April 13, 20224 yr Something in him has changed mentally, he used to be scared in the box but now he's fearless. If this sticks then we do have a player on our hands. But then again what we saw in Pulisic seems to have gone and not resurfaced for a long time now. Very eager to see how he performs in the next match.
April 13, 20224 yr Werner is a masochist, remember that bruised lip performance? I really wish we'd slap him in the face before every game 😅
April 13, 20224 yr Like many have said on here we just don't play to his strengths. Criminal how many times he makes short bursts through the middle and the player in possession doesn't make the pass RLC, Kanté amongst others were guilty of this yesterday. They see the run but either don't trust themselves to make the pass or TT has told them to recycle the possession and move it out wide. Werner is the type of player that thrives on quick vertical progression of the ball, something Tuchel himself advocates yet for whatever reason we don't seem to utilise him in this way, for all of Lamps faults he did actually manage to get Timo lots of chances in his system. Players did attempt to play earlier balls. For Timo to truly thrive I think he would have to move away, yet I suspect there is a chance he can still be successful here and I'm a huge advocate for keeping the squad together that won the UCL last season to see how they do without injuries and off field politics etc. Keep the front 3 of Mount, Werner and Havertz, which seems to be a pressing machine, the chemistry is great Pulisic, CHO and Ziyech are all good rotation options and Broja can be thrown into the mix as well. Going back to my main point I think you put Werner in City, Liverpool, Bayern, PSG etc with the players they have and you would see him score 15-20 every season I'm quite confident in saying that. He would get the ball early to run into space and have time to pick his spot, confidence then grows and he starts getting form. Most importantly he would get 3+ chances a game which a player like him needs.

We just need to play faster as we have done against Southampton and Real Madrid and he’ll be a very useful player that can thrive at Chelsea. In addition, I think his mentality is also playing a huge part in his game this season. For whatever reason, before the Southampton match he did not put half the effort he’s put in the last couple of games, and that has shown as well in his impact in our matches. And he created in both games chances within the box without having to run through the defenders space.
April 13, 20224 yr Hoddle was bang onto our sparse thinking midfielders, now he can spot passes and delivered, I’d love to hear Tuchel explain the lack of early ball to Timo, after all he would of known His strengths from his Dortmund days, and knows how to play him, Werner a throwback to someone like lineker, but not as good..

It is easy to explain. We don't have the players who can play such a pass with quality. Kante - likes to run with the ball Kovacic - likes to run with the ball RLC - is slow on the ball and takes loads of touches Jorginho- can play mostly only short simple passes, occasionally hits a decent long range one. Noone of our defenders can play such a pass either. We don't have Terry, Luiz, Cesc, Lampard or ballack to play such a pass. If you want to play that way we have to go 4-3-3 with Mount in the lampard role and sign someone else to play the Ballack role. And sign a ball playing CB like Ricky or JT.

So the SOS is going out to Cesc, it should be Tuchels priority, but I can’t name many Messi type players that currently play, Gallagher and Rice are in the aforementioned class, Coutinho would be ideal…

I tend to only watch Chelsea games so rarely see other players. Maybe someone who has a good final ball and delivers really good set pieces. Like a James ward prowse.
April 13, 20224 yr His goal was absolutely brilliant, because if he shoots at the first look (like e.g. Ziyech did later on during extra time) it would get blocked by the tackle or the snake would have saved it but he had the vision to take an extra touch and then one more as another player was coming to block him... Honestly many strikers would just blast it as soon as possible in that situation but he kept going which was the right decision. There is a fine line from being in the zone and overextending and taking too much time on the ball but Werner made it look easy. Still not sure if he has a future in the club but on paper he made an assist and scored a goal so that should make Tuchel think really hard about it.
April 13, 20224 yr The last 2 games Werner has shown some genuine signs that he could still turn things around in his Chelsea career. Would be great to see him build on this

Happened with Lukaku after his start, has happen a few times for CP and Timo.

Do we believe Real will gift him 6 good to great chances to score? No way, he may get 1 and it will be finished like that header at the open goal, missed" Then during the game you were slating him again, saying: "Timo Werner... no football brain and no quality what so ever." Goal and an assist, leaving the field with us 3v0 after leaving everything out there.... ...with fans like you who needs liverpool supporters? Edited April 13, 20224 yr by nonotnowjim

Ah you want to dig me out Jim but you ignore the context of how I post around here. The extra negativy was asked for, we are a superstitious bunch and some believe my added negativity plays a part. Ask @Munkworth, he likes me having pop at Mount as it flukes in timing with him being in top form. I targeted Timo, Alonso and others for the same reason. Did you miss my post after the game where I praised all those involved for a magnificent display, where I could set aside the negativity and be proud of the whole team? Or were you too busy joining the Kante pile on? Lastly comparing me to a Liverpool fan, real classy fella.

April 13, 20224 yr I think Lukaku's arrival (which I was very much in support of) stalled Timo's progress in the team. He was doing all the right things apart from scoring last season and this season he should have evolved to that goal scorer till Lukaku came and got the undisputed starting shirt. I think our recruitment over the last few years has been a bit of flavour of the month rather than targeting a functional member of the team in its current form. If we consider the season, we could have been right up there now maybe even ahead of city. At one point we had a lead large enough to provide a buffer and insulate us from dropping below them if we lost head to head. Alas, the team dropped points carelessly.

Lukakus arrival messed a lot of things up. I posted that we lack the tools to get early balls the Timo. That is the biggest issue for him. Timo would get 20 goals a season with Cesc in his pomp here because Cesc would keep finding him. He would miss several but he would get enough for 20 I am sure of it. An unanswered question I have is why Timo has pulled out of a few challanges he was favorite for over the past few months when he did not do that at all last season. Is he carrying some sort of hamstring or groin issue that he is worried about making worse?

The Good thing about Timo is his head doesn’t drop, and he just continues playing hard, I love the look on his face when he cocks up or hits the woodwork x3, as if to say, ‘ But I’m a Teutonic child of the master race, how could this be, we are great at this game, lol

Inexcusable I was hoping he has a better reason for it than that. As he said himself himself he found it staggering how well supported he has been in spite of missing many chances. That is all down to how hard he works. If he drops commitment and desire permanently not only will that support drop but his top flight career is done too.

We really should have held our nerve and rolled into this season with that front three and it's not even hindsight on my part. Was Saints the first time we played that trio since Porto? Genuinely cannot recall a previous time this season if there was one, utterly ridiculous given how promising it looked finishing aside. If it was a young Hazard fair enough f**k the system but we tossed it to one side for Romelu Lukaku, it was soul destroying. Tuchel has done so much good he gets a pass for it in my eyes but hopefully he learned from last summer. Edited April 13, 20224 yr by Argo
