November 6, 20178 yr With all the negativity online about him being incompetent and calling him names, i thought it was time to at the very least appreciate what he's done for the club and wish him the best of luck in the future. At the end of the day he was part of the club's successful years and our history, so at least deserves to be thanked for what he did no matter what our opinions were of him, positive or negative. His interview with Chelsea TV on his departure from the club. http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/11/chelsea-tv-exclusive--emenalo-on-standing-down.html Edited November 6, 20178 yr by enigma
November 6, 20178 yr Very nice interview... the foundations of the club have strengthened considerably during this period.
November 7, 20178 yr People disrespecting him are so stupid honestly, they have no idea what he's ever done for the club for starters. I went on youtube and watched some videos about Emenalo stepping down and all the top comments with hundreds of likes were Chelsea fans saying "Thank god" "About time" "Great decision I'm so happy"... Why are people so sure Emenalo was making bad decisions at this club? Either way, I think we've had some good years at the club and I'm sure he has been responsible for some success and some negatives. What we can take is that since his appointment as director the youth department has significantly improved, the scouting has been tremendous, we have some great up and coming talent. I actually like our loaning system also, I think it's worked for a lot of players. We've made some tremendous signings since 2011, that was when he was promoted to technical director. Before then we were signing the likes of Shevchenko, Veron, Mutu, Torres, Crespo, Del Horno, Kezman, Boulahrouz, Shaun Wright Phillips... All for big fees during their time and absolute flops, I'm sure I can name more if I really think about it. Since Emenalo has been in charge we haven't made ridiculous signings like that, who has flopped here really? Marko Marin was a pointless buy but he was a bargain, we signed Salah & Cuadrado who are actually good players but we never gave them the chance. Besides those signings, we've made careful and superb transfers. We can only go by what we see, maybe Emenalo didn't purely make all those decisions, who knows, however since he has arrived we've been very short on squad depth which I believe has caught up with us this season and a few other seasons, I think we took a very long time transition from 2011 only to finally get the right team in 2014. Messing about trying to sign Modric only for him to go to Real Madrid, selling Daniel Sturridge when he was 10 times the striker Torres was at the time, selling KDB probably the worst decision we've made since Robben. Other than that, I would give him a good rating, while keeping in mind I could be completely wrong.

November 7, 20178 yr None of us really know how much input Emenalo had in anything. Does he deserve a lot of praise for whatever it was he did or are we well shot of him? Only time will tell. They say that you often don't appreciate something until it's gone. Well if we start losing a lot of our best players and sign a load of poor replacements and slip down the table and don't win anything for the next few seasons, we'll know just how important he was. Somehow, I don't think that's going to happen.

Somehow, I don't think that's going to happen. On the other hand, if we continue to grow and sign great players, we will not be able to infer anything about his importance. It's equally possible that he laid the foundation for success to follow or that he messed up :) The strongest logic here is that a shrewd operator with a great understanding of football and what he wants continued to stick by him and trust his judgement. I think that says a lot more than the half arsed conclusions people here have drawn from incomplete knowledge.
November 7, 20178 yr Departing Chelsea technical director Micheal Emenalo has explained that Andreas Christensengave him the perfect parting gift during his final match with the Blues. Antonio Conte dropped David Luiz for the Dane defender on Sunday and the selection was more than justified as the 21-year-old put in a superb display as Chelsea beat Manchester United 1-0 thanks to an Alvaro Morata header. Christensen has been a product of the Chelsea loan system, championed by Emenalo during his time with the Blues, and Emenalo believes that his performance was the perfect way for him to say goodbye. "Andreas, unbeknown to him, gave me a wonderful parting gift yesterday because his performance is indicative of what development is all about," he told Chelsea TV. "Development equals humility, hard work and timing and Andreas has done all three."

November 7, 20178 yr Nice post Slojo, but I think that you are wrong to include Crespo in the list of flop-signings by Chelsea. He was anything but that. Yes, he did leave due to homesickness, but for his time here, he did good for us. I still remember fondly that goal that he scored in the first game when the score was 1-1 and things were dire, but then he pops up with a long range goal and we win, and then win the league. Was it Watford? I am too lazy to search the Web to find that team's name. Edited November 7, 20178 yr by Phillip Fix typos

Perhaps he wasn't a flop, he was usually quality but for the price we paid at the time and he never played, seemed a pointless bloody transfer. I forgot to add another bad signing to the list, Baba Rahman post 2011. A lot of money for a LB that's never played.
November 7, 20178 yr I also think some of the players were just unlucky, Mutu started well for CFC just a shame about the drugs, Crespo scored some great goals though wasn't able to lead the line like Drogba, Boulahrouz was outstanding in keeping Ronaldinho quiet when we played Barca yet didn't seem to gel with our defenders , can't recall if it was the league being too strong or he just did not get enough playing time to settle. When we look back on some of those signings like Shevchnenko, Torres it was like the rich chap is just listening to his mates and buying on uninformed opinions and expecting any manager to make a team that can win. Did Emenalo change that mentality, I'm not sure he did that alone though he might have. Certainly this season we made strong signings.
November 7, 20178 yr I think a lot of the anti-ME sentiments arose from the 'perception' he got into the club hanging onto Avram Grant's coat tails, compounded 3 years later when Butch was sacked and he was appointed as assistant to Carlo. That aside, he did a very good job in recruitment and development, with the exception of selling KDB and RL . Obviously had enough of being under the intense media spotlight @ CFC and is off to Monaco for some good weather and tax free earnings, good luck to him.

November 27, 20178 yr Now Monaco’s Sports Director. It is now he would be appreciated by Chelsea fans. Congratulations to him. I have feeling he might come back in nearest future. Edited November 27, 20178 yr by rooomage
