of course willian meant to do that !! some times he remembers he is Brazilian

just like that one goal he scored at anfield - I remember the haters were saying on that day it was luck too - I guess Slick Willie is a very lucky player

I'm not discrediting him for the goal, i'm discrediting posters acting like he aimed to bounce it over the goalkeeper and through a defenders legs. Not even Messi could do that on purpose. Good goal with an awful lot of luck.

He definitely meant it, he aimed it to the ground, it reminded me of Diego Forlan's goal against Germany at the 2010 World Cup, and Ozil scored a similar type of one against us a couple of years back.

Willian every now and then has these occasional moments of brilliance, we've seen him score some crazy goals.

Both him and Ozil aimed to drill it along the ground. No player aims to bounce it, to perfect the trajectory is left to pure luck. More likely to bounce over the cross bar than go in. Like Kante's goal first game under Sarri, or did he mean that one too.

Really good to see that you passed your BTec in mind-reading.  You'll fit in well with most of the posters now :)

And all the posters saying he meant it aren't mind readers too? Come on Yorkley, a bit of consistency here please.

Also nice to see @youlots is back to never actually posting in these threads and just liking anything directed to me.

That's what I meant about fitting right on in,mate.  So  many mind-readers who know exactly what player X or  manager is thinking.  Makes us mere humans feel inadequate and uninformed.

It's a bit like all the world-class soccer experts  who know exactly how and why  top club managers don't understand the game, tactics, or the requirements of their specific hate-figure player of choice.

It's quite simple really. To drill the ball along the ground would have required  a slightly different technique with his body more upright driving thru the ball with more bodyweight over it. William clearly stabs the ball sharply down like he's hooking it down. You don't need to be a pro footballer, professor of physics or a mindreader to know what will happen to "bouncy ball" when you hit it like that!

Absolute bollocks and if you honestly think anyone would consciously try to bounce it through a players legs and over a keeper you clearly haven't played the game.

Of course he didn't plan that, but he did try to keep his foot over the ball, so he was thinking 'keep it low'.

like i said, tried to drill it low like he should. Its the other posters like @Dixons that genuinely believe he meant to bounce it like that. Worrying observations.

Over the ducking defenders head.

You are basicly saying Willians shot was a complete mish*t with terrible technique and a freak goal.

Again, if you look at the picture at the moment of impact you can see he has no clear shot on goal. Defender right in front of him, far post probably not even in sight and near post covered too.

With a volley from where he was and the posirion of the defender he could only score would be with an amazing swerve into the far corner with a shot from the outside of his foot and would have had inches to play with.

Hit it straight and low, which would have meant it had to go between the defenders legs and then thru the arms and legs of the keeper.

The third and easiest option was to do what he did slamming it hard into the ground straoght at goal KNOWING it would bounce and then dip and that the keeper would see it very late. The only lucky part was getting the height and dip right, which he did.

Slam a bouncy ball into the ground like that and it will bounce, not stay low!

Yorkley and RIP Mourinho arguments are back, my matchdays are complete.

Willian meant to score...and he did.... regardless of the amount of luck between aspiration and executive.......good enough for me.....

But I will add that if Willian absolutely meant to execute exactly what he pulled of there...then I'd like to know why he isn't scoring 20+ goals a season with that type of shooting skill and mastery of physics.

Salzburg's 2nd goal against Liverpool was also hit into the ground, if you watch that one you can see the logic more behind doing it, it's just easier to hit it into the ground than trying for a pure volley when the ball is moving towards you. When I rewatch the Willian goal after that one I see the sense in why it could be intentional, hitting it into the ground that is, after that point it was just hoping it goes into the goal.

That's pretty much it!

Nobody is saying it was a genius goal, jiust an instinctive and probably the best/easiest way to get a decent attempt at goal, considering where he was and the position of the defender right in front of him.
