No, they are not. I don't think you have quite grasped the seriousness of the situation right now. I can guarantee you right now that the last thing they want to do is shut down Chelsea football club. The number 1 club in London, which is the capital of one of the biggest cities in the world, in the biggest sport in the world, we will be viewed as a major asset to the country. There is a reason why Roman Abramovich wasn't one of the names listed to be affected by sanctions put on Russia a few days ago, it's because it's not something the government wants to do. Things have escalated greatly since then though, and anything can happen at this point.

From my own point of view, I don't know how seizing Abramovich's assets hurts Russia, but maybe there is something more to it that I am not aware of.

This is just getting silly now. You can't seriously believe that there is a conspiracy in the government to bring Chelsea down.....

I think if any sanctions are taken against Roman they will be in an effort to push him and other oligarchs to turn on Putin. I imagine some of the richest people in Russia have quite a bit of political influence.

That being said I suspect that if we see any action it would be to freeze his assets and not seize them. The aim of a freeze would be stop any assets being sold and the money would be locked into the club. In that scenario I imagine the club would still be allowed to operate but would have to do so within its means. So certainly that would impact signings etc.

Roman had to cover a 150mill debt after we won the CL last season. How do we believe we can cover ourselves without him with our astronomical wage bill?

Wasn't most of that debt related to a couple of years without crowds at the bridge though?

Because they don't want to start WW3.

Could well end up like the US in WW2. If they acted quicker could have saved lives.

Was part of it but not all. Now we have Roms Salary too.

If the UK government and the US government in particular are so outraged by this then why are the politicians talking and talking instead of sending their respective militaries to help the Ukraine?

Nowadays wars are battled on the economic scale. The US and UK don't mobilize the military unless there's actually something to be gained.

The current show of force is to stop Russia from becoming big enough to threaten the big guys. If the military is mobilized then welcome to WW3.

No - crowd revenue is very small beer these days. Our revenue was actually still pretty good for the year, but the ridiculous wage bill is what kills us, and there were additional massive bonuses in the contracts for the whole squad for winning the CL. It's just sh*t decision making at the top level in my opinion.  Look at Lukaku ... you shouldn't have to pay someone more than double what they were earning in their previous club/job to persuade them to move ... and we do it time and time again, and then wonder why no-one will buy any of our dead wood players ...

This is why we are incurring massive losses. We have massively overpaid the likes of Barkley, Drinkwater, Lukaku etc in wages.

It's also the reason why we have players like Rudiger that can bend the club backwards on salary comparison alone.

I think this is correct. What’s pretty key is this war is extremely unpopular in Russia. Only Putin, a few nut jobs and some useful idiots in the West support this or see a logic to it.

Morale among Russian troops must be low, and maybe explains why military gains have been unimpressive.

The question is at what point does the self-preservation instinct among soldiers, the Russian people, oligarchs, Roman … shift the calculus from grudging acceptance of Putin to active opposition. I mean - Russians don’t want their kids to die in a nuclear war either. Roman doesn’t want to lose his investments coz of this vengeful psychopath I’m fairly certain Roman would love to see deposed.

I’m hopeful this could be the beginning of the end for Putin. I just hope we get there quickly with as little bloodshed and strife as possible. It probably won’t be quick so lots can go wrong. 😱

Some of the media are claiming RA has flown from Monaco to Moscow they are linking this with MPs comments about seizing assets though I would not be surprised if the Putin regime has issued orders and they want all their oligarchs on home soil. I suppose for a former Russian oligarch it was a request he felt he could not turn down.

Bad news for us and expect this uncertainty will affect the players,  never a good time for this yet unfortunately on the 'eve' of a big cup final.

It shouldn't be any different to the players unless the players are protesting against the Russian regime.

Nothing to do with us, all the oligarchs have been summoned to Moscow

Inconceivable that Roman would purchase a property, in a foreign country, without his Legal team adding a Indemnity Clause (to compensate any loss incurred by other party).  He’s far too sharp to risk his wealth, and quite right too.

After all, it works for “Big Pharma”, they love a Shell Company or 3.

Well if they're seizing all Russian assets, we will at least have the consolation of it also being the end of the Conservative Party.

ROME, FEB 25 - Premier Mario Draghi said Friday that the knock-on effects of Russia's invasion of Ukraine were set to have a major impact on the Italian economy and, with the energy sector a particular concern, it may be necessary to reopen coal-fired power plans to meet the nation's energy demands.

Seems like China is supporting them economically so will the measures taken have any affect on Putin himself?

I am sure the players have heard all the possibilities to do with the club, including potential liquidation meaning they stop getting paid and will need to move to find new clubs etc. Bound to be a little fear there.

The players should stick together and win together as a team, there is no fear for them since all are earning way above average salaries and it's normal in their profession to change teams sooner or later. The fans should be worried but the players can at least say that once upon a time they played for Chelsea, their club.

Would be nice, or they can say "well this will be over soon best keep myself fit to find a new club".

Indeed. We'll see on the rest.

On Roman himself he is being incredibly quite on this. By that I mean his spokes people.

Ukraines PM has bashed the US and UK for their lack of help, effectively leaving them to be slaughtered as Russia target civilians as well as military facilities.

What is Roman supposed to do, the UK already denied him visa after he has been living in the UK for 10 years. Ukraine toyed with Russia and it seems like the suppose Western allies abandoned them now, let's blame Roman!

Nothing directly he can do. Just find it interesting he has not condemned Russias invasion.
