I wouldn't mind seeing this next season, but we need some good defenders that can find a pass under pressure and a goalkeeper.

Gilmour will be the sitting dictator not Kante.

For Werner we are pretty much using the money from Morata only.

We are still to sell Bakayoko, Zappacosta and I'm sure we will sell Pasalic, Moses and Batshuayi...Maybe if Ampadu doesn't settle we sell him as well or someone else from the midfield.

From the Hazard money we got Ziyech and Pulisic. So we aren't spending money to get players at all.

You're forgetting the very large crisis that would have cost us tens of millions over the last two months,  the fact crowds won't be back until close to the end of the year and that most clubs simply won't have money to buy or pay the fees we think we might get to raise this money.

You're also leaving aside the 60 something million dollar loss we made last year and that our CL qualification next season is far from certain.

Right, but in that case this should also mean that other clubs can't buy big during this period either. Meaning that for example Manutd simply can't get Sancho as their situation is even worse than ours.

I'm a bit worried Newcastle is in the running now as well, what if they can offer him more minutes?

Players with real and Bayern after them aren’t picking Newcastle mate

Alex Goldberg has a podcast on Patreon with Liam Twomey, Raphael Honigstein and they talked about the potential deal for Kai Havertz.  It's pretty interesting really, as they make it obvious that the interest is real, and mutual, but of course there is a lot that can and has to happen for it to be completed for Chelsea. Alex also speaks James Pearce regarding Liverpool's point of view on the Werner deal. It's a little over 3 hours long but it's well worth the $2/month.

But, if you haven't checked out Alex's podcast on Patreon, I highly recommend it as fellow Chelsea fans. If you'd like to check it out it can be found: https://www.patreon.com/TheByline.

Anyway, as for Kai Havertz, I haven't watched the Bundesliga much, but from what everyone is saying about this guy, he is a must buy. Cheers

It's a different Newcastle with SAUDI money.

Not enough to attract top young talent, maybe if the project takes shape season or two but not now, too many unknowns why risk it, plus FFP means they can’t go bonkers like before

With FFP in place, big money takeovers aren't the same as they used to be. Newcastle won't be able to just go out and buy everybody.

Reliable in Germany. But I wouldn't get our hopes up too much, a long way to go and a lot of competition from clubs more attractive than us. I can only assume we are thinking we need to do deals this summer while other clubs are dormant.
I still think Havertz money spent on a new goal keeper, and a new centre/left back would get us much closer to Liverpool and City.
Also jeeez the pressure is on to make the CL now with all these signings.  No idea how we will pay for them otherwise when FFP returns.

Havertz is not exactly what we need either, I feel. If Frank has another plans that is fine but we should be looking at LB and possibly CB.

We need more goals in the squad personally over defenders, there has been so many games where we haven't killed teams off causing an anxiety to concede.

I understand that part but I would still go for Koulibaly + LB and a Havertz if possible. Maybe we are working to get all of them [emoji16]

Hopefully though I wouldn't go for Koulibaly due to him nearing his 30's, I'd rather have a defender with more years in him for the long term.

I still think Tomori will come good anyway.

Perhaps you are right. Still I would love someone who is top of their game. Van Dijk type who transforms team from underperforming team to a dominating force. Fikayo is young and he haven't shown leadership so far.

I agree, plus it goes against the club's model of signing players who will have re-sale value.

The thinking is that you sign someone age 23/24 for say £30M, pay them, say £150K a week for 4 years, total expenditure £61.2M.

Then hopefully they have developed into a big star, and you sell them to Real etc, for say £70M, and all of a sudden you've recouped everything that you've spent on that player, and hopefully even a bit more,  and you've basically had the benefit of them playing for you for a few years for free.

You don't get that if you sign a 29 year old for huge money, on big wages, and whose re-sale value is probably zero at age 33/34 or whatever.

We have signed successfully some older gentlemen in the past *cough Zola *cough Gullit *cough Makalele *cough and so on.

Very true - but the last one of those was 17 years ago ! I think we are operating under a different model now ...

In recent times we've generally only signed older players if the fee is very low, or a free transfer, or a loan. Koulibaly is a premium price ...

Apparently there are serious rumours about Havertz and Sancho to join Chelsea.

So I want to ask you guys how likely is that either Havertz or Sancho (or even both) will join you?

After spending €60M  for Werner, you'll need at least €100M  for Havertz and €130M for Sancho.

Are you guys able to spend approx. €300M in one transfer window during the corona crisis?

Able to? Sure I think so. Willing to? I doubt it. Assuming that we sell a handful of fringe players, I don’t think it’s outrageous that we’d have to funds to buy both Havertz and Sancho this window. But it’s very unlikely.

I'm thinking that Havertz might want to have some assurances that he will actually play, right now our first team has shown a lot of potential so it's safe to say that Tammy won't be happy if he's benched, same can be said for Mount and Pulisic and all of them have been our best attacking players this season. Sure Willian is leaving soon but Ziyech didn't come to sit on the bench either.
And then you have RLC coming back as well...

So Havertz would have to compete with Mount that is a favorite of Frankie and RLC that has tons of potential, he might want to have some guarantee of playtime before signing with us and I don't believe that Frank can give him that unless if Mount or RLC are to be sold...

So for me the main problem isn't the money even. Obviously it's a problem if we are to buy Chilwell for 60-80m and IMO a new LB should be the priority once Werner officially signs...but even with the money available for splashing, Havertz might just look to join another team, where he wouldn't have to wonder if he's going to be starting games or not.
