I like the idea of having Giroud up top to give us the long ball option but I can't help but think we need Pulisic's pace on the counter and there is no way Mount gets dropped.

The d-line needs to be the same. We can smother Utd. It is all about the counter attacks they can produce. I think we shouldn't try to play 70% possession. It could easily go that way.

That’s a great suggestion. I’d shift Pulisic to the left and maybe play ziyech instead of Mount. Mount really should be competing for havertz;s spot and there’s probably only one winner of that.

Yes only one winner there, 80 mill sitting on the bench, but hey the price tag not Havertz fault

I am sick of Lampard trying to force the new players to gel . Lets just stick with the Pulisic Giroud combo that got us top 4 after the international break and let the new attacking players earn their stripes.

Azpi      Silva          Zouma           Chilwell

              Jorginho     Kovacic

CHO               Mount               Pulisic

Good lineup but Kai should start, he's doing well even as a new player, Mount has been playing bad all over the place if you ask me...

Believe it or not but Manchester United are arguably the best counter attacking team in the league and we are incredibly vulnerable on the transition and that is one of the main reasons we dominated both games against them last season and were battered on the score line. I don't think Lampard should go with 4-2-3-1 because Jorginho and Kante are simply not good enough as a partnership to prevent the counter, Kante tends to press high as a result gets caught upfield & Jorginho lacks pace to cover.

I would like to see us go with 4-3-3 or alternatively match United with 3-4-3, in both scenarios I would replace Kai with either Kova (4-3-3) or alternatively Azpi (3-4-3) but I would have Kova instead of Jorginho playing alongside Kante in the midfield 2.

Or play with 3 at the back like I tried to make a lineup and let them have the ball instead and hit them hard... Kai is doing well all things considered, but Mount, that's another story... Jorginho Kovacic Havertz would be my choice in a 4-3-3.

I know what you mean about kai but I think Mount has been bad because Lampard plays him on the wings. I actually think that currently Mount is  a better number 10 for Chelsea than Havertz  because of his energy off the ball and also because Kai is still gelling with the pace of the premier league.

United are basically only good when park the bus and counter attack. Stop that and you win the game.

Oh, and don’t give away any hint of a penalty. They have had a record amount across any of the top 5 leagues.

We always outplay them and get hurt in the counter, I hope frank learns from this and we try to bring them in to us a bit, they are a team that want to counter and we are a team susceptible to counters.

We have a far better team we should be beating them yet I’m not overly confident...

I think Tuesday was a good dress rehearsal for this game. We may just want to hand the possession to them, and hit them on the counter instead. Players like Werner, Pullisic are devastating on the counter, too much possesion sometime took the effectiveness away from them. I reckon the team with less possession will win this game.

We have met Olly's Utd six times, yet won just the once. That was in the FA Cup last season.

This is a test for Frank in who he plays, he probably has made promises to players to get them to Stamford Bridge and here we are against arguably the best counter attacking side for a six pointer.

Does he play the best players for the match or the most expensive ones, will he set us up to play for a result or stay true to his attacking principles.

Put your chopper on the block Strider.

I'm going counter attacking. Play 442 with Werner and Pulisic up front. Back 4 as Seville and Mount, Kovacic, Kante and Jorghino midfield. Havertz won't be happy but he needs a kick at the moment. Bring him off the bench if we need to. Maybe Pulisic will tire. For me Havertz doesn't seem to get stuck in the tackle. I've seen him trying to cut the opposition off rather than getting close and threatening. He looks much better in the attacking role. Maybe start him ahead of Pulisic but I want us to sit back and counter. That midfield has good defensive and passing qualities. It lacks physicality and this is why I want 4.

I really fancy Werner to outpace Utds back 4.

Yeah I forgot to mention Mendy. Its like you don't even have to think about it.

That’s an interesting thought ?!!

                 Mendy

James - Silva - Zouma - Chilwell

            Kante - Kovacic

      Ziyech - Havertz - Pulisic

                  Werner

3-0 Chelsea from a hat trick of own goal by Harry Maguire who, following the game, declare he's immediately flying back to Greece stating that spending the next few years in a Greek prison is less of a punishment than continuing his playing career for Manchester United.

I certainly agree with your thoughts regarding Havertz - he has some learning to do regarding playing in the PL I feel, as do all the newbies really, with the exception of Chilwell who has just slotted right in - maybe that shouldn’t come as a surprise since he has been a PL regular for a while.

l don’t mind at all Striders selection and your suggestion of 4 across the middle.

I think the history of this kind of fixture might be lost on some of the new guys, I certainly believe, for example, that Drogba was always 20%  more pumped v the arseholes, so start with the old guard and let Havertz, Ziyech etc sit on the bench and be ready to come on for a dynamic impact at >65 minutes.

Didn't think on the Drogba thing, for me he was always pumped up for Liverpool yet I guess with Arsenal it might have had an added dimension of,

'Who is the best African player on the block?'
