Maguire for that much mone is an instant sell really.

It has to burst at some point.

As for our next goalie, my preference (Pope) got injured last night, seems a nasty one unfortunately.

Who knows who we'll have in goal come the first game of the season. I have a feeling we'll all be unpleasantly surprised...

Probably unpleasntly un-surprised going by most of our posts recently

If the choice is between Joe Hart and Pepe Reina, there's no right answer. But I'd have to choose Hart.

I don't know why if courtois is dead set on going we don't just go and get butland, young and English, and decent keeper, seems an easy solution as he's with relegated Stoke, but we seem to be f**king about looking at keepers that are either to expensive or an obtainable or foreign keepers that are a risk, for every one decent foreign import keeper theres many more that have been a disaster

Why did I think Bulka was in his early 20's? He's only 18, never realised that. He could definitely become a quality keeper if nurtured right. He has impressed me on this tour.

No worse than Donnarumma, despite less opportunities.

He looks very solid.

Be great to not have to spend out money on a keeper and for Bulka to become top class and our first choice. Be interesting to see how he develops.

Wouldnt mind sticking with Courtois for the year and then just slot in Bulka next year. The Joe Hart story is complete BS, would never happen. Wouldnt shock me to see Pep Reina come here though

Bulka looks like a very modern keeper, calm and composed with the ball at his feet.

I have seen much of his actual goalkeeping yet, so I don't know what he us like on crosses or shot stopping, but he looks very promising.

Bulka is in the final year of his contract.

May be auditioning for a new one with the amount of game time he is getting in the preseason.  I would be happy if that is the case, he looks like he has potential to be our #1.

How does he get to be left to his last contract year whilst we have the likes of Cabellero preventig him from breaking through. Will a 38 year old Rob Green really offer us more than this lad in the few games that he may be called upon

Either the club don't rate him and they've let his contract wind down or they do rate him and they've tried to get him to sign but he's stalling.

Assuming it's the latter, we're getting into this trouble more and more with our youth players, because they can't see a way through.

I thought you are only allowed to offer under 18s a 2 year contract so in reality we would only be looking to renew his contract this year anyway

I never knew that.

As far as I'm aware, Hudson-Odoi signed a 3 year deal in 2017, when he was 16, and we've just offered him a 5 year deal, and he's still only 17.

My bad see the below, I would guess that the 5 year deal will kick in when he is 18.

The more complicated and sough-after status is the professional one. Here are some important rules you should know about when potentially signing a professional contract:

  • a player can only sign a professional contract when he is 15 years old or older; it has to be co-signed by his parents or custodians;
  •  a player who is 18 years old or younger can only sign a contract for a maximum of 3 years;
  • all other contracts are limited to 5 years;

Re Bulka, goalkeeper is a tough position on loans and contracts. I don’t buy the ‘150 games until you’re ready for first team’ in general but with a keeper it’s a bit more accurate as you can’t get minutes here and there easily and your mistakes can’t be covered up. Even Courtois had experience in Belgium before he signed for us and went to Atletico. Hopefully he signs a new contract and goes on a smart loan.
