October 20, 20205 yr Good result, decent performance. Early days but Mendy and Silva make a huge difference to our defensive performance. Mount left wing, it's got to stop when you have specialist players more suited to that role sitting on the bench. Chilwell, quality. Werner, looks like he's still struggling to find his feet in this team. Zouma, makes me nervous. Made more errors than anyone else today. Best of a bad bunch? Maybe. But don't think he should be a nailed on starter by any stretch of the imagination.

More than that u hope we don’t try to press high and suede advantage.. Utd looks deadly in counter attack’s but not so much in possession.. I hope we sit back a lil and ask them to make plays..

Yep it can work that way too just thinking it's about time for CFC to get break though currently thinking we will draw at Utd.

He's still world class, but you can see him struggling to recover quickly after straining to win the ball. At his age, it's only natural, and if he was to play every game, I think it would be inevitable that he would pick up a few injuries. He won't be able to play every game, which means one of the others will have to fill in. The problem is that I don't trust any of them to go a single game without making a ridiculous error that concedes a goal. None of them can seem to go a full 90 minutes without doing it. I think if that’s the case we will be in the market in January but I also have that fear, this configuration of back line and keeper can do the job that much is clear but as soon as we lose any of them we have issues. James is starting look a proper player though, I wonder if azpi could play CB in a 4? Edited October 20, 20205 yr by SFL82

James certainly has strengths though through conceding free-kicks later in games has caused us to concede two late goals this season.

October 20, 20205 yr Not too unhappy with that I have to say, I know people expect more from us at home, but to be defensively solid and keep a clean sheet against a tough team, I’m okay with that. Really though the season does hinge on Silva and Mendy being fit, without them it’s a massive worry.
October 20, 20205 yr What about developing Tomori? 4 minutes ago, Paddy said: Gotta be worth some consideration surely ? He looked good when he played and maybe he can develop into a great defender?

Agree on Zouma, makes me nervous too, best of the rest after Silva, who we need to bark instructions to Zouma all game, perhaps should’ve kept Sarr, but maybe we’ll sign in Jan.

October 20, 20205 yr Zouma at least twice showed a complete lack of situational awareness that could have resulted in goals. He was attempting, not especially successfully, to shield the ball just inside the area when he was under huge pressure, trying to get Mendy to take a huge risk and come out to claim it. Mendy just shouted at him to clear it instead. Zouma then had a go at Mendy indicating he should have been paying attention. The clearance was head and shoulders the safer solution rather than risking the keeper stranded in no mans land or risk giving away a penalty if the attacking player manages to kick the ball away before clattering into the keeper. Another time he got the ball from some quick distribusion and lost it because he spend too long with it, completely unaware of players coming in to tackle him. They got the ball and launched one of their best attacks of the game. This isn't down to Lampard, he seems to just not be able to read the game or have a grasp of his surroundings sometimes.
October 20, 20205 yr 33 minutes ago, Argo said: Don't buy that, they didn't do enough going forward to say they deserved a win, Mendy only had to make one serious save and even that wasn't too difficult. A draw was very much the right result. Football will always be subjective. I thought they deserved more from the game tonight, they had quality possession and were a unit in attack and defence. I didn’t think that we played much of any decent, cohesive football - although there were some positives - Chilwell, James, Mendy, Silva. At times I thought we were being overran and out bullied all over the pitch and had we have ‘nicked’ it tonight - there were opportunities , I would of seriously considered us to be fortunate. Had it of been a boxing match, I reckon Seville would have won it on points, but it wasn’t was it, it was a game of football , so you are 100% correct , it was indeed a draw.

To be honest, Zouma gave Tomori’s chances of selection a massive boost with his performance this evening. None of our crop of CB’s seems consistent or good enough to secure a place along side Silva and given he is unlikely to play every game , the need for a couple of solid, capable, dependable guys is critical. Frank is going to have to work with what we’ve got for now, so perm any two from Christensen, Tomori or Zouma, unless the Azpi at CB idea works ?
October 20, 20205 yr Zouma may have been poor in the previous couple of games but he is clearly our biggest aerial presence whether it's in defence or attack.

He has 2 league goals in 5 league games what more do you expect from a CB. He was unlucky his header was deflected tonight which took all the pace off however I felt Chilwell should've buried his.
October 20, 20205 yr When we play whether I'm at the game or in the pub I'm a shouty sweary old guy tonight so nonplussed I might as well have been watching the WBA-Burnley game.
