Next Chelsea Manager

Who would be your choice as Chelsea manager going into next season? 213 members have voted

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

The mess we are rumoured to be.

No, the mess we are.

The players doesn't even know who their manager will be a month away from the season. Do you think the player think that's ideal?

This is the attitude that has screwed us in the transfer-market the last several years.
"Why buy top class player A or B, when we can save 20 million on signing average option C"

And then the club forgets all about the cost of consequense and believe they did a good job.

Partly. We bought Kanté, Fabregas and Diego Costa for around £30M each which proves that it's still possible to make great deals.

I get where you're going about the fact that we shouldn't be a club that are afraid of spending - because we'll end up missing out on key players, like with Lukaku last summer. I agree with that - 100 %.

But what's different with this scenario is the fact that it all could've been avoided. I'm not saying that it would be the right solution to keep Conte (I genuinely do not believe that would be ideal), but as a business I can realte to the thoughts of the board. £20M simply isn't peanuts. A such amount could save the economy for most clubs outside of the top 5 leagues for years. Even most PL teams are yet to by players for that kind of money.

To look at it from a different perspective - what if the club wasn't spending £20M on letting a manager go and recruiting a new one? Then we could buy a £40-50M player instead of a £20-30M player - for money we would have had 'extra' really.

But yeah - instead of buying players like Drinkwater, Zappacosta, etc. the club could have just bought one great player. A player, that could've improved our starting XI. That's another way of improving solution C or B.

And I do believe we should consider the cost of keeping a manager like Conte. In the end that could turn out even worse than just paying what it takes to get what you want.

Do they not know , or are they rumoured to not know.

edit: All I could find is an article in the sun with no quotes.

Victor Moses and Cesc have both been on camera saying the don't know.

How  do  you know that the players don't know?

And what happens when that "one great player" gets a serious injury and is out for three months?  And we haven't got a squad of usable backups?

Perhaps that might be related to the fact that they are (or were at the time in Vic's case) both in Moscow, one preparing for quite an important football match, and one being a television pundit and all round nice guy.

I've tried to be logical about this situation, but it's seriously beyond a joke now. Conte should be gone, not still here prepping for a new season. It's mental how we could have got Sarri for £8m, but negotiated and negotiated until all these weeks later and we are still hearing stories that Napoli have heard nothing and Lawyers coming out saying the clubs have to talk. If we continue with Conte next season I can't find myself being excited one iota tbh with you, and It will probably turn me off watching us.

I really don't see our situation improving if he stays in charge next season because it's obvious there's players who are not happy with him, and plenty of the fans have criticisms towards his style and game management. The club needs a new direction now, and keeping Conte isn't helping the situation. Sarri will have no club for a season, and who knows we could well lose him over this if another club comes in for him. Could you blame him for going elsewhere?

I don't know if Roman not being in the country and running the club is causing a problem, but things have stagnated since his visa issues it seems. Sick to the back teeth of this nonsense now. There are 4 days until the players supposedly come back for pre-season, and there is no new coach announced. You can't have Conte seeing over pre-season if he isn't going to be the coach, it's absolutely ridiculous. What a mess.

Yeah, or it's because we have been trying to get Sarri since May(!) and we are still not closer to a deal with Napoli.
If anyone still believe all the talk this summer have been unsubstantial rumours and the club is perfectly happy with keeping Conte on board they should wake up and join the real world.

We know there are negotiations, confirmed by Napoli's lawyer. So the players are clearly as confused as all of us are. There is no clarity, no urgency and no plan at this club.
We don't even have a DOF yet, stadium is scrapped, no new contracts for star players, no signings, no new manager, and no manager at all at Cobham for the players that have already returned for pre-season!

I never said we shouldn't have ANY usable backups. As well I simply stated that this was another way of improving from option B or C - instead of just buying option A and B+C.

I've had the same thought (about Romans VISA and the entire management situation). Hopefully there's more clarity about it all before monday.

If that is a legit issue then not sure how it will be resolved. I mean surely it has to have an impact on a club when the owner cannot even oversee the goings on within his company?

