One's a full blown international, World Cup winner and Runner up, CL, Super Cup and World Club Cup winner, and 4 times Bundesliga champion. It might not fit the age profile (27 too old? Jesus!) but its a safer pay of hands i reckon. Maybe Gusto will grow into the position. We are about to find out i suppose Let's not pretend Gusto wasn't one of our better players at preseason, and looked quite comfortable against Liverpool once he found his feet. I have high hopes for him and it is looking like he will come out as our most important signing. We also have Disasi who can play RB.
August 17, 20232 yr Very annoying but totally expected , great player but wouldn’t be surprised to see him retired within a few years the ways things are going. Does look to me like he carries too much weight/muscle though.
August 17, 20232 yr What the hell has he done? Longest he's been out with a hammie previously is 49 days. His recent injury history is appalling though.
August 17, 20232 yr I appreciate being a captain is also a symbolic thing but practically it was always sketchy to give him the arm brand considering the constant injuries. Chilwell is by all purposes the actual main captain due to the constant uncertainty around Reece.

August 17, 20232 yr Problem is - and the same as the last two seasons - all our attacks depend on Reece and Chilwell. Was the same against Liverpool already. And now we're looking to play 3 DMs in the centre, how are we going to score enough goals. the days of 1-0s in the Prem is largely over and we pretty rarely score more than one goal per game in the last two seasons

Define most important signing. Presumably you are referring to the fact that he is now the only cover for an injury prone James. I can't see what rationale makes Gusto our likeliest most important signing in comparison to Jackson, Nkunku, Disasi, Santos, Madueke, Caicedo, Lavia, as well as players coming into the side (as if new signings to the first team) such as Colwill and, hopefully Maatsen

Imagine Azpilicueta for months in a season where we need to finish Top 4/5,
August 17, 20232 yr I have no faith in us getting back to the top end of the league. I don't see how it's possible when our best players keep getting injured. Badiashile, Chalobah, Fofana, Nkunku and now James. 5 players out and the season has only just started. Nkunku and James are our two best players, you can't make it into the top 4 without your best players. I don't know what can be done with James at this point. He's exactly like Kante. We all knew this was going to happen again and it has, and it will happen again as soon as he comes back too. Surgery is an option to try and correct the issue, but as we saw with Kante, it never worked. I don't think Gusto is ready to be relied on yet, but we already have no choice but to throw him in.
August 17, 20232 yr This is depressing news that ruined my day, hope James gets a speedy recovery Edited August 17, 20232 yr by Frankie8Lampard
August 17, 20232 yr With this amount of doubt in Gusto, I'm pretty sure no one here has ever seen him play before preaseason. Ya'll gonna be really surpised. James getting injured yet again is shambolic but Gusto is the best one to replace him.
August 17, 20232 yr A great chance for Gusto. This is disappointing news, but at this point its no longer surprising. Big loss. I am confident in Gusto - he has all the tools to be successful in PL. Think back 4 suits him better, but no reason he can't adapt to WB. Agree with @Scott Harris - recurring injuries to critical players will severely hamper any progress. Not sure how we break this cycle Edited August 17, 20232 yr by PhilH930

Pavard is valued at £34m apparently. We are chasing after Olise for £35m and now Barcola or Johnson for simialr money, when we have Madueke, maatsen and if needed Burstow as a stop gap that we could put in there. maybe Caicedo wil end up at RB more than at DM, which woud be a massive shame
August 17, 20232 yr Really need to start questioning the way our medical team have handled him, and others, over recent years. Players get injured sure, but no other team are starting with 5 first teamers out
August 17, 20232 yr Got to say you have to be worried about James's career here at this point. Especially if this is another 3 months out or so, clearly his hamstrings can't hold up. In the summer the club could be thinking of cashing in if there's interest but I very much doubt there will be tbh. He's about as crocked as Kante and even on a free there was only Saudi interest in him really. Edited August 17, 20232 yr by OriginalS

More a case of changing specialists.

I think long term he may have to he moved into the central of defense, especially if/when we play back 3. People won't like to hear that but the only solution may end up being playing him in less taxing positions.
