The Costa we had for the first 4 months of the season was fantastic, that is the Costa i want to keep. If we are going to get the Costa that goes missing for the other half of the season, then i would rather we upgraded. It's a tough choice, especially when you consider how hit and miss strikers tend to be. So many top strikers move clubs and end up looking bang average and struggle to score goals. We may be able to find a striker that links up better with wingers and midfield, but that same striker may struggle to find the net enough.

This is my main point when you have a 20 goal a season striker it's insanely risky to sell him and hope the next guy will live up to him, could ruin your season, so if you can, you keep him, best compromise bring in a big striker anyway let them fight for their place, if he comes good sell diego next summer, or even January if he isn't happy fighting for his place, but in no case can we afford to sell our 2 league winning striker who has 11 league goals more that drogs in their first 3 seasons on teh hope we can upgrade him, torres was an upgrade remember...

Upgrade how?

I hear the Lukakus mentioned but they are no upgrade to me. On Costa 's best day he is several levels above Lukaku on his. Both have the same shortcoming to me. Brutal at holding the ball up and dribbling at players.

Id only sell Costa if we could get a Aubemyang type name who has it all. Sadly they are few and far between so for now id keep Diego and add Lukaku or someone if that's all we can get.

This poll started because of a debate between myself @Barrettinator and @didierforever although more people want him to stay and appreciate what he has done I'm genuinely surprised how many people want him gone, thought this would be a landslide, so fair play, I strongly disagree and think @ForeverCarefree summed it up perfectly, but I recognise there is a strong opposing viewpoint amongst some of our forum, interesting stuff, we will see how the manager feels in the coming weeks.

Thanks mate.

Btw, I and most fans, get your point of view. Costa has been quite good for us. Its just that his attitude and the current negativity regarding his transfer is an absolute no deal. As for the quality, I think we are going on past history way too much. The price tag of Sheva and Torres, was a massive let down for them, something which wont be a problem in today's market, where John Stones is worth 50mil. Also, we are looking at players before their prime or in their prime. Torres/sheva were players past their prime, with injury concerns.

Anyways, my point simply was, that there wont be a chelsea fan who wont be thankful to Diego for his services. BUT, if we can sell him for massive money, buy a striker/forward as good or better (Antoine, Lukaku, Morata, Sanchez, Auba,Lacazette) then I would take it.

A lot of fans are scared, because of Torres and Sheva failures. But there was a lot of things behind this failures. The manager play huge role, as well as the style.

We played some style and buy Torres, who was a player for totally different style of play. That was one of the reasons behind his failure. And our period wasn`t so great. Okay we win CL, but our game was not impressive. Torres was too much isolated from the game and when he recieve the ball, he was cold and not use to the ball and was making easy mistakes. And there was a lot of minutes, where his teammates didn`t create a good chances to him for scoring and he started to lose confidence and so on.

Also he have an injury when he was at Liverpool, and his form drops quite a bit, as well as his accelerating. And he could not outrun defenders so easily like he do it before. And back then we didn`t play a style that suit Torres. Not enough through balls for him as well. He was not the striker we needed and use to play with. He was totally different, for different style. Also he never trully integrated to the team. No symbiosis between him and the team. Sum all this and you have Torres failure.

But that doesn`t mean we will fail with almost every quality striker we get. Lukaku best year is yet to come, he develop and progress year after year and getting better and better.

Just like i posted, Costa at Lukaku age was no near at Lukaku level, not to mention, Lukaku already have 3x time more goals then Costa at that age.

So you have absolutely zero proof, that Lukaku will fail, as well as he is not an upgrade to Costa.

And just like i said it before. Costa problem was not only that he wanted to go to China and lose desire to play. His form dropped drastically. He also lose some speed/acceleration. For god sake can`t you see this ? Even Per Mertesacker ( who is one of the slowest in the PL) was outrunning him. For god sake he was injure almost all season long and didn`t play whole season, and he did this to Costa. And we expect to cope with the best in the CL with a poor technique striker, who can`t stop the ball properly and can`t outrun defenders, cause he is slow ....

And some of you prize him for scoring 1 goal against prone injury team like Arsenal ? He should have scored a hattrick there. He should have eaten Arsenal.

And did you remember the match in the premier league ? When Costa fu*** all of our efforts and we beat them only 3-1, but all thanks to him, if he was not playing, we would have beated them 6-0.

Sorry but im just tired of him and all the drama about him, thats hurt the team as well. He is also at age and should go now. Just 1 more year with us, and he will need to be replaced and we will not take more then 10mln. for him.
And is there any guarantee that Costa form will be back anytime soon ? Is there any guarantee that he won`t start moaning all over again in the middle of the season ? He is doing sh** with 3 different managers, he needs to go.

For me Costa carries a greater risk then Lukaku.

Sell him.

I was a fan of selling him to China because i felt the money that was being talked about was too good to turn down.

But since that has gone away, i'd rather see him stay. I'd like to see us add another striker anyway but in the end, i would still like to keep him around whether he's a starter or not. For all his faults, you still cannot find many players that are better than him that are even available. His goals won us more games than any other player in this team or any other team in the league this year and even when he doesn't score, he's always causing problems (for defences).

In my opinion he's been a fantastic player for the club. Articles about him wanting out by the media don't even bother me, i'm only interested in what he does on the pitch and while he's not perfect and has his flaws, he always fights for the club.

