Next Chelsea Manager

Who would be your choice as Chelsea manager going into next season? 213 members have voted

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

Some people seem to think Sarri have spent the last month identifying targets, analysing the squad, drawing up the training sessions for pre-season. All without being paid a dime by us. Maybe he has, but i wouldn't excactly be surprised if he's just enjoying his summer on a beach somewhere and is leaving all that stuff for when/if he actually gets hired.

Rumours circulated are that there is already friction between Sarri and Marina on transfers. Sarri wants Mertens apparently we want Pulisic of Dortmund. In this case I would take Pulisic all day.

I have a feeling Conte will stay on for next season and will do really well just to prove a point before he departs.

Unpopular opinion: Pulisic is overrated by the American bloggers/tweeters. He's a tidy player but in my view doesn't have a real x factor.

Not saying we should pay for Mertens but spending large sums on Pulisic would be unwise in my view.

To think, we could have just paid the paltry release clause weeks ago. He'd be our manager, he'd be nicely settled at Cobham, he'd be analysing videos of the players, etc etc, but no, we had to haggle over peanuts, as is our wont, and we've now seriously handicapped ourselves going into the new season. The whole thing is a joke, there is so much uncertainty around our club, you really have to wonder about the fools that run our club. No-one can defend the present situation. It is totally indefensible.

It wasnt that long ago we paid over double the €8m to release avb from his contract.

Even 6 months ago, we paid more than €8m to Ross Barkley agent to bring in a player we didn't even need.

Sarri or Conte should've been at Cobham this week, looking at the returning loanees, and seeing if they can do tribute this season.

We are in uncharted territory now, the latest we have changed managers was AVB and that was on the 22nd June.

How many top clubs have appointed a manager this late? Especially with the window closing earlier.

Very strange. I wouldn't be surprised to see conte back on Monday.

Mirror reporting that it will be announced before the weekend as Chelsea want it done before Monday when players start to return.

Make of it what you will..

Ironically, Juve when they replaced Conte with Allegri.

If nothing happens then fans who spend their hard earned cash should vote with their pockets if they are not happy.

Since middle of last season I was "Meh" about the whole situation simply because we do this every other season it seems so it's what being a CFC fan is.

Knowing our record we will appoint the new manager late rush some signings then end up winning the league or Europa league that's the emotions this club puts you through.

Then have another poor season because we didn't back the manager........sigh!!!!!!!!

What record, because we have literally never ever done that, ever. So it's hardly a record is it.

Yeah Alfredo guy saying it will be done in the next 24-36 hours. But he also added that a “summons” might happen on Sunday - not sure what that’s about.

Urgh...come on!

From the Times (subscription required, but I have one):

I’m still the boss, Antonio Conte tells Chelsea in new row

Antonio Conte has clashed with Chelsea over pre-season plans and the date the players are due to resume training even though he is not expected to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Times has learnt that a member of Chelsea’s technical staff emailed the players who have not been at the World Cup asking them to report to the club’s training ground on Saturday and Sunday for fitness tests, with Conte responding by saying that he is still the manager and does not want the players back until next Monday.

Conte is expecting to be sacked with Chelsea having lined up fellow Italian Maurizio Sarri to replace him, but he has yet to be told his fate by the club. His reply to Chelsea’s email to the players is understood to have been terse, bringing back memories of his infamous text message to Diego Costa 12 months ago in which he informed the Spain striker he was not required for the following season. That remarkable exchange was also prompted by a discussion of the club’s pre-season plans, with Costa’s request for four extra days off before returning to training leading Conte to reply, “Hi Diego, thank you, but you at not in my plans.”

Conte’s relationship with Chelsea’s hierarchy has been fraught since, and worsened after numerous rows over the club’s recruitment policy during the past two transfer windows, leading to his belief that he will be dismissed this summer. The 48-year-old still does not know what is happening, however, with the club engaged in brinkmanship over his severance package.

Under the terms of a new two-year contract he signed last summer, Conte is entitled to be paid for a further 12 months until he takes another job, with Chelsea even obliged to make up any difference in his salary in his next position for a year, which has left them facing a compensation package of well over £10 million. Conte’s salary is £9 million, but if he is dismissed Chelsea would also be forced to pay off his nine assistant coaches and members of his backroom team, who would not be retained.

Chelsea had been hoping that Conte would receive attractive job offers this summer to limit their compensation bill, but managerial posts at Paris SaintGermain, Real Madrid and the Italian national team have already been filled leaving him no obvious or immediate employment opportunities. As a result, Conte has decided to take a year’s sabbatical while being paid by Chelsea if he is sacked, as revealed by The Times last month.

Conte is adamant he will not resign despite the collapse of his working relationship with Chelsea and their determination to replace him. He has spent the last few weeks while on holiday in southern Italy planning a tough pre-season campaign for the players. He is due back in London this weekend and plans to hold his first training session next Monday, if he has not been sacked.

Chelsea have been negotiating with Napoli for several weeks to secure the release of Sarri, but have yet to reach an agreement with the Italian club despite the fact that they have already appointed his successor, Carlo Ancelotti. Sarri’s personal terms will be far easier to finalise and he has already held talks with Chelsea about potential new signings, with his preferred targets including Napoil forward Dries Mertens, CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin and Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

Bit of different scenario though, since conte quit juve during preseason, even then it only took them a couple of days to hire a replacement.

I wonder why conte could quit, but sarri can't even though he has been replaced.Crazy Italian laws.

There you  go @Davey Baby, I corrected your spelling and logic errors for you.  You're welcome.  Have a nice day

Agreed, though it really isn't peanuts. We're talking about releasing Conte along with his 9 staffmembers. The value of these contracts over 12 months is possibly more than £10M. Furthermore, we'd have to pay Napoli for Sarri.

To summarize: We could end up paying something like £20M for getting rid of a brilliant (although defensive) manager, who has an amazing record and lots of trophies to his name. In exchange we'd get a manager with an attacking approach with a rather doubtful record in regards of trophies. That's not peanuts, but the value of a possible high quality player.

I'm not saying I don't get the point, because really I agree, but as well I understand the situation from the clubs view. These things take time. Hopefully it'll all get sorted soon.
