Not fancy Cech coming back as No 1 GK at all, he's been going down hill since he left us, couldn't even hold on the number 1 spot for Arsenal towards the end of the last season. The fact they replaced him with Leno meant he'd probably be number 3 had he stayed. If we can't afford a quality GK right now, we won't be able to afford one next season, the price is going up. There are at least half a dozen better GKs than Cech out there, go spend big money, or invest on a younger Gk who has to potential to get better, or at least has resell value. I don't want Cech's legacy with us be ruined by a poor last season with us, he made his choice to leave, let him be.

True, but i remember similar comments about Courtois when he eventually came in with his ultimatum effectively making the club bench Cech whilst Pete still had a lot to offer at the top level.

He’d be overpriced at 5£ never mind 5 million. 

He’s one of the worst 2 or 3 keepers in the Western Hemisphere. Don’t know too much about the Eastern Hemisphere but I suspect he’d be one of the worst keepers there too.

Would be happy to see courtois leave. Bad personality and a good but not world class keeper.

Don't like the bloke but Reina would make a good stop gap for a year or two until someone that suits Sarri's style becomes available. Better than going for a Joe Hart.

I'd take butland for no more than 30mill

And cabero is a dangerous 2nd keeper espcialy with butland having quite a bad injury record for a keeper. So could be called into action alot.

And then Cech to then go into coaching in a few years too.

Don't know much about him, sounds a bit of a tit and might be breast to avoid. 

Out of all the players we're linked with Pepe Reina and Areola are the only ones to fit the profile of a ball playing GK. Certainly don't want us to try and shoe horn Butland into the team and expect him to be playing it out.

In all seriousness he's a good goal keeper who is yet to enter his prime. Obviously not on Courtois level when it comes to pure goal keeping but he's probably not far off what City have in Ederson in terms of performance level tbh.

All comes down to price for me. 

If we're having to invest a lot more than we're going to get for Courtois then it's funds we could be investing elsewhere in the team, especially when the right wing and centre forward needs improving (in my opinion). 

PSG have bought in Buffon, for whatever reason, so might be able to get the lad for a decent price. I'll admit I haven't seen him play so can't comment on his ability.

I saw the price 45m Dollars floating about for him (not sure why it was quoted in dollars). So probably not far off what we're getting for Courtois. Areola/Pepe Reina seem to be the few keepers available that would suit Sarri's system. I fear someone like Butland would just be shoehorned in and not suit the style.

Also agree about CF and RW being our areas of concern. 

If we can bring in Areola for the same sort of money as we get for Courtois, I think we've done well. It may be a downgrade but he's a good keeper, he's a good size, a good age and he's experienced. For that sort of money it's a sensible solution, and it doesn't stop us getting somebody better down the line if we feel we must do. Butland isn't that good and will be massively overpriced. Same with Schmeichel.

 

We only have two keepers the way things stand so we'll need a third as well. No point having a youth as your third choice. I would try and get an upgrade on Willy for our number 2 and relegate Willy to third choice. He can hardly complain. He came to Chelsea when he knew he had no chance of being our first choice and he's sh*t anyway.

Just did a little digging. Areola is out of contract at the end of this season, so it's a good time to buy him. PSG's thirst for big names has prompted them to buy Buffon. However Areola has never totally convinced for PSG by all accounts, although he firmly established himself as number 1 last season, relegating Kevin Trapp to the bench.

Knowing the way the club is run these days, I can't see us keeping Courtois this season, and forsaking a fee for him. I suspect the deal with Madrid is done and we're lining up his successor before we sell. Courtois doesn't want to be here and it's best we sell, IMO.
