I cant disagree, but in this game, the way the goal was given for Harry Kanes header reminded me of Luiz switching off for the New Castles goal. Atleast in Luiz defense we had a foul not given but in the case of Kane - he had enough space to guide the ball. Also, As a Premier League defender I think it is common sense not to give Kane this much space, No ?

Mourinho's asset is to build an us vs them mentality and organize the defense. As far as offence goes he relies on the individual brilliance and creativity of his players. Another pressure part for Jose is the rise of the other teams. In LVGs Utd era, Liverpool and Spurs were not this good. City under Pellegrini was good but not this good and Arsenal was managed by a Peter Capaldi lookalike who really could use a time machine. Getting to top 4 was not as difficult as it is now.

I look at the Utd squad and i think they will need to invest to fix the squad if they want to maintain their top 4 ambition. And if i were to be brutally honest, I feel like our own squad is a bit shaky. A few unfortunate gaffes and we could very easily fall out of the top 4! Heck City are outside the top 4 now and we after winning all our games are in the 3rd position.

He's got almost exactly the squad he wants. He kinda wants another winger and CB but he's overseen 2 new CB signings and Sanchez to go along with Martial and Rashford so it's not like there's a lack of talent there.

I think he's on the verge of losing most of the players' confidence and even though he came out in an aggressive shape it wont last long

Good Point - i think the shape might be one issue as well. Didnt realize he was playing a 3 at the back with Humpty Dumpty and Numpty. Pogba and Fred too did not seem like they were giving good defensive cover. Plus with Martial+ Lukaku misfiring and Sanchez coming of an injury he should have tried to go for a draw and hope to nick a win. He was better off with a 4-4-2.

That would be ironic if true, has he not missed sitters in consecutive matches?

JM six changes from the Brighton match, Jones lucky not to concede a clumsy penalty in the first half. Herrera playing in central defence.

Six changes from Brighton seems an over-reaction to me, according to footy365, MUTV leaked Matic would play in in the back 3 though it was Hererra.

For anyone that was watching is Alli now holding with Moura doing the attacking?

Moura was impressive. Was causing United's defence all sorts of problems.

Taken from another Chels forum:

Telegraph have an article praising Liverpool for their throw ins. Yep, you read that right. Throw ins.

Meanwhile Chelsea have the highest possession and passing stats in the league (unusual for us) and Jorginho equals the record for passes completed in a game, and nothing.

But sure, the media aren't biased against us.

funny that manure fans are blaming Jose. He is working w/ sh*t players. Checkout Lukaku & Pogba. Remember these are arguably the best players on manure

But...But... His World Cup performances!! Rob did you not see how he wasn't at all carried by Kante and great players around him!?

It's funny how only a few weeks ago many of the pundits were saying Chelsea won't make the top 4 and now the likes of Carragher are backtracking on their words and putting Chelsea in the same bracket as Liverpool, as teams that have the closest chance to challenge city.

They're fickle as f**k, when we lose our next game they'll be saying we'll crash out of the top 4. If United win their next game we'll be hearing about how Mourinho can still challenge for the title.

Pogba was on another planet, not sure which one, and not in a good way. I genuinely feel badly for Jose.

On Monday night football, gary Neville was saying Utd fans are a class apart and will stand by the players and coach no matter what..

thing is, the vast majority of chelsea fans stood by Mourinho in his last season all the way to the end, even when we were just a point above the drop. There were never any 'Mourinho out' campaigns and rightly or wrongly, all the anger was aimed at the players in the game immediately after he was fired.

just annoyed me hearing Gary Neville making out Utd fans are acting better than anyone else with Jose...

Neville always had a soft spot with Mourinho but the constant protection of Mourinho is irritating, can you remember us getting the same from Sky? I don't.

Putting the blame on Ed Woodward instead of the man who's had 5 transfer windows and spent nearly half a billion is ridiculous. I do understand how people think Woodward was in the wrong for changing his spending philosophy, but obviously, the targets must have been bad if he's refusing to get them.

Gary who I really like as a pundit was talking some absolute rubbish regarding Mourinho, about defensive mistakes and he should be able to get his centre-backs in. Mourinho signed Bailly & Lindelof, both of them don't look top level, particularly Lindelof. He's also had 5 windows to get in centrebacks, the excuses they're making for Mourinho's terrible transfers is uncanny.

As you mentioned, Mourinho, has already purchased 2 centre backs for around £70 million, and now wants to spend around £80 million on another centre back. Coach the 2 CB's you bought would be my answer to him.

Look what Conte did in his first season when he won the league, every signing he made that season worked (particularly Kante, Luiz & Alonso), he coached Costa back to his first season form, he converted Moses into a wide player who everyone thought had 0 future here whatsoever. Utilised Willian's strengths perfectly into a squad player and he ended up having his best season in a Chelsea shirt here. Also Pedro, everyone thought Pedro was a flop and couldn't cut the physicality of the league, Conte in one season made Pedro pay off his price tag. And the 3 at the back just worked, got one more season out of Cahill and Azpi converted into a solid centre-back who could play it out from the back.

And at that very time Conte had a much harder job to do than Mourinho did with United, I don't care what anyone says, on paper United still had a very good side, a good 3 years of transition since Fergie left and huge budget in the window to get back on form and Conte was the one who had to work with Mourinho's disaster that he left.

It's quite clear that the 2003-2012 Mourinho is gone, where he could come into the side and just make players better. He's had his time, the game has moved on, he can no longer coach players without bad publicity and big player power.
