Thank you bisright 1 someone got that seriously wrong again.......watched lamptey last couple of seasons at Aldershot, why get Chillwell ? Play him or James left would of cost nothing. Though in Frank i do trust. Lamptey will be another millions buy back.   Lets hope the front wheels or any from North London get hold of him.

Lamptey and reece jamss arent left backs.

Salah cutting in from the right against Alonso will be a slaughter. Wonder if Dave would have been better as he's naturally right footed, so Salah cutting in would be onto his favoured side.

Wonder if he's not match fit.

Otherwise its a baffling decison to me.

Dkw.....hes better than James.....you have your opinion I have mine. Mount have no problem with Jorginnio i do......i have given him benefit of the doubt hes too slow. Cho needs to go and loftus Cheek along with him. Thank god we got a centre back though might as well asked JT back. Ad for the goalkeeper !!!!!!!!!???????

I hope it's a 4-3-1-2 with Kai and Timo as strikers and Mount behind them. The 4-2-2-2 isn't that good even if we did win the first game.

This is a match thread. You want to discuss some other topic, do it somehwere else.

I reckon that's

-------------------------------------Kepa

James-------------Christensen------------Zouma------------Alonso

-----------------------------------Jorginho

--------------------------Kanté---------------Kovacic

--------------Havertz---------------------------------------Mount

------------------------------------Werner

I fully expect another completely barmy game with at least five goals although admittedly with Liverpool likely to score more of them... at least it won't be boring!

When we have the worse defence in the prem........why did we get rid of Lamptey ? And hes English ?

Do hope Christianson is not playing...disaster waiting to happen. Cant head a ball either

He had 6 months left on his contract. We had no choice. We offered him a contract, he rejected it.  Gutted he left us but we cant actually be blamed on this one really. Lamps gradually was bringing him in and brought him on in a huge game against Arsenal when we were 1-0 down which was a huge vote of confidence. It is just that he knew he was against another RB who is a top talent and basically same age in Reece James and Lamptey rates himself and thought he could get first team football in the PL immediately which is happening at Brighton so fairplay to him.

I very rarely criticise Frank but i cant understand why he's selected Alonso to face Salah,

Surely Dave would be a better option even though he would be out of position, Alonso is painfully slow and cant defend to save his life.

Added to that Kepa in goal gives me nightmares, why are we taking so long to sign Mendy? After last weeks mistakes surely Willy would have been a better option.

I hope i am wrong i really do but i fear we're all in for a nervy afternoon

I like the formation, I don't like some players in it. Ideally there would have been Silva, Mendy, Chilwell, Ziyech, Pulisic... ok, they are injured, I get it. But Kepa again? Azpi on the bench? He could have easily replaced Alonso. Mount after the game he just had? Barkley earned his chance. Christensen over Tomori or Rudiger?

Against a side like Liverpool, Mounts energy and pressing will be crucial. As well as Barkley did when he came on last week, he has a habit of switching off and losing the ball cheaply. Much better to have him as a sub again and throw him on if need be.

Is RLC injured again? Kind of odd starting in the first game and not even on the bench for this one.

Not that odd when you consider how bad he was and that was Brighton - this is Liverpool!

Well, you are correct but I'm talking about the up-front 3. Is not a big deal if he loses the ball there as much as it is if he loses it as a part of our middle mini-formation

I don't understand the constant bitching some people do about Mount playing. Sure he's not exactly world class, but he's a competent player who puts a lot of effort in and contributes a lot to the team.

It's weird. We have seen tons of times over the past year how often he dictates the tempo of our game.

True, Barkley gives me nightmares when he has the ball in our own half! But I think Lamps prefers to keep things tight and then thrown on the likes of Barkley, Abraham and CHO in the second half when the game opens up.

COME ON CHELSEA - lets have a BIG Performance!!!

Barkley is fine as a super sub. He can't keep his concentration for the full 90.

As a sub, it limits his time to think so he'll always drive at goal
