September 1, 20178 yr i am not willing to harshly critique marina because people often forget when she/the board make good signings. she's not perfect, but no club is perfect when it comes to signings. you only have to go back to the days of woodgate at real madrid or more recently barca with paulinho and gomes to show that even the best clubs in the world make poor signings. i think she/the board have made some good signings in terms of quality of players.
September 1, 20178 yr Exactly, the board and Roman don't owe us anything. Roman has spent millions on us and given us so much joy. Things are slightly different now and we are no longer the rich kids on the block and we have different things to think about. But we are still so blessed. Weve spent like £180m this Summer. A club record. If thats not enough and if transfer windows make people that angry then I would suggest that they switch their support to another club that fulfils their spending criteria.
September 1, 20178 yr I'm glad we signed 2 players last night, imagine if we didn't. After the past few years, I'm not going to get my hopes up for a great summer. I'll just accept we'll be signing squad players unless something substantial happens like Matic and Costa leaving.
September 1, 20178 yr Agreed enigma and bjd. People do forget the good work that got us Courtois, Costa, Fabregas, Willian, Kante and others. We've made some mistakes this summer, most specifically the failure to deals early enough but we can't complain. We may go back a little this season but we're building a great base for the long term. One good window and we will be right in the thick of it at the top end of Europe again.
September 1, 20178 yr I think what annoys me more is leaving it so late to secure 4 signings. It's too late and leaves us so vulnerable. I get that leaving it late can reduce the price but when we HAVE to sign players, we need to get them earlier. I cant imagine Conte being happy going in with Bats as second striker. We should have secured Llorente sooner.

We should have secured Llorente sooner. Their fault this summer was selling without getting replacements in first and taking too long to get the replacements in. The uncertainty of it all is what made emotions run high, in hindsight and looking at it objectively, this was an ok window and each person in our squad can do a job and provide options other than just mere backup. The quality of our bench isn't that good but they aren't bad either

Not particularly good at anything other than tweeting and as thing stands he'll have to start many games for us this season which will cost us points. And while our main rivals have plenty of options up front we practicly have one good striker which is not enough for 60 games. From september 9th to september 30th we play 7 hugely important games in the league, cup and champions league. Morata will not be able to start 7 games in 21 days so clearly Michy will have to start. Can't say i look forward too it. Batshuayi is not up to starting for us but to call him pathetic in this league is harsh. He would score 15+ league goals starting for any side from Everton and below. Llorente was a blow I agree. I don't expect Bats to start in big games if Morata is unavailable. I am sure Costa will choose to move other pieces around, move Cesc forward and have Pedro or Hazard as the front man for example. If Morata is unavailable for Stoke at home then those are the only type of games i'd expect to see Bats start.

Yes the likelihood of that happening is about 0.05% but we should have spent another £100m in transfers and tied ourselves to another £20m a year in wages to insure ourselves in case it happened! DAMN IT WE'RE DOOMED!!! ARSENAL IN BLUE THAT'S WHAT WE ARE NOW!!! AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!

September 1, 20178 yr I think this has the potential to be remembered as quite a good summer window, all things considered. The vast majority of us would've been fine with a Matic for Bakayoko swap on last season's performances, and with the transfer fees effectively identical that's what it is. Costa severed his ties so his exile/exit was inevitable. There were very few high quality strikers available and I'd argue with Morata we have every chance of having brought in the best one. We've brought in much needed depth in defence with Rudiger fitting in well so far and Christensen putting in an excellent shift against Spurs. Zappacosta looks very capable of challenging for the RWB position, and Drinkwater comes in as an experienced hard-working all-rounder to give us another option in central midfield. There weren't many players available that would realistically improve our 11 from the start. I don't think we paid over-the-odds for anyone and we haven't forked out massive wage packets for the sake of it. We're starting this season in a stronger position than we did last year (admittedly our squad was small then, and very much in need of multiple reinforcements), we've broken our transfer record, and we've done it all relaitvely quietly behind the noise of the Manchester clubs' intakes. Time will tell, but I think we're looking good, and amazingly for current Champions we're flying under the radar, which tends to be when we succeed. I think this could be a very good season for us.

Pretty good outlay in my eyes. Spending money isn't the only sign of ambition Unfortunately for a certain section of our fans it is, ironically they are often the same fans who moan about us not using enough of our young talent. figure that out.

September 1, 20178 yr the way costa performed second half of last season we mostly played with out a recognized striker !! and still won the league

September 1, 20178 yr Doesn't the loan window shut a bit later, or has that stopped now. I know as a club we are a bit too egotistical to go in for loanees, but I was just wondering whether a back up striker from Europe or South America could be brought in on loan as cover, if one could be found.

September 1, 20178 yr Only City spent more than us in the transfer window, we did improve the team with the first 3 signings. Of course, we could have done better, but it's a tough market out there. Players have so much choosing power, I'd never imagine 2 players turned us because of personal terms or mysterious medical reason. Everyone who played 2 hours of FM believe they could have done a better recruiting job, but this is not a game. Lots of things been said in this thread are equivalent of what's being said on Arsenal Fan Tv, and they'd wish they had our incompetent bunch. Like some said before, Roman own us nothing, if he says sale before buy, we should just not and say Yes Sir.
September 1, 20178 yr 2015 transfer market was just incredibly unnecessary. However this is different, I think we have a strong squad, maybe we do lack the rotation in width like City and United but we have a team with a lot of players who've won two Premier League titles together. A lot of transition has gone into this side, a lot of work, they're disciplined and know what they're doing. Let's not get too carried away, Drinkwater is an average player in my eyes I accept any criticism on that signing. And the only thing I don't like about Zappacosta is his mustache, besides that, I think he's a good player that'll probably end up starting more games than not. It's annoying that we keep getting rejected by so many players, but Ox & Barkley are hardly people you'll lose sleep over really let's be fair. But I do think we need to up our game in the transfer market, what happened to the 2014 summer when we snapped up Cesc & Costa early? Why don't we do those deals anymore? City did some excellent business early on this season, it always helps to snap up the players early. Edited September 1, 20178 yr by Slojo
