They'll find a way. Gallagher is the last big money Cobham grad though.

I expect the likes of Matos or other academy players to hit heights and then sold for a enormous profit. Really could be a never ending cycle.

Gone from a trophy winning machine to a feeder club.

It's never worked in history, and it won't work now. Look at A**x, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Monaco, Barcelona etc. all these clubs tried this model and ended up in boom-bust cycles that nearly destroyed each club, Barcelona being a prime example when they had a few dry years out of La Masia.

The only place this has ever worked, to some extent, is in Portugal, where the unique political and cultural relationship to Brazil facilitates the transfer of young South American talents for dirt cheap to Portuguese clubs, in circumstances that cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. Not to mention the Portuguese teams are happy with occasional European success and a modest profile, simply not an option for the super-clubs of La Liga and the EPL.

The model that Blueco are going for is unfortunately another example of investment arrogance.

True that, a good example in PL is Southampton. At their best when all their best reaching their peak, they looked like challenging the Europa league spot or even more with a bit of luck, then the sale and replaced with next generation of 'talent', got worse year after year and look at where they are now. Are they financially better off? Absolutely not , just pay big money to not so good players to stay alive.

But ... we are two games against Middlesbrough away from a domestic cup final !  Arsenal, Man United, Man City, Newcastle and Tottenham would love to swap places with us in that respect ...

A bit of positivity wouldn't go amiss ... Aussies are supposed to be good at that LOL

I'm going to have so much fun with Arsenal fans if a Clearlake built team wins a trophy before an Arteta built one.

He already did win the FA Cup though, they beat us in the final Argo...

You beat me to it. Unfortunately I wish I had forgotten that one too.

Was Emery's squad though. Ever since he's started building his own they've won nothing.

True but he still got the medal....unfortunately.

And a strategy that hinges on the previous owner's foresight and investment in Youth and Youth facilities. One whose tenureship he arrogantly and summarily criticised.

When did he do that?

One of those public events he seemed to love so much to massage his ego with, that all off a sudden he's disappeared from as the whole world witnesses the folly of his operations.

It's not as simple as fixing this through the transfer market, a lot of work needs to be done throughout the different levels of the club. Too many people are hiding behind Todd Boehly and Pochettino.

If things remain as they are, Chelsea FC will be run into the ground and what it stood for will die. Chelsea FC the elite club has already die it just took us longer to realise/accept it.

By far the worst project in footballing history. No surprise then that its run by our transatlantic cousins. To take the reigning world champions to back to back mid table seasons after £1bn spent. Is truly remarkable, it takes a special level of incompetence to screwup this bad.

So many unnecessary sales and purchases. It is time now to begin the process of trying to go back to elite level. That means ditch the players that aren't good enough stop overspending and have the scouts recruit 25 year olds+ with experience and talent to immediately improve the team.

Pochettino must recognise this and go to war with the board and sporting directors. Make no mistake he is not Graham Potter I don't think he will be silent about just how poor the level of players he's been given is. No he won't go Conte and go nuclear but I do expect some fire passion from him.

To sum up football business management:

The main difference between teams that spend a lot of money and experience differing succes is efficency. Sport management research points to this, we have not been efficient in our expenditure or sales and it has wasted the past 15-18 months.

Teams that have lost the most matches in 2023 from the top 5 leagues in Europe:

Almeria, La Liga (24)

Werder Bremen, Bundesliga (20)

Empoli, Serie A (20)

CFC (19)

We are officially top 4. Props to Todd and Co.

2 of which are in relegation zone and 1 fighting out of relegation.

“The new Chelsea.”

The season before Clearlake took over, we finished top 4, narrowly lost to eventual winners Real Madrid in Champions League QF, and made it to 2 cup finals (also winning UEFA Super Cup and World Club Championship). we managed that despite all the sanctions placed on the club for a large chunk of the season. Yes the team was overdue some changes, and some key players had already decided to move on at the end of the season. But even considering that you have to say it is an impressive achievement by Clearlake to take us from that to a rudderless midtable outfit in less that 1 1/2 years. They have forked out a small fortune on a set of crocks and flops. At this point they may even manage to relegate the club in the next couple of years. This season perhaps that won't happen as the promoted clubs are struggling to amass many points. But if we continue on this path much longer, relegation is a real possibility in seasons to come.

I don't think Poch will be silent about it. But equally I think he will be shown the door if he starts speaking out now.
