We've got a new Kepa

Featured Replies

Once again, and I'll keep mentioning it, he's too small and weak. Constantly flapping at crosses, and gets beaten at his near post by yet ANOTHER long range shot. Is it no surprise Kepa is the only keeper that gets beaten by long range shots on a regular basis? Too short. GK needs to be sorted out in the summer as none of the GKs are good enough.

I agree.

Flappy McFlapperson returned yesterday

Some worrying decision making, bad execution and beaten by yet another long shot.

Never going to be the long term answer - just feels too fragile and of course not tall enough (a regular size keeper saves that Leicester shot).

In my opinion Kepa has improved tremendously this year and so far he has had a good season. Every goalkeeper makes a mistake here and there even Cech did.

Yes his height is slightly in a smaller side for a goalkeeper but he is similar height to Cudicini and taller than Raya that many people want here.

Besides, there are not that many world class goalkeepers out there. Only one i can think of that is potentially world class but currently not having a good time is Donnarumma.

The 'here and there' mistakes by Kepa happen every second game...

Cech was rock solid and hardly ever made any errors. His mistakes were very few and far between

I am not saying Kepa is as good as Cech was but every keeper will make a mistake here and there. You cant tell me that this season kepa hasn't single handed saved us games.

Besides we have other areas where investment is needed more so than a goalkeeper.

Since the new year alone he has cost us (atleast) a point against Fulham and City aswell as let in soft goals against Leicester and Spurs, and this is while he's in the form of his life.

I'm glad he's recovered from his nightmare period but if we want to win a title (especially if it will take 90-100 points) we need an upgrade.

There are dozens of other games that he saved us points. Goalkeepers mistakes are amplified. Personally I am very happy with his form, he has improved in alot of areas especially leadership and is entering peak years for a goalie.

Plus people raving for Gaya and Pickford to replace Kepa just makes me laugh because they are even smaller than Kepa.

I haven't given up on Mendy either so we have two decent keepers.

Yes, i agree with you a word class goalkeeper would be ideal but where do you find him?

In my mind a quality defensive midfielder and a striker are a priority for summer.

He’s improved to the point where he’s not a complete liability but he needs to be sold. Might be an unpopular opinion but I still think Mendy is a decent sized upgrade and should go back into the team when fit.

I also think the "dozens of games he's saved us points" are amplified, Villa for sure, which else? Maybe United. Many times I feel the saves he makes are made to look better purely by the fact we got so use to him letting the same types of shots in.

I don't know if Mendy can ever get back to his 2021 self but if he manages it he'll be straight back in the team.

Dozens - name a few ? He has cost us atleast 6-9 points already.. as others have said that too when he is supposedly playing well.

any top keeper saves the goal he conceded yesterday.. it was miles out.

plus I don’t see many calling out for de gea or raha where are you reading that?

but agree with you that we need a DM and if mendy can get back to his UCL winning form we may not need a new keeper.

I hope he bought Gallagher a nice bottle of wine or something because he massively saved his arse on that goal line clearance. Kepa was terrible yesterday, back to the days of flapping at every cross.

His inability to command his box is something I am utterly baffled our scouting team didn’t consider when we bought him. Coming to a league where you need commanding GKs.

Kepa is pretty good and has played well for long .. something that gets absolutely no appreciation here. f**king sorry forum this...

He has definitely improved and has been playing well but he still has weaknesses. He's great at shot-stopping for example, probably one of the best in the league based on stats, but he is absolutely horrible at commanding the box and has no aerial ability whatsoever. I can't help but panic whenever the ball is crossed into the box and I'm sure more teams are going to be doing this to exploit that weakness.

Utter nonsense. Almost everyone has acknowledged his improvement compared to under Lampard, if anything he's getting huge leeway for some of the mistakes he's made since new year given how quickly it took for many to give up on Mendy (who unlike Kepa has a body of bonafide world class work in the bank).

Why is it always the expensive signings that gets borderline lawyerish posts like these everytime they hit form or even do the basics? I've never seen similar for a cheap signing.

Has improved for sure, given his wages I think we struggle to sell him though.

Yea, he’s not going anywhere, unless he’s on loan like Lukaku and we cover a portion of his wages, a mid-size club are not matching what we pay him (reportedly 150k pw with bonuses)

Kepa will leave Chelsea as a free agent in 2025.

Tbf Kepa as part of the squad until then is fine by me, wouldn't even be against extending him if he's happy to play the role he did behind a top class keeper the way he did 2021 Mendy (alongside as a wage cut ofcourse).

There's many question marks with Kepa but his character isn't one of them, got nothing but respect for the way he's conducted himself at the club.
