I went berserk just prior to the penalty shootout when they were deciding which half and who will shoot first. Obviously Vincent Kompany wins the draw and takes the Man City half. 

Then it's Azpi's turn to decide if we should go first or second to. He didn't know what to do!!! Calls over Kepa and asks him, then proceeds to shout to Luiz! 

It took him a good 10 seconds to decide!!

Are you sure about this?   There should be no way a team would not go first when they win the coin flip.   And you are saying that Kompany chose the side of the field to have the shootout, and not to go first?   If I was a Citeh fan, I would be livid about this.    Going first is a great advantage, unless you have a horrible penalty kicker taking the first kick.  Oh wait ...

JT said it yesterday on Sky that Rudiger is one the leaders in the dressing room. You only have to watch his post match interviews after we lose to see he is a leader and has balls. The fans like him, Manager rates him, Seems well liked in the dressing room.

Taking penalties into a goal with 10,000 of your own fans behind the goal is probably more of an advantage.

Azpi is fine with the armband, he's a role model, loves Chelsea, world class etc.

Those who will perform as captain in these specific situations will step in and do so regardless of their status in the team.

Nope, sorry but Azpi just isn't up to it. A good player doesn't necessarily make a good captain and so it is proving with Azpi.

Just underlines the way our squad has gone over the seasons. Look at the options we have had over the seasons for captain. It was always gonna be JT but if he was out with a long-term injury we had options in Lamps, Ballack, Cech, Drogba, Essien.

 

Rubens for sure. Maybe not this season, but from next season he should be made permanent captain.

English, academy product and Chelsea. Makes sense to me.

The coin is tossed twice. I believe we won both times. The first time was a decision where to take the pens, wasn't a tricky one. We went with out end quickly. 

The second time was who should take first. 60% of the teams who kick first, win. Its why that abba format was brought in for pens recently (but ditched as it's confusing) For some reason we didn't know this, deliberated and went with kicking second.

1. The referee tosses a coin to decide the goal at which the kicks will be taken. The choice of goal by the coin toss winner may only be changed by the referee for safety reasons or if the goal or playing surface becomes unusable.^[1]
2. The referee tosses the coin a second time to determine which team will take the first kick.

I thought they toss the coins for a penalty shoot out before the game has even kicked off? 

I'm not sure why there should be any confusion,  you want the shoot out in front of our fans, and you want to kick 1st. I thought that wouldve been obvious.

Don’t think the role of captain in football is particularly significant.

Its not like cricket, where the captain decides who bowls and the fielding placement.

Voiciferous players will continue being instructive whether they wear an armband  or otherwise, and quiet players will carry on being quiet.

Nor are you the managers representative on the field. If the gaffer wants to make a change or send out instructions he’ll simply convey this message by shouting.

You say that but when you hear about how JT went about it then it became a much more important position at our club.  Unfortunately nobody will even be able to fill the void he left behind.
