January 16, 20206 yr Just like January as a whole, the length of time between games seems to be going on forever!
January 16, 20206 yr We've had a lot of miserable results going to Newcastle away, they're really hit and miss at the moment though, lots of injuries and will have played twice this week, that should surely be an advantage. I'm going to be optimistic and go for the Chelsea win.
January 16, 20206 yr I'm waiting until I see the lineup until I decide how confident or not I am for this. Same lineup as Burnley (give or take Barkley/Kova and maybe at a push Azpi/Alonso) and I think we'll have far too much for them. However if Lampard decides to break up the CHO/James partnership down the right, shoehorn Kante straight back in the side, give Emerson another chance or god for bid all three we could be in for a long frustrating game.

Yes agree, going Tuesday against Arsenal then have to wait a whole 4 weeks till next game, wish I hadn't sold my Leicester tickets to a mate now. Mind you get to March and the games come thick and fast
January 17, 20206 yr Early goal for Tammy and then keep the momentum going for a couple more 3-0. Please.
January 17, 20206 yr Isn't Pullisic coming back for this game? He could have an important cameo to play. CHO looked improving in the last few games, James need to play and keep whipping those cross in to break their bus down. Just like the last game, we had a full week rest, there's no excuse not to play with intensity and hunger to win this.

In an interview with ESPN, Pulisic revealed that he is still a few weeks away from returning as he’s set to miss Chelsea’s clash with Newcastle this Saturday, their London derby against Arsenal next Tuesday and their FA Cup trip to Hull City the following Saturday. “It’s been almost a week, and I’m just kind of taking it day by day. I’m just rehabbing every day. I’m doing my best to be back in the next week, the next couple weeks,” Pulisic said. “I don’t think it should be too long, so I’m just working every day, doing everything I can to be back on the pitch.” https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2020/01/16/christian-pulisic-injury-update-chelsea-usmnt/ Edited January 17, 20206 yr by Jezz
January 18, 20206 yr Win this and the pressure is really on United, who I don't expect to pull off a miracle at Anfield but you never know with those lucky arseholes. Even though they're sh*te they manage to get a big win occasionally. Have to beat Newcastle with Arsenal, United and Spurs coming up. I think at least a draw tomorrow but defend properly from set pieces and we can win this one comfortably.
January 18, 20206 yr As long as the lads dont go out in some orange socks and strange design shirts 3 away points are on the menu today

January 18, 20206 yr Newcastle is always a tricky place to go. We need to pick up 3 points as we got a few hard games coming up. Looks like kante, pulisic are out. I would start with kepa James rudiger christensen azbi kovacic jorginho Barkley CHO Abraham willian subs: caba, zouma, mount, alonso,Batman, pedro, tomori
January 18, 20206 yr A potential banana skin, but hopefully the lads come out of the game with 3 points.
January 18, 20206 yr I would start with: Kepa James Rudiger Christensen Azpi Kovacic Jorginho Mount CHO Abraham Willian Barkley on the bench for this one. I could see Carroll nicking a goal for the Magpies so best not to go for a 1-0 victory yet put this match away early. Edited January 18, 20206 yr by Strider6003
January 18, 20206 yr The accursed Newcastle away fixture, hopefully winning last time has broken it. Newcastle have been terrible at first but they've been managing to pull results out the bag recently, definitely a banana skin still.

This was mostly an issue with Mourinho tbf, I don't think Mourinho won there once when he was here, every other manager didn't seem to have too much of a problem from what I recall. Still, Newcastle are very unpredictable this season, but we seem to play better away from home.

That would be exactly my lineup that, not too many changes, keep the back 4 the same, put Kova in for Barkley and good to go. The worst thing Lampard could possibly do right now is make too many changes, I fear that's something that could possibly happen, I think he has been rotating too much.

Our CBs had zero consistency this season.

I thought Christensen done well last time out so think he should stay for this one to see if it is a flash in the pan or whether he is decent again following the last win. You could make the same analogy over Barkley yet I think we need a bit more grit in midfield up at Newcastle so would put Barkley on the bench to use in case we become too defensive.

Wouldn't mind Barkley starting, he had a good game last week, so why not? I think it would be best getting Kovacic back there, back to our full strength duo of Jorginho-Kovacic, they have been outstanding together for a majority of this season so far.

I was torn over Barkley, the flash in the pan comment seems to apply to him a bit more for me.
