Leicester Vs Chelsea (EFLcup) Tues 20/09/ 2016 KO 19:45 GMT

Fabulous win and great show of strength and determination to comeback after being 2-0 down at one stage.

Fabregas did himself no harm in demonstrating why he should be getting more of a look in from Conte than he has so far this season.

Notwithstanding the goals for whom I blame begovick as much as anyone, I do think it was way better with azpi on the right and Alonso on the left.

It's the stupid mistakes that are costing us in defence, but my goodness Leicester do find some holes.

Alonso I'd give an ok to. Not good but not bad, clearly well ahead of say baba defensively even if not yet Ashley Cole.

Matic was excellent tonight. For my money batsman was only ok.

Chalobah deserves more minutes but just as a sub to start with. He won't be taking oscars place just yet though, nor matic.

In the end a good win.

I'm new here, so I apologize if this has already been discussed many times before, but why not play Fabregas in the number 10 role instead of Oscar (especially after this performance)? This seems like a no-brainer to me now. Not only is he suited for the role but he's earned a start. And I say instead of Oscar because I feel Kante and Matic in the deeper midfield role are an excellent pairing, not to mention they have too much quality for either to be left on the bench. And don't tell me we need Oscar to track back and be a box to box when we have Matic and Kante in front of the back four! A terrible back four at the moment, but that's whole other topic!

So best 11 is:

                  Courtois

Dave - Terry - Luiz - Ivanovic

             Matic - Kante

Willian - FABREGAS - Hazard

                  Costa

Thoughts?

All the available evidence suggests otherwise.

about what? defender instinct? Cahill consistently make mistakes, much more frequent than Luiz, but Luiz's mistake are more spectacular while Cahill's more subtle. hencewhy people always says Cahill is a better defender than Luiz, which i fully disagree

Welcome mate :)

I completely agree with you along with everyone else about Cesc... Oscar looks much sharper this season under Conte but for me he just doesn't do enough as a number 10, his forward pressure is good but (imo) that's really about it... he plays well when the team is playing well but otherwise he goes missing. Costa looks lethal this season and is rejuvenated under Conte, all we need to do is get Cesc on the park to feed him. Side note - anyone else notice how much better Dave looks on the right? He also made a few good forward passes all because he is on his preferred side

I can't see Alonso starting against Arsenal so I'd imagine we'd see:

                    Tibo

Ivanovic - Luiz/Cahill - Terry - Dave

                    Kante

   Willian - Oscar - Matic - Hazard

                    Costa

Unfortunately I can't see Conte dropping Oscar to the bench and bringing Cesc to the starting line-up anytime soon despite last night's performance :(

Great performance from the team and we should be happy here with the result.  My analysis of the team.  Luiz is good but needs an organiser alongside him - Terry would do well with him cause he organises the defence really well - but I can't wait for Zouma to return so that we have a fast and alert defence. Cahill should not start.  Begovic - dear lord! He makes Courtois look good, and Courtois has been sh*t recently!!!

Then onto this kid that's so over hyped. RLC -This boy should be sent out on loan.  He is so lazy and just jogging on the pitch doing nothing!  He needs to go and play every week develop - was so unimpressed by him.

Chalobah should start to get more minutes.  I think he's a very good holding mid.  Him and Kante central is good for Chelsea - which will give the following a chance,

Cesc fabregas - should be par of the Chelsea team with Moses on the right and Hazard left.  I think we will get more from Cesc then Osca.

Well done to the team yesterday!  I enjoyed the match and the possession and confidence we showed!

playing on the right...

It was funny, I remember his little drift infield when it looked like he had no idea where he was going, and I thought "wow he really has no attacking instincts whatsoever". Seconds later...

For what it's worth I thought both full-backs were awful in the first half. Demarai Gray had the beating of both of them, he had an excellent game. Think it's the first time I've seen Schlupp start on the right as well.

I thought exactly the same - "oh it's Dave of all people, completely the wrong player to get it there"!

