Chelsea Football Club today announces a new technical partnership with Nike, which represents the largest commercial deal in the club’s history.

The long-term agreement will see Nike, the world’s leading sports footwear and apparel company, become the official kit supplier beginning with the 2017/18 season. Nike will produce strips for the first team, Academy and Ladies teams, as well as a full range of clothing for Chelsea’s millions of supporters around the world.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: ‘This is an incredibly exciting and important deal for the club. Like Chelsea, Nike is known around the world for its excellence and innovation and we look forward to working together in what is sure to be a successful partnership. We believe Nike will be able to support our growth into new markets as well as helping us maintain our place among the world’s elite football clubs.’

Trevor Edwards, President of the Nike Brand, said: ‘Chelsea is a world-class club with a rich tradition and passionate fans across the globe.

‘The partnership with Chelsea reinforces our leadership position in football. We are excited to help grow the club’s global reach, serving players and supporters with Nike innovation and design.’

According to this the new Nike deal is worth £60m per season. This is a substantive improvement on our old £30m/season deal with Adidas (according to this).

Based on the latter link, we would/will have the second-best kit deal in the world. It also claims that the following deals are in place: (bolded implies up for renewal/likely to be renegotiated in the next couple of seasons):

Man Utd - Adidas - 75m/season (2015 - 10 years)

Chelsea - Nike - 60m/season (2016 - 15 years)

Bayern - Adidas - 42.5m/season (2015 - 15 years)

Real Madrid - Adidas - 34m/season (2012 - 8 years)

Chelsea - Adidas - 30m/season (2013 - 10 years)

Arsenal - Puma - 30m/season (2014 - 5 years)

Barcelona - Nike - 28m/season (2008 - 10 years)

Liverpool - Warrior - 25m/season (2012 - 6 years)

Juventus - Adidas - 20m/season (2016 - 6 years)

AC Milan - Adidas - 19m/season (2013 - 10 years)

PSG - Nike - 19m/season (2013 - 9 years)

Man City - Nike - 15m/season (2013 - 6 years)

With this deal from kit related sponsorships alone we will earn £110m per year.

Good business by the club although the 15 year deal is curious.

Barca will soon announce their new deal with nike - 100m euro per season, and real madrid with adidas should have agreed around 140m euro per year

Don't know when they will announce it tho, maybe by  the end of this season or maybe earlier. The news have been there since spring.

Financially it makes sense, but I just hate Nike as a brand. From Umbro to Nike via Adidas in ten years (or so). Ugh...

60 million X 15 years?  That's a lot.

It might be now but think about it- if we're stuck with that deal for 15 years and all other top clubs renew their deals in that period to get deals in excess of £60 mil, which will most likely happen, then we'll be stuck at the back of the queue till we can renegotiate or cancel the deal

Imagine we finish 10th for the next 5 years

I highly doubt it will be fixed at 60m for the full 15 years. Many people are reporting the deal will have renegotiation clauses. If not, we just buy out the deal like we did with Adidas and double the money again.

The club negotiates a deal that brings in the best of a billion pounds to the club and there are still fans who complain.

A billion quid.

A BILLION!

Modern football fans summed up perfectly in one sentence unfortunately.

Modern day fans tch only £100,000,000 000 i used to pay 10 shillings to stand in the shed end.

It really is a massive deal, reading that though seems to suggest that Nike paid our get out fee, or did i read it wrong?

I'm not complaining in the slightest, I'm glad the club has secured such an immense amount of money I'm just considering potential drawbacks to the deal. Don't be so quick to judge

Apologies if it has been the topic of conversation before. How do you feel about Nike getting the new kit deal (obviously it is something you have to suck up)?. Now I need to put my Son's Diego Costa Chelsea home and away kit in the charity bag, and wait for the Nike Tat that we had to endure at my team for years. Congratulations on the title this year BTW.
