January 22, 20179 yr Crucial win. Tough going second half and I expected us to concede with Hull dominating, but we kept them out and sealed the game thanks to Cesc and Cahill. Cesc was excellent when he came on. He's making the most of his chances and is a vital player for us. I know his lack of pace is something that can,'t be rectified but he makes a huge contribution with his attitude, intelligence, creativity and workfare.
January 22, 20179 yr I was impressed by Hull today, a great win for us. But the commentary..'blah blah blah penalty blah blah Hull unlucky blah blah blah penalty blah'
January 22, 20179 yr Cesc came on and dictated the game, pure class, some sublime passing. Needs to start in the big games
January 22, 20179 yr A fairly middling performance against a well-drilled Hull side. Marco Silva is a quality manager so his Hull side giving us a tough fight was not a surprise. If Liverpool play like they did against Swansea they'll likely suffer another reverse, but I expect them to be fired up against us. Our performance wasn't that great, but theirs was worse. They'll also be missing Sadio Mane, who IMO is one of their best players. I reckon we should play a 3-5-2 against them to prevent them from overpowering us in midfield with their hyperactive pressing style the way Tottenham managed to and give us a shot at dictating terms. I'm not too worried about Arsenal, especially playing at Stamford Bridge. This season they often haven't looked all that convincing (*cough* Burnley *cough*) and they rarely play particularly well at Stamford Bridge. They will most likely play a fairly open style and not press as aggressively as Liverpool, so we can just play 3-4-3 and pick them off on the counter. Willian is very good in those types of games. Overall, I must say this weekend was a big success. Swansea overturned Liverpool at Anfield, while Man City, Tottenham and Man U were all cancelled out. Only Arsenal got all 3 points, and that was a ref-induced win at home against much weaker opposition. Edited January 22, 20179 yr by DaRick
January 22, 20179 yr Great match and an even greater result. Fair play to Hull, gave us one if our hardest challenges this season. Our midfield seemed to get a bit overrun in the second half but Tibo took care of the shop. Liked Cesc's class for the last 20 minutes, thought Moses was great and I love it ( who doesn't) when Diego scores.
January 22, 20179 yr It is these games were you have to grind out and win. There is no easy game In this league. I think a lot of the bottom clubs will be fighting now for their lives. To avoid the drop. As we are nearing the final quarter of the season. hull were always gonna be up for it, with the "new manger" syndrome in affect. Our next two games against Liverpool and Arsenal will possibly determine our destiny "possibly." If we manage to get a point at anfield and a win at home to Arsenal. I would be more than happy. overall though we need to perform way. Better than today as we looked pretty awful in that 2nd half. I think fabregas is made for games like these. And that's why I was hoping he would start.
January 22, 20179 yr Not the best game or performance but we got the three points. Must player better than that when we travel to Anfield a week on Tuesday though.

January 22, 20179 yr The sign of a champion is to know how to win , even if the performance is not great
January 22, 20179 yr every title winning side has games like that - come May they are a distant memory. We got through it, we won, nobody got hurt or sent off = result.
January 22, 20179 yr I wonder when it's all over if we'll look back on this game as the pivotal moment of the season, in particular the Alonso foul where we dodged a pen? At 1-1 I would not have fancied us to get it back, the momentum could have shifted massively in their favour. Then we go onto Liverpool and Arsenal on the back of a bad result at home against a relegation side.... matters not now though, 8 points clear. I'll take an ugly win over glorious failure all day every day.
January 22, 20179 yr As has been said, forget the performance and lap up the 3 points !! when you do not play that great and still get them that is a proper result !! bring on the scouse, can you imagine the buzz if we turn them f**kers over in their own back yard !!
January 22, 20179 yr Job done. Sides That win titles get results when not playing well. Now we can go to anfield knowing if we avoid defeat we have picked up a very good result.
January 22, 20179 yr the trip to Anfield is interesting - it's must win for them but it's also must not lose for them.i'm not sure Klopp knows how to set them up to keep the game tight, I can see us soaking them up and hitting them on the counter
January 22, 20179 yr Absolutely horrible news emerging that Mason is fighting for his life right now with fractured skull and brain bleeding. Pull through lad! Praying he gets through that.

January 22, 20179 yr Let's be honest, it wasn't a good performance, I'd say 6/10. After taking the lead, we just let the game drift, missed too many passes, had some clumsy touches ( e.g. Alonso's late tackle), and let them got back into the game. Like many previous game, when under pressing, our midfielders ( especially Matic) just couldn't pass it out or hold on the ball. Hull couldn't punish us, but Spurs did when they put us under pressure, and I'm sure Liverpool and Arsenal will get some joy in the upcoming games. I still maintain we should have picked Cesc for a game like this. On the positive side, we got the win despite playing poorly, the same couldn't be said about Liverpool and United. Costa is playing the way he's been playing all season, scoring the goal and keeping his focus on the game. Conte made the right change at the right time, big call to take Hazard off, but Cesc delivered when he came on.
