February 3, 20188 yr New thread for Alvaro, please keep on topic, thanks. -----------------------------------------------------------------
February 3, 20188 yr There is a player in him, if he can return with confidence it will be a big boost. He really has to toughen up though. All this falling about with even the smallest contact is destroying our play and making him look like a fool.
February 3, 20188 yr Yeah, but could he do it on a wet Wednesday night in the army...... Soz coco, couldn't resist. He is obviously incredibly talented, outstanding the air, great with his back to goal and running at defeat defenders. He has had a real confidence crisis though the past few months, and I think that's down to the general negative funk at the club which conte has helped create. I'm not entirely convinced he's suited to the Premier league though and I just can't see him being here long term. Edited February 3, 20188 yr by dkw

He wouldn’t make a great submariner, every time they gave the order to dive he’d hit the deck! He seems to be an arm around the shoulder type player who needs to feel the love to get his confidence. To me Conte doesn’t seem like an arm around the shoulder kind of coach (pure opinion btw) so maybe we need to step up and sing his name.

How is he guilty of all the media sh*t that some repeat in these forums as if they were the god-given truth? How has he helped to create the negativity? I just don't get it. Let's forget about the media talk and get behind our coach and team. We can't play well and we can have really bad days, but I just don't get all this negativity.

Good point about contes style, I would expect more sergeant major than susie hippy.

His constant talking down of the squad, transfers and fitness levels, plus his own miserable demeanour. If you keep telling a player they aren't good enough or fit enough then you give them an excuse to play down to.
February 3, 20188 yr I've really not heard him talk down our team. He is constantly asked by the media about the players coming and he has been positive about them, Giroud, Barkley, DD, etc It is just boring to hear every single day the same questions by the sh*t media, and he is obviously saying that he has no direct role in the negotiations, but I don't hear him saying they are not good enough. But I haven't heard all his press conferences entirely, so I may be missing something.
February 6, 20188 yr Alvaro Morata OUT !! https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/5503581/chelsea-transfer-news-alvaro-morata-psg/ PSG sporting director Antero Henrique has reportedly made the star one of his top targets.
February 6, 20188 yr You can see he has loads of talent but I think he has some serious mental / confidence issues. This is the first time he has led the line in supposedly one of the best teams in Europe, not just as a sub and perhaps the pressure is too much to bear when things go dry. He was fine in his last game then suddenly has a 'back problem' and has mysteriously disappeared with no indication from Conte of when he expects him to return. He needs to stop flopping around like a fish out of water every time he gets nudged ...this is the EPL where you need some muscle not be a delicate wall flower.
February 6, 20188 yr To be honest I’m so disappointed in him. He’s had time off football because his friend died. Frank Lampard has sent us to champions league final in the same week as he lost his mother.

If psg give us a good deal then am good with selling him.
February 7, 20188 yr A friend of his was killed in a car crash a week or so ago and the club allowed him some time off, according to the Telegraph and other news outlets after doing a bit of googling. But he's injured anyway so he would still have missed the last few matches. 1 hour ago, dansubrosa said: To be honest I’m so disappointed in him. He’s had time off football because his friend died. February 7, 20188 yr I'm still a fan of Morata but he's a player built on confidence. Once there's a more positive vibe around the club and results get going, he'll be scoring again.

Not just show up when things are nice and easy. I wouldn't be against him leaving, depends what our next manager wants.
February 7, 20188 yr I think we can do better but I also think we have other positions that are more important to replace.

I'm sure we can, but with the price of players these days a WC striker will be anywhere between 100-200 million quid...........which we don't seem to have at the moment looking at our latest batch of transfers.
February 7, 20188 yr Actually, looking at our windows, i think we do have the money but we have just been spending it on to many players. I think we have our squad filled right now and we should be looking for quality in the summer, really strengthening 2 or maybe 3 positions with players that will actually come in and play. Not rotation players.

My point was that losing a mother is much more devastating than losing a friend, even though that’s still incredibly difficult. Ive been so negative recently and I don’t like it, but we desperately need Morata to play.

That is why Aubameyang at that price is a steal for Arsenal.

I think injury is the main issue he's not been playing. As for money yes we have it and assets too, but Conte is right we've spent it on average players. We don't have enough to spend like City but we could've bought those crucial 2-3 players who could've made a difference. On selling Morata, I'd say it's way too soon, we need to invest in him and make him a better player, or we'll be making a loss and buying the next guy who may be similar to Morata in terms of quality but cost £20-30m more the next season.

Who? We bought Morata and Bakayoko. Two players that seemed first team quality. You dont buy world class in January of a World Cup year unless someone comes on the market - who did?

I didn't say world class just those who would make a difference, most of the players we signed seemed to have just come back from injury and haven't played for a long time. That being said, if we threw enough money at a single better player instead of buying DW, Baka, Barkley I'm sure we could've got Vidal or Nainggolan.
