We officially have an incompetent board

Featured Replies

maybe people should wait until the window is closed today before we can comment on the window being a success. yes things could have been done earlier, but if we sign 3/4 players before the window closes today people will have no reason to moan.

Really? And what if the end of the season, we are far away from the first spot, out of the CL early and Conte pack his luggage?

Should be happy with that then ? Or once again will be manager, excuse me the "coach" fault?

Complaining in June/July is silly.

From 1st of August is when I would complain.

Complaining in June/July about this particular board is different to me. Not out of place. They've proven they can piss about until late in the window.

Look at our net spend. Yet we're penny pinching for every deal. Amazing.

Oh yeah and just as a reminder, we made:

£120m in sales

£153m for winning the league

£100m from Nike and Yokohama

Total = £373m from 16/17.

We had a chance to spend big this summer and upgrade the squad for the next 5+ years. If we had done so with quickness and intent, we'd only need to spend the odd £30m-£60m here and there every summer for the next few years. But just like 2015, they Marina & co had to f**k it up again. I'm really upset today.

If there was consistency at least it would make sense, but there isn't. They faff around over the odd 4-5 million here and there and lose out on deals, but then are happy to offer 40m for an average player with 1 year on his deal. None of it makes any sense.

Disagree.

I don't think leaving such a large amount of business to be concluded to the last day is a competent or sustainable model.

There is nothing wrong with fans wanting better from the club both on and off the pitch, especially in a summer where we've lost at least two of our targets to rival clubs.

Same board that has given us the players to win 2 titles in 3 yrs and could've been 3 in 3 if Mourinho didn't have a break down. Yeah real sh*t. If our board is incompetent then other clubs boards must be really sh*t then.

We still have a very good first 11 and obviously what we're looking for are good back ups. Even if we don't get the ones we need this team is still good enough to win the league and go further in Europe.

So in your honest opinion

- The board had nothing to do with us having to play with Torres, Eto'o & Ba in 13/14 which handicapped our title challenge despite being in the mix? (Could have been 4 in 4 ya know?)

- The board had nothing to do with the 15/16 meltdown?

- You see absolutely no need for us to upgrade our first 11? Reckon it's a CL winning first 11? (And please don't mention the 11/12 squad)

- You feel we should measure ourselves to fellow English teams who have been shambolic in Europe for about 6 years now rather than trying to measure up to Real/Bayern/Barca? Even Barca are being roasted to bits by their fans this summer for losing Neymar and they still have a better team than we do.

This mentality is what will keep us in the "1 title every 3 years plus QF appearances and the odd SF appearance" state rather than absolutely dominating English football and legitimately challenging Europe's elite and perhaps winning the CL again. You don't think this mentality reeks of mediocrity (by CFC 2003-2013 standards)? No offense to you personally btw. Just genuinely curious.

Still £127m short for that stadium. Ha.

the entitlement is jaw dropping

Wanting your club to do better is entitlement? Genuinely irritating to see opinions like this tbh. And if I may indulge you, why shouldn't fans feel entitled? The club is nothing without fans. TV money, matchday tickets, everything is possible because of fans. Please save it.

If it's players of the standard of Llorente (obviously not him now apparently) and Drinkwater, then I'd still complain because I expect better.

squad players like Ramires and Mikel were of a higher standard.

we have done absolutely amazing over the years and one or two less than perfect windows doesn't change that. nobody can complain we haven't signed quality players this window. okay so we haven't got a few targets, but we aren't talking about missing out on the best players in the world ffs, it's ox and llorente.

To be honest I would put Drinkwater in there with Ramires and Mikel. All can do a job but all distinctly average (bar Ramires goal against Barca of course!)

like who? who do we sign that is of high quality who will be happy to sit on the bench as a 3rd of 4th choice? players generally move because they have a chance of playing regular football. we have a top quality first team. i agree depth quality could be slightly better, but it's not a travesty to be targeting drinkwater quality of player as 4th choice.

Sanches is going on loan to Swansea... SWANSEA!! Perfect fit, we're playing across four competitions this year, against Spurs won't be the last time we see a five man midfield, there would be plenty of opportunities for a 3rd or 4th choice CM at Chelsea. I agree to an extent but the amount of money that's being quoted for distinctly average players is astounding. Ox was the perfect example 40m?! I've seen 35m for Drinkwater quoted? Never in a million years should we be paying that for average footballers, in my opinion.

Mikel, now there was a world-class talent and an impeccable servant to the club.

Nibs, I knew you would come round one day!

not too bothered about Llorente, gives Mitchy a chance to play some games and hopefully keeps him sharp

Michy does not need game time and sharpness. He needs coaching to make him good enough for Chelsea. He is terrible as a lone striker.

Pretty much most the big clubs in Europe and in England are still frantically trying to do last minute deals but apparently only our board is incompetent  because they didn't tie up all the deals by end and of June. I had no idea it was that easy to tie up multi million dollar contracts.

What other big clubs? Are Madrid trying to do business today? Bayern? Juve? The only business Barca are trying to do is Coutinho and the only reason they're still in the market this late is because of the unexpected Neymar departure. Even City don't really need to do business. Sanchez would be a luxury signing for them. United are done as well. Who are we comparing ourselves to? Liverpool? Come on.