I would love the person who agreed to that contract from within Chelsea to be the one who signs off my work expenses

Reading that Times article, and I am not going to hit the Quote button because it takes up too much space, but I am the only one that thinks as a club and at a board level, somebody has to be questioning those that have been constructing contracts here. On the back of a league championship in a year when we were not involved in Europe whilst all of our competitors were we agreed to enrich Conte's contract to end up to continue paying him for an additional full year if we sacked him, along with paying off all of his staff etc. Good grief have we learned nothing from previous contracts.
No wonder the guy has been po-faced all season with his go on and sack me attitude. A fully paid holiday for a year, with no stress, a chance to recharge the batteries. All he had to do was to play his hand out in front of the press so it made him look the victim and the penny pinching club ambitionless and undermining. Christ how could they not see that scenario. A multi million pound organization and they don't have a Risk Manager? Jesus!

Mbappe me thinks

Seems like Ronaldo is set for Juve. Almost every good journalist in Spain and Italy are reporting the same thing.
Wonder if Real will go for Hazard now? Would be a good time for them to approach him with the mess we are.

All absurd.

Abramovic is not in London, but  everyone knows that Granoskaia can do many things in the place of Abramovic.

And for sure both of them are able to speak on the phone, so Abramovic is completely free to communicate to Marina hisown wishes.

So what is the problem? Money? Unlikely.

Sarri and all new players he is asking for? I think so.

I 100% thought you were quoting your own post until I got to the end there.

I like it, more people should do it. Change it up, confuse the people. We need more confusion.

“A number of my media friends have attempted to speak with Chelsea this week, but they’ve declined to make any comment at all on the manager situation.

My view, if Conte is staying, they’d state that fact. I simply can’t see that as being an option.” Simon Phillips

To be fair, we don't have a squad of usable backups right now.

@JM7 OR, If Conte is going, they'd state that fact.  OR,  they won't talk to journalists who will twist and distort anything that IS said for their own paper's agenda.

I would rather we risk buying one great player and have no backups then buy five players who are not usable backups like we have done. At least with the former you have one good player to make a difference.

The club would have put out a statement by now saying Conte is staying for the season if he was. Maybe he'll have to because we can't make a deal happen for our new manager but it has very clearly never been the intention.
It's not more than a week ago or so Hazard said he'll have to see "what happens with the manager situation" before he decides on his future.

Does that not imply he simply doesn't know yet to you? And the same with Victor Moses and Cesc's comments?

It is not life and death!

If Sarri comes then so be it. If not, then we have Conte.

If Conte stays then Eden, Willian, and Tibo might all leave.  If Sarri comes, they might all leave anyway.  Whatever happens, if all the players stay or go,  Chelsea will still be here. We are not going to be relegated, and even if we are, we will still be there to watch and support the team in the championship! Ultimately, it does'nt matter.

Worst case scenario, we go a few years without winning anything. I guarantee it wont be as long without a trophy as when I first started supporting the club in the late 80s (Not counting the zenith data cup!)...big deal if we dont win anything!

I remember wanting Dave Webb to stay as Chelsea manager, then Hoddle came. I wanted Hoddle to stay, then Ruud came. I wanted Ruud to stay, then Luca came. There will always be managers and players come and go. What will be will be. None of us know what will happen, the club will not comment on speculation, and the media and "in the knows" will regurgitate rubbish to sell papers and get publicity.

Lets wait and see, and judge the club at the end of the season.

Equally, the club would have put out a statement by now saying he was leaving if he definitely was.

And, yes, it is more than a week ago that Hazard said that.   Wasn't it an interview with Gabby Logan well before the World Cup  started when she tried desperately to goad him into saying something bad or negative about Conte, the club and his future in order to create a story??

And, if the Chelsea PR people have got any value at all, they will have spent a great deal of time and trouble coaching all the players and staff to be non-committal in any press interview, and everything said in every interview I have seen says that they are sticking to that.

Maybe we’re not planning on having a manager at all next year.

I think Romans that pissed off with having to pay off failed managers, that he doing away with them completely.

The players could sort out team selection and tactics between themselves.
