking from a set piece and Cahill's inability to instinctively hoof it up the pitch that cost us the game. Edited September 17, 20169 yr by the special one

Don't understand the reason why we're holding Fabs until so late in the game. I really do feel our players don't give two hoots. It seems they're total mercenaries and have no interest in the result, other than being booed off the pitch, which rightly they should be. The heart and soul of the team is not there. Nothing has changed since last year. Mou should have stayed and half the team or more should have been sacked. He didn't want to stay. Heart was always in Utd. Plus it was him who kept Oscar and sold 3 very good young attacking players of ours. Edited September 17, 20169 yr by KonaKai Blue

Before their goal we had several opportunites to counterattack into lots of space, but we couldn't get one forward pass right. Half their attacks came from our players stressing for no reason and giving the ball away cheap. The game was up for grabs for a long time after our goal, but where was the substitutions ? A mixture of awful play and poor manager decision making then? Can't disagree with that at all. I was expecting perhaps a change at half time and definitely by the 60th minute. I thought Moses looked pretty dangerous when he came on.

And Oscar for that matter. Kante could be very good for us, but listening on here its as though he could do no wrong. I didnt see him break up much play yesterday. I saw him caught the wrong side quite often. His passing was dismal, and overall he had no effect on the game. Headless chicken comes to mind. Matic wasnt amazing, but at least he set up a goal to get us back into the game and used the ball ok.
September 17, 20169 yr We learn and move on from this how the team plays reacts in next two matches will tell us what they are about and if the have improved from last season
September 17, 20169 yr I could not understand how we started this game. Sitting back, not pressing and just letting them pass around us. When we had the ball in the first half there were far too many floated passes to the left or right slowing the play. There was no quick passing or movement and our shape looked all over the place. Their first goal was a joke. Absolutely no organisation and that's where we missed JT. But that goal started with one of Ivan's usual, needless fouls for their free kick. After we scored our second their was just not enough intensity or inventiveness to get an equaliser. We need to start on the front foot and impose our game on the opposition not the other way round.
September 17, 20169 yr Never enjoy seeing the dippers beat us but defeat this early in the season isn't the end of the world, it's still early days for Conte and he will have learned more from this game than he has against mid table opposition. On yesterday's evidence 4-1-4-1 isn't the solution to Klopp's "gegenpress". Edited September 17, 20169 yr by the special one
September 17, 20169 yr Pretty much said it all in the countless previous posts. We will not win/progress unless the f ck up of a so called defence is re built.
September 17, 20169 yr Author Lol at the Liverpool fans who turn up on here as 'guests' overnight and this morning, expecting to see us all gloating over their team, only to find the usual slagging off. Then they get upset and start reporting the posts. Eh? Eh? Eh?" "Dey do do dat dough don't dey dough

As bad as defending was for first goal in particular, we lost the game in midfield last night...players like Oscar and Willian were getting robbed of possession too easily and then Liverpool could play one pass behind Oscar and Matic and they were in at our back four...Kante was running all over the pitch trying to make amends for his teammates failings but couldn't be everywhere all of the time...

That sadly has become the exception to the norm in the past year
September 17, 20169 yr Brief though they may be, let’s start with a few positives that can be taken from this game:- 1. Despite conceding two goals David Luiz emerged blameless and was our best defender. It is good to have him back, because he is undoubtedly proud to wear the shirt and always gives a damn. 2. I’ve seen enough during our first five games under Conte (yes, it is only five) to judge this team capable of better quality football than that played in the first half last night. The sum of the squad’s parts can produce a whole lot more, as evidenced by a second half in which [unchanged] we showed the necessary desire and aggression - such a pity we didn’t wake up earlier, but more on that later. 3. The pattern of play, 4-1-4-1 in this instance, was chosen and drilled by the coach and I don’t have a problem with it defensively when the team performs as it should, but there were too many occasions in the first half when Conte was screaming at his back four not to sit so deep, almost on the edge of the penalty area, as this meant our midfield could not close down their opposite numbers, with Kante the only one to even attempt a tackle. Over time, when Azpi, Zouma, Terry, Luiz and Alonso are permanent fixtures at the back, with Cesc and Batshuayi added to the mix, we will have endless possibilities for formations and setups, not least the 3-5-2 many of us are longing to see. Now the home truths:- 1. Ironically, time is running out for Branna at full back at precisely the moment Gary Cahill puts up a situation vacant sign on his central berth, meaning only two out of four defenders were in any sort of form yesterday. With hindsight, we would have been better served bringing Alonso in at left back, switching Azpi to his favoured side and pairing Branna with Geezer in the centre. 2. Having Matic end up alongside Konte is just too sedentary a scenario, a recipe for disaster, but that’s exactly what happened yesterday. And, sadly, Matic does not provide sufficient momentum going forward these days, so when Oscar and Willian are as ineffectual as they were the onus on Hazard to create something out of nothing often proves too great a burden 3. Diego is becoming increasingly isolated in this system and although he is in decent enough form to compensate there are clear lessons to be learned, not least when it comes to the ever-growing need to provide him with a strike partner. This will not have escaped Conte’s attention, of course, and when all these negative factors are distilled into decision-making changes I’m sure he wont disappoint. In fact, the way forward looks clear to me - the adoption of a 3-5-2 formation that sees Alonso given a debut, Cesc a return ticket to the first team, and Batshuayi a chance to show what he can do in tandem with Diego… and the Emirates looks as good a place as any to get on with a job that now needs doing sooner rather than later. .
September 17, 20169 yr Nice post Dorset as always......but when is the manager going to have the balls to sit down Ivan, Cahill and Matic and to a lesser extent Oscar and Willian in a meaningful game. 5 games in I don't expect miracles, but I expect to see better than what we have seen so far in the last couple of games especially last nights appalling first half performance. But nothing will change when he keeps selecting out of form players or players that are unable to play the way he expects.
September 17, 20169 yr Honeymoon period over ... !!! New Manager already making same mistake as Jose by sticking to an identical weekly team and giving no one else a look in. Has to change line-up next few games otherwise we all know where this is going. Hungry fresh blood needed ... ... Chalobah ... Ola ... Michy with Costa ... Kennedy (hmmm ...) Totally outclassed by LFC.
September 17, 20169 yr Slept on this loss and it still sucks but lets hope for the best and hope that the boys learn from their mistakes, errors and failures. There's still 33 games left to play, anything can happen still.