Brilliant performance and Brilliant character shown by the team. I thought we were dead and buried.

Once again we started slowly. This is not a CONTE thing, this is not a JOse thing or a GUSS thing. Simply on the players. Too often we just let the whole first half glide past us with us literally doing nothing. Way too often.

GC was abysmal last night. Luiz was good, Azpi did not have the best of the nights and alonso looked okay. But our defence needs JT. End of. the organisation was non-existent and I simply dont want to see GC-LUIZ paired together unless we have to.

Moses was a JOY to watch. Honestly, I have been shouting at the top of my voice for this lad to get a chance (not on this forum though). Finally he has it and it seems he has taken his chance. Willian's sub par performance SHOULD mean that moses gets a look in.

Pedro was average and barely provided anything. Michy was another one who i think had a good game. RLC is simply not a striker however you want to look at it.

Cesc has to be a starter. If Conte cant see that for some weird reason like Jose could not see KDB being a world class no.10 ahead of a player like Oscar, then we are DOOMED. simple as that. Our defence is not leaking goals because of the midfield. Its leaking goals because of their defensive errors. All of them. Sacrificing our only creative player is downright NAIVE. Cesc needs to start. SIMPLE as that.

Now lets get another win at the emirates. COME ON CHELSEA.

Interested to know what people watching on the TV thought, but I thought Chalobah was very impressive when he came on. Looked confident on the ball, used it simply and well and is more physical than he looks. Contrast that to Loftus-Cheek - the game seemed to pass him by.

Just got home from the game as I stayed over night. It certainly was a roller coaster of game. Great support althrough the game even when we were 2 nil down.

My view from the stands was Begovic was really poor, his positioning for both goals was poor IMO he should have stopped both goals.

Alonso had a good game except for the poor pass that led to the first goal, Dave was excellent on the right plus the goal.

Central pair made me a nervous wreak ever time the started playing back forth between themselves and nearly got caught out more than once.

Midfield was ok didn't really create much in the first half. RLC is not a  No 10. Moses had a good game stayed wide and gave the fullback a rough time.

Pedro for me is to lightweight  got fancy footwork but no end production

Batman played well with what little service he got.

Costa was awesome when he came on ran the 2 centre backs ragged. Just couldn't get the ball in the net.

Had to laugh at the little Leicester fans trying to be hard lol trying to kick off in the ground while hiding behind the row of coppers.

Not really sure why everyone keeps persisting with Loftus so high up the pitch. His best game in a Chelsea shirt, i believe, was his debut against Liverpool when he was playing in the double pivot next to Mikel. Swap Mikel with Kante and I don't see why Loftus can't play there.

well done lads  David Luiz  is a worry with his head he pulls out of heading the ball watch the game again you will see  Cahill has a crap first touch but things will improve

Did you see what happened with those two blokes who got escorted out during extra time? I was sat in the West Stand on the other side so I couldn't really see what was happening.

All I heard was the Chelsea fans ironically cheering and yelling 'w**ker' while two lads got dragged off by the coppers.

I was right next that stand about half way up... They were giving it large and started throwing plastic bottles... There were kids 15/16 year olds. Obviously didn,t think the coppers would do anything. There was a group of about 20 of them right at the back of the stand

Leicester guys opposite me in that stand were saying they were going to be looking for us outside lol. Didn,t see any of them lol. And we waited around even had time to watch the bird do her Chelsea tv stuff.

If that's the case then why not use him as CB? No reason why a good DM can't be a good defender.. he used to be a defender anyway.. JT is good but his lack of pace is always gonna be a problem unless we persist with low block gameplan which is boring.. Ivanovic is finished, luiz is eratic, cahill is only decent..

Nice piece from Conte on the web site praising the travelling fans last night. From 0-2 down to the end he stated that the crowd were with the team and were incredible.

The first half was easily our best half of the season, and we were unlucky to fall behind. However, we fell back into old habits in the second half by not tracking back and covering our two CBs. We could have easily lost by 3 or 4.
