August 17, 20232 yr Grass is green water is wet Reece James is injured I fear it may be time to cash in
August 17, 20232 yr Got trust Gusto or whoever we have in reserves to cover James. It's an unfortunate part of his career, everytime he went down our results went with it. I don't think there's 100M 21 year old RB out there even if we want to burn cash.

How highly do you guys rate James? - for England/Neutral - I've always rated Walker miles ahead, then Trent, Trippier. Enjoy watch him play, seems talented - but if he turned into your Wilshere - how long before you look to spend £100M on a right back? James has no real weaknesses, other than his injuries. He's far ahead of Trippier, it's not even close. Alexander-Arnold is great at attacking, but James is on another level defensively. Walker is all about pace and at the same age as James, I didn't rate him that highly. Guardiola made him a better player.

August 17, 20232 yr It's interesting to point out that all three of our most promising Cobham graduates in the RB position - Tariq Lamptey, Reece James and Tino Livramento - have had ongoing knee/leg issues that threaten to derail their careers.
August 17, 20232 yr Get Well James. We have favorable fixtures for the next 4 to 8 weeks. ( I see no issues with the current players we have covering for Captain James)
August 17, 20232 yr I am very confident, maybe without enough reason, that Gusto will do a great job defensively, but yet to show what he has in attack. In short Gusto excellent off the ball but unknown to me when he's on it. So I could support Whitewall's suggestion of having Pavard as a backup. Equally i think this may speed up the switch to 4 3 3 and have the midfield do more of the defensive screening.
August 17, 20232 yr Also a shame because the partnership between Reece and Sterling was looking so promising.

He would be about 2nd for any technical, tactical or physical aspect if comparing those players. Take Trent for example - more creative than anyone on that list but James is better defensively, physically, would probably rack up the same number of assists if he was feeding the Liverpool frontline, and is a bigger goal threat. Alas, I think it's time to move the guy to midfield and bring back memories of those Wigan days. Note, Disasi can cover at RB as well which is probably a good reason as to why the club got him.

Of course we will miss Reece but hopefully his absence will be a little less felt than last year

Disasi or Chalobah would be options to look at if Gusto is unavailable

You were one who regularly called for Kante to be moved on for his injury record. With James picking up so many injuries and missing so many games, and at such a young age, would you be looking to sell him on now?

Actually I would also ask the same question of @ducavis and @OriginalS and @Scott Harris. James missing so many games now, do you look to sell?

James is by far the most complete player, excellent ball control, passing, crossing, and very sound defensively. I'm not even one of those to say "our player is better than x" when it comes to England, I said Shaw was a better option to Chilwell for the World Cup and EURO's and I love Chilwell (I would say different now mind). But James is better than all those RB's you mentioned, the only thing Walker has over him is pace and that's it. The problem with James is that he's always injured and it's going to impact his potential. But to be honest, he's the best talent I've seen from our academy since John Terry.

With James picking up so many injuries and missing so many games, and at such a young age, would you be looking to sell him on now? James is a young club captain and the extent of his present injury isn’t known. Kante was ageing and the fact that he went to Saudis shows he was past his best. So I certainly don’t advocate selling James but I do think Gusto might need a backup. James’s is an excellent player when fit. So far he hasn’t had the opportunity to show that over a whole season in the way that Kante did over his 4-5 peak years. So regrettably James may end up as one of those “if only” careers. Sigh.
August 18, 20232 yr He just became the captain, he'll be back stronger than ever. Still sad that we can never have the opportunity to play the best possible team, Liverpool and Man City can do that most of the time. So I fully expect that someone else will get injured once James is back, it's just the theme of the squad. You can't really win the league if your key players are always missing.