Diego Costa to sign new Chelsea contract: 70 percent

"The striker came close to joining Tianjin Quanjian in January but was deemed too valuable in the race to win the Premier League to leave during the season. Then, it felt like the move would be simply postponed until the summer, but after patching things up with Antonio Conte, Costa is intrigued by the possibility of making a deep Champions League run -- it also helps that Chelsea are willing to offer a lucrative, three-year extension -- and there is momentum for him to stay at Stamford Bridge."

David Amoyal

Atleti's transfer ban has been upheld. Looks like he could be staying as they wont be able to make transfers this summer.

What I see happening is this .. Costa signing for Atleti in Jan when they can register players again. So I think we will prepare and start the season with Diego as 2nd striker. Just depends who we can get instead. I think we would be brain dead  not to go for Lacazette.. forget aubameyang it's never happening.

Exactly my sentiment. Whilst we all love guile and have had some of the most delicately tidy attacking footballers in the premier league and or Roman era, we've been our most potent and successful with the presence of a brutish striker at our helm. Having said that I'm not fixated on the idea that this is our only route to success, I'm merely saying that we shouldn't overlook and progress to another striker than Costa whimsically and the best outcome (in my opinion) this summer is if we keep him and add another top striker hopefully.

Sorry but that's complete rubbish .. you can't keep two strikers happy in  one striker system you simply can't .. 1 thrives of the competition and plays every week and one sulks and just plays the odd cup game and then wants to leave and then eventually leaves for way less than what they would of had we not pussy footed around in the first place. I loved Costa and wouldn't of even though about replacing him.but his childish attitude, constantly talking about leaving, constantly gesturing at the Chelsea fans when he scores after having some stick of them for months of bad form just gets under my skin and he can f**k off. I'm 27 and I found that video of him doing chin ups and messing with the fire extinguisher in conte's interview just pathetic and attention seeking. I follow him on instagram and on his instagram story earlier in the season when he was on fire was always posts of him in his home gym training and it really shone through in his performances. Then post xmas we all know what happened and guess what ? The vids of training stopped. He has downed tools mid season TWO YEARS IN A ROW, I don't want to rely on someone like that

Journalists are still reporting that Diego Costa is on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid, how you can be a sports journalist and not even understand that Atletico Madrid have a transfer ban is beyond me, increcible. As for selling him in January, how stupid do they think we are? Let's keep him as our top striker and then sell him as soon as Januray hits, then hunt around in desperation for a replacement, sure.

What will happen if he start doing the same s*** in the January once again ? Cause that is very possible to happen if Atletico decide they want him in the Jannuary or someone deicde to put interest in him.

He said many times he doesn`t like England and many times shows that he is not very smart and very reliable.

So we are going to have half season playing 10 men once again ? But this time it won`t have a happy ending. Not to mention we will playing CL football as well.

Costa is so deadly and unpredictable. I`m not even sure we will get the the first half of the season Costa. His form seem dropped so much. Can he even get it back.

Far better to just sell him now and get the replacement and not to worry about if he won`t doing the same sh** all over again.

If he not want to be sold, then tell him you will do with him the same with Malouda and he will freely want a way out of the club.

DonAntonio, you see now, twice as many people want him to Go, then to stay.

As most people already knew, the Chinese buying spree is coming to an end. We won't be getting the 70M by selling him, I rather keeping him in that case. He has his issues, but hopefully he will mature with age. When he's on form, he score goals, can't argue against that. Most strikers run into a goal drought at some stage in the season, I don't think it's fair to compare his worst against Lukaku's best.

Interesting if true though. I'm not even sure how that would work.

Atletico won't give us the fee we are looking for, or will they?

How about this, agree to sell to atletico but Diego has to agree to go on loan to a Chinese club until that deal in January. Maybe we can get a good loan fee to add to his wages being covered to buffer what we get from atletico.

It's beyond comprehension, some in the press were adamant that he was leaving last Jan, of coarse he stayed and they looked ridiculous. Let's say he's on fine form, all of sudden it's Januray and we have no one to replace him with, it's nuts, either he guarantees the club a full season, or we bring someone else in.

Hopefully Arsene gets a £50 mill transfer kitty and spends £40 mill on Costa.

I'd happily drive him to the Death Star Stadium myself.

He is Premier League proven and would be a significant upgrade on Giroud. I'm not denying the talent of Morata or Lacazette, but some players need a season to bed in, two in Drogba's case, I wouldn't be so keen to sell him.

For the past year....Costa and his Agent have been pissing off everyone at Chelsea by releasing selfish and childish spoilt brat type statements to the media about how much he is worth and how much he loves Madrid.............well enough is enough......I think the general consensus is that he can piss off to the highest bidder .....But I stress only when it is the right timing for Chelsea FC .....Which obviously means when and only when Chelsea have recruited a New Centre forward to take his place......and if that dosnt happen, despite our best efforts to bring in a replacement.....then Costa will remain a Chelsea player until his contract expires.   / Chelsea FC is more important than any player.

If loves Madrid so much, then he can go and sit on the bench at Real Madrid.......as long we get  a shed load of dosh, I couldn't give a Fukc where he goes!

Whosoever wears a blue shirt should play with passion, love and pride. I don´t see that. When we get a reasonable price for him, we should sell him. Bats should play next season and a striker from the Toffees is not urgently required at all.

If Bats fails, we can easily play like we did this season with Eden in the centre. Didn´t we win those matches?
